Really enjoyed this place for afternoon tea! There are seatings between 10am and 1pm (reserve in advance, no walk-ins) and everything was very affordable! I was pleasantly surprised to have our party led to a cozy sideroom with nice decor and lots of seating since the entranceway leads into a tea shop. Everything was delicious and we were so full before even finishing our plates! It was also hard to get a server's attention, and I really just wanted some water. Seeing that we didn't finish even half of our food, our waitress said, "what was wrong?" I've been to a lot of afternoon tea places this year (including at the Plaza Hotel and Bergdorf Goodman in NYC), and I have to say this one is in my top 2 favorite. LOVE that they include a vegetarian option and LOVE that this option actually includes fresh and delicious tasting sandwiches. Also, sometimes I'm in the mood for hot chocolate instead of tea and LOVE that this is an alternative. The mini treats at the top were all SO delicious (I didn't even let one go to waste) and the scone was fabulous. The decor of The New Leaf is so cute and dainty. Nothing short of a five star experience! I surprised my wife with a Valentines Day brunch at New Leaf. She absolutely loved it! The 1910 Victorian home is so charming with so many nice touches in each room. The food and teas were fantastic - especially the scones and quiche. We hosted my daughter's Bridal Shower at the New Leaf Tea Room. When I spoke with the owner to book the tea, she had many rules and regulations. I had 3 Kids under 5...she charged full price ($35) for peanut butter and fluff sandwiches. That was whatever. And I need to start by saying the atmosphere is lovely and the tea and scones were yummy. Beyond that, the service was horrific. The hostess did not identify herself or come to me as a point person. I'm not sure if she was the owner I spoke with? She was incredibly rude. I really felt like I was on my own. She never explained how things would work and only said negative things to myself and my guests. When one of my guests let her know the toilet paper was low, she replied "it is under the hat". When my little flower girls were playing with the props and hats (which I didn't even know where there until the end), she told them that they were only for pictures. As I was setting up, she was telling me that nothing could remain in the tea room (we had some boxes for flowers) and to take them to my car. They told one guest that they were 3 servers down. My sister in law had to go to each table to see what kind of tea people wanted. And the food was displayed waaaay before the tea was ready. They never asked if we needed a tea fill up. The hostess never asked me if I needed anything. When I got there, I said I may need an extra place setting for the 3 year old. She replied "well we already made the food". Again, she was 3. There was no water on the tables. My guests had to get up from their tables and get their own water from a plastic cup! It's August, people need water at the table. This could really be very special if they had some kindness and customer service. Fortunately my daughter didn't catch any of this and had a lovely time. For $35pp, plus gratuity it was not cheap. While I enjoyed the food, many of my guests barely touched the sandwiches. The home made scones were the best I ever had. Again, this place as so much potential. My daughter's wedding shower was held here and based on the number of people that complained to me about what a pretentious, obnoxious snob the owner was and how difficult she was to deal with I would recommend that people choose another venue for your family events. My daughter, the bride to be couldn't eat any of the food that was all mayonnaise laden which she does not eat and had forewarned the place of that as well as almost no vegan fare for those who don't eat meat. From every account I listened to the owner treated everyone like they were beneath her snobbish standards. Maybe this person should pack up and head to England and have tea parties for the elite few that she feels she is one of. My daughter deserved better than she got. She works incredibly hard and gives so much of herself to help others supplying food, clothing and necessities to the less fortunate. Went here for tea+lunch for two. We had a good time despite some weirdness of the staff that made you feel like you were just annoying or not welcome. We were a quiet, normal couple of guests so IDK what that's about. The weirdest thing... they brew the tea badly? I've never been to a tea shop that doesn't know how to make tea. The fault was serving green/white tea in a pot so it oversteeps and gets bitter. Some black teas and almost all herbal "teas" can sit in the pot like that, but even most black teas need the leaves pulled out after 2-5 minutes, and 1-3 minutes for green. The pot needs a basket so you can pull the leaves out when its ready, or else the staff should fully make the tea and serve it without the leaves in the pot. I don't know why I'm even saying this basic stuff that anyone who's drunk a cup of tea knows. Besides that, the food was above average for South Jersey (wouldn't stand out in North Jersey). Portion was a good size. The decor/vibe is absolutely adorable. Getting a reservation is a pain because they don't answer the phone so you really need to plan a week or two in advance. I'm going to come back here because we had a good time anyway but if there was any other option in the area I wouldn't. read more

