We just closed on our first house last week, and I feel SO FORTUNATE to have found Maureen!! She is a mastermind of the mortgage lending process! I don't think I've ever met someone who is so hardworking with such high standards. Even better, Maureen upholds the same high standards for every one else involved in the lending process (escrow company, lenders, realtors, etc.) and she is constantly 2 steps ahead and prepared for anything, with a back up plan "just in case" to ensure everything goes through seamlessly. As a first time homebuyer initially unfamiliar with the process, I now know I threw a couple curve balls and Maureen didn't even bat an eye. As if all that wasn't enough, I also had no idea where to start when looking for a good realtor. Maureen suggested a few she has worked with in the past that she thought were really good, and she did not disappoint. I ended up choosing Melissa Tucci as my realtor, who was just as amazing as Maureen, and the two of them working together turned into an unstoppable powerhouse that could move mountains and get a deal done! If you're looking for a mortgage broker who will take care of you like family and go above and beyond, look no further. You will not be disappointed!

A Dream Realized in 18 Days - Thanks to Maureen Martin…read more Words can't fully express the gratitude I have for Maureen Martin of Homeplus Mortgage. From the moment we began our home-buying journey, Maureen showed herself to be an absolute powerhouse--a strong, focused businesswoman who brings unmatched professionalism, compassion, and commitment to everything she does. Maureen isn't just about numbers and paperwork--she's client-centric to her core. Her dedication, responsiveness, and fierce determination made us feel supported every step of the way. When I finally met her in person, I immediately felt her radiant energy and warmth. Her aura and spirit are something truly rare--she's one of the most special, genuine people I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. Thanks to her tireless efforts, we went from placing an offer to holding the keys to our new home in just 18 days. That kind of turnaround is almost unheard of, but Maureen made it happen. We are forever indebted to her for not just helping us close on a house, but for helping us secure our dream. If you're looking for a lender who is not only masterful at what she does but also deeply human in how she does it, look no further. Maureen Martin is a godsend.

First, he helped us find and buy our very first townhome, and six years later, he guided us to our dream primary residence. What makes Mike truly exceptional is not just his depth of knowledge in real estate, but also his expertise as a lender. He took the time to ensure we understood every aspect of our loan--not just the numbers, but the strategy behind choosing the right terms for our long-term goals. Beyond that, he helped us think outside the typical inspection process, connecting us with specialists so we had a complete and well-rounded understanding of the home before making such a big decision. Mike is remarkably patient, always available (even for early-morning calls or late-night questions), and his approach is refreshingly thorough and considerate. He doesn't just want to close a deal--he genuinely cares that his clients make smart, well-informed choices. If you're looking for someone who is as knowledgeable as they come and has an unmatched commitment to your best interests, Mike is as patient, caring, and knowledgeable as they come.

And this branch…read morespecifically has always treated me with respect, I have noticed their staff changes quite frequently, but nonetheless the customer service has always been great, until TODAY. I always come and do my usual business at this location, but I had this lady employee (whom I've never seen at this branch) who had an ugly attitude I'm not sure if she was having a bad day. I got her and told her to "have a nice day" because I'm not sure why I was treated with so much disrespect from her, she wasn't even the one helping me with my transaction, Helen (the new employee who is always great) was. However, Helen had a question/clarification in regards to my transaction and she went to her coworker for some assistance. This lady, her is DEVIN, comes up explaining that I can't do my transaction because xyz ( I won't get into detail) but she continued on to say that they aren't liable especially since they informed me about a policy. I COMPLETELY understand