We celebrated a young lady's 6th birthday at the New Leaf and it was a totally enjoyable experience. Each adult had a pot of tea or French pressed coffee, choice of soup or salad along with a selection of finger sandwiches, delightful pastry and one of the best scones I ever tasted. There was also raspberry preserves and Devonshire cream which took the scones to a whole new level. The young ladies had a choice of heart shaped sandwiches that included a choice of peanut butter and jelly, Nutella and fluff and more. The little ladies also recited a chocolate covered strawberry and a rosebud cupcake served with a candle for the Birthday girl. The young ladies had a choice of tea or pink lemonade. Such a cute find. I was looking for a tearoom (to take my 5 year old niece for her birthday) which are getting harder and harder to find. I found New Leaf on teamap and was pleasantly surprised. Set in an old Victorian house, this place continues the Victorian theme throughout. Since it's a tearoom, it's a set menu-a pot of tea, assorted tea sandwiches, assorted miniature desserts, a fruit cup, and a scone with jam and butter for $23 a person. The kid's version ended up being the same amount of food for $14.50. I'll be honest-I love going to formal tea but normally don't like the taste of tea sandwiches. As a result these tea sandwiches were just okay to me. This tearoom also has tea hats that visitors can wear. My niece loved trying them on. For the most part the staff was very, very friendly and very nice towards my niece except when she was trying on hats. Then a staff member came over and complained about how she was touching them. The "girls" decided to have tea today. We had been told that the New Leaf was the place to go. On entering the shop we were welcomed by a wonderland of unique gifts, jewelry, china and Victorian treasures . We walked through the beautifully decorated Victorian home to our seats. Each room is set for tea with linen tablecloths, napkins, crystal, candles and china. It could not have been more festive. We were greeted by our server and ordered delicious decadent sandwiches, fruit, scones, and luscious desserts, as well as a choice of tea. Went for lunch with our ladies group. Was also my birthday. The tea menu is very interesting, ranging from regular teas, decaf teas and herbal teas. We didn't add salad or soup but they sounded yummy. When we each received our three tier lunch, we wondered was this enough food?? Six tea sandwiches, a scone with cream and jam, a chocolate covered strawberry and fresh fruit. And several pieces of to die for pastry. Several of us took home parts of our lunch. Very charming tea room and shop! We went for an early Mother's Day celebration and the food was absolutely amazing. Fresh desserts included eclairs, macaroons (we each had a different flavor: chocolate, caramel and raspberry), chocolate dipped strawberries, fresh orange slice and blackberries. Sandwiches were varied and included egg salad, cucumber, chicken salad, in addition to a spinach puff. We all thought we were going to be hungry after however, we were all very full and required take home boxes for left overs. I came here recently for a bridal shower that I helped put together. The food and tea were amazing and it's just about the cutest little tea room you can find. However, the service was just so unpleasant that I was taken back. I never ever write reviews, but I just could not believe how our party was treated. Our group consisted of 15-20 people (very small) and we only used half of the main room. We had a few light decorations such as picture frames to set on the table and some stuff for a mimosa bar. We felt as if our hostess was peering over our shoulders constantly as we set up telling us what we could or could not do. We were respectful of their rules and obliged politely. Once we were done set up, we set our extra boxes and bags (which were only a few) off in the corner of the other side of the room where they were hidden and completely out of the way. Our hostess told us to remove them and take them out to our car. I have never heard of a place making you bring all of your bags back out to your vehicle as your event is about to begin. She had kept mentioning this but never explained why. When I asked her, she had told us that it was a liability to have them laying in the corner because someone could trip. But then she moved them onto the floor within the narrow walkway to the bathroom where they were plain in sight. I did not really understand this reasoning and why it was such a fuss to move them from the hidden and undisturbed corner into plain sight where people are walking. They made us feel as if we were an inconvenience the entire time. Sometimes they would begin to help out, which was nice but we just did not get a very pleasant vibe. Also, we had a reservation from 12-3. At 2pm the staff were cleaning up the tables and taking our guests drinks and food away. I had one guest come up and ask me why her drink that she just refilled got taken away. Our guests had felt rushed out due to the staff cleaning up as if it were the last 15 minutes of the event. Once we did decide to clean up, we had plenty of mimosa left over in their glass container dispenser and our wine bottles were open but barely touched. When we had asked for the juice containers and corks to clean up the drinks and save what wasn't used, they had responded unapologetically, "Oh we threw them out, besides corks don't get reused". She said this in a dismissive tone and walked away. We did not feel they took the time to hear our concerns and work with us until I finally spoke up and showed that I was not happy with their actions. Once I did, they had a much more respectful attitude and offered solutions to help us bring home the rest of our drinks without wasting them. For such a small and simple party we were made to feel as if we were annoying them. I try to give people the benefit of the doubt thinking maybe they are just having a bad day, however my mother-in-law and I had attended the tea room earlier this year to be sure we liked it and were treated with the same disrespect. It is truly a shame because their food is excellent and the building is filled with so much charm, which ultimately sold us on having the bridal shower there. I am happy to see that some people have had the pleasure of rating this business 5 stars and enjoying their experience. I wish I could do the same. Today a dear friend and I enjoyed a delightful "tea" at the "New Leaf Tea Room" . This was Friend's first time at New Leaf, but I have attended several "showers " here as well as numerous luncheon dates over many years. On arrival, we were pleased with the charming and eclectic gift shop area, behind which a group of at least 40 ladies were already well into their lunches. I was glad the shop was doing such a brisk business, but was a little nervous that the noise from these happy diners might interfere with our gentle conversation. We were pleased to be seated in a private room between two lace - covered windows next to the antique fireplace. The table was set with rose china tea ware with our claret colored napkin artfully folded to resemble a red rose in each tea cup. (See attached photo .) The menu is of course, limited. But it's exactly what you want for "tea ". I never tire of a well done tea. We both ordered the "Queen's Tea", which comes with an additional soup (today's was Loaded Potato, with bacon, cheese & chives ) or a luscious salad (with fresh field greens, baby spinach, cranberries, & candied walnuts with crumbled goat cheese. ) My Friend ordered a pot of decaffeinated cranberry -orange tea, while I chose the Lapsang Souchong. ..my favorite. The 3 tiered food server contained fresh, well presented and deliciously tasty tea sandwiches. (Egg salad triangles, Tuna salad on black &white fingers, chicken salad with cranberries on a lovely croissant, cucumber on buttered rounds, & an amazing delicate whipped cream and walnut tidbit, & one more I've forgotten.) Then there was a wonderful, huge cranberry - orange scone served with clotted cream and raspberry jam....perfection! And finally, an orange slice, a tiny cupcake, a raspberry sour cream cookie, a luscious chocolate - covered strawberry and a sweet little cream puff. Oh my! In addition, the service was impeccable. When we jokingly said, "We may be here for hours ", hinting that we didn't need to be checked on at every turn, our server quietly slipped away our salad plates and replenished our tea, without interrupting us, and yet being available for anything we might have wanted. There's even a tiny bell you can ring if your server isn't in the room at the moment. (We certainly didn't need it.) And so, we happily enjoyed a wonderful "tea " together at the "New Leaf". I would highly recommend it to those who love tea, to those who want to catch up with old friends or new, to those who wish to teach their children or grandchildren the joy of elegant dining (or at least something besides fast food ) and to those who still remember the fine arts of conversation and friendship. We attended a 99th birthday party here and it was an unpleasant experience. The owner was rude the whole entire time and looked very annoyed that children were at the event. She even started cleaning everything up an hour and a half before the party was over and she told two guests that they couldn't eat more than two strawberries a piece. They had a variety of different desserts and sandwiches on each table but nothing was explained on what everything was. There were also apparently different types of tea at every table but we were not informed of that either. Would not recommend having a party there and quit frankly surprised they are still in business with how poorly the owner's customer service skills are. read more

Our server was fantastic and her tea recommendations were "spot on"! I had the Emerald Cream and my friend had the Valentine's Day special tea (chocolate with cherry)..both were perfect! They were very flavorful, and we even bought some to take home. The amount of food was perfect for me, but my friend could not finish her dessert. Wow. I travel to places to experience high tea and one of the best one is right here in New Jersey. The scone was large delicious, and extremely enjoyable. Together withe the jam and Devonshire cream is was a great way to start. Then we had finger sandwiches and a small quiche. We had chicken salad, egg salad, ham, artichoke and cream cheese, and another one. Quiche was a mini bacon and cherry tomato. All if tgem were delicious. Desserts included; chocolate covered strawberries, lemon cake, macaroons, and chocolate cake. What a way to end our meal. No one could eat all the food so we brought it home and enjoyed the next day too. Their tea selections were wonderful and able to accommodate regular, decaf, and organic. Disclaimer: This is my opinion only based on my experience alone. Pre-Party: The owner can be slightly stubborn on any additional ideas on how you want your party to be. It was very challenging to get her to alter what she kept saying we don't do it like that. Examples, seating arrangements, Mimosa set up, and setup time. Let's start with the seating. We had a party of 24 people. There were a total of 8 tables in the room. The owner wanted to squeeze us all to 3 tables on one side of the room. Now, this is a Bridal Tea party that we paid for the space. It took two people separately to try to get her to change the seating. The Bride had to get involved and try to convince the owner to use more tables for the guest. Finally, it was agreed to used 5 tables for guest, which left two round tables and 1 rectangle table. We used the long table for games/prizes. 1 round table for cupcake display and 1 table for champagne flutes. Second, the mimosa bar, the Bride wanted a table to be a full mimosa bar, so I purchased decanters, chalkboard, fruit bowls, and etc to be told that we had to come with our mimosas premixed and we had to use their two juice dispensers. The Bride wanted 4 flavors, basically, we wanted a variety and for guest to be able to make thier own fresh mimosa. The owner kept saying that's how people do it and that's how we do it. It took some convincing to be able to do it the way the Bride wanted. It was very frustrating purchasing things and paying for a venue to have a personalized party just to be faced with challenges. Also, party started at 1pm. We were only allow to start setting up at 12:30pm. 30mins....How frustrating!! Now lets talk about post party. The party was awesome. The setup was beautiful. The food was great and fresh. The servers were awesome, friendly, and very helpful. The owner was not there so I can't fairly say if day of event would she have been more accommodating without any challenges. Overall, the event was a success. I would recommend having your event there. I would just recommend asking all your questions concerning the details and the ideas you have for your special event. It can be a little annoying and frustrating 2 weeks prior to be told no you can't do it like that. Luckily, at the end the owner did agree for us to do it how we wanted it, but it took convincing to do so, which added a layer of stress prior to party. Overall, I will still recommend. read more

Where do I begin? Every year a group of my girlfriends go out to celebrate Christmas. I initiated the invite this year and our friend, Susan, suggested this tea house as her daughter's bridal shower was held here. I made reservations for five. The night before we were to leave for our Christmas luncheon one of our gals had to back out. We drove 45 minutes to get there and laughed the entire trip. Once we entered the tea house the owner looked almost annoyed by our jolliness. I announced that we were here and that our reservation is now for four and not five. Her demeanor got even worse and she asked me if I called to cancel and I said to her I was not cancelling. She said I was cancelling for one. I explained that I did not feel the need to call and change my reservation from five to four. She told me that was their policy and that they prepared their food in advance. I apologized to her and told her I was not given this information when I called to make that reservation and it is not listed on their website. We were all uncomfortable at this point. I felt chastised. I really just wanted to walk out but I did not want to ruin the day for my friends. Once seated she made a point to come to our table and I thought maybe she would apologize but she just repeated the same thing again as if we were children. I felt like she was going to slap my fingers at this point. I was absolutely fuming now. The waitress that took care of us was nice. The food was good. The tea house overall was nice. However, I will never go back to this tea house again as I feel this owner treated us, her customers, horribly. I did not want to write this review as I believe if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all but for some reason I cannot let this one go. I hope she reads this and doesn't treat future customers this way and if that's her "policy" it should be listed on the website and told to customers when they call to make reservations. read more

Owner was unnecessarily rude when we sat down as our party was not really complaining anything (we simply asked if it was possible to switch a table and it was not a big deal to us that we couldn't but we were approached by her in a rude tone as to why we couldn't and that the alternative was for them to refuse our reservation- that is rude and not how you speak to customers who are not making an issue of it.) Our server was wonderful and so nice and pleasant that it made up for the bad taste left in our mouth by the previous woman. The food and tea were great and we all loved the atmosphere. Here's the T, sis. THIS PLACE IS THE WORST!! Rude and judgmental staff. Disregard for food needs. Not worth the drive, price or effort. While making the reservation I informed them of my nut allergy and another persons vegan needs. When we walked in I reminded them again before being seated. I reminded them again when I ordered as well. The food got there, wasn't explained to us. Kind of dropped in front of us and shoved in our face. My scone came with a noticeable amount of nuts, I thought it was a joke. I called over the rude server and told them and they got me two scones out of the freezer that were just threw in the microwave to thaw. Another person with me asked for extra clotted cream and they were met with a judgement glare. The vegan was given a house salad from a bag and a bowl of fruit. They knew the vegan and the person with an allergy were coming for two weeks. The staff seemed to hate us since they laid eyes on us. And they felt free to express that. I'm almost thankful of the comical amount of nuts in my scone bc I didn't have to bite into it and find out the hard way. This trip was with my two sister and mother. We paid for our meal. When my 23 old year sister went to pay they were blown away that she was paying and not our mother. Pretty sure that's called ageism. Will never go back to this place. Even if you paid me. Scones are great and one of the better tasting tea rooms in south jersey but service is rude and unpleasant. I had my bridal shower here 3 years ago and try to go back at least 1-2 times a year since then and the service has just gone downhill. No smiles, no pleasantries just a hurry up and leave attitude. i booked this event for our semi annual ladies get together what a poor choice. First, my friend's sister in law's daughter got ill in the night and was vomiting and so they could not attend and she said our policy is 24 hours notice or you pay. how can you give 24 hours notice if you get sick in the middle of the night. Then, we were seated and my friend's daughter, who is 18 was 20 minutes late but we had all of our sandwiches and were seated already When she went to choose a hat to wear the owner said no you were twenty minutes late you go be seated. She was so rude. Also, the soup was not hot and tasted like warmed spaghetti sauce from a jar. Definitely not worth the extra $5.00. The owner is not very friendly and sometimes quite rude. Our servers were great no problem with them. I would recommend another venue for tea as there are many other places like the talking teacup in chalfont pa or teaberry's tea room in flemington nj. The food was amazing. The scones were "melt in your mouth" good. The portions are a perfect size and a good tea selection too.

Under new management. Iffy service, some hits and some very big misses on the menu. Under no circumstances order the rice gnocchi--they're sticky, hard and tasteless. The pork sauce is good, but they should serve it over polenta or potato gnocchi. The service is very hit or miss. And that tent! Yikes. Bring back the patio and umbrellas please! All in all, a disappointment; the old New Leaf was fine, but not great, and I had hopes this would be an improvement. I'm afraid it isn't. read more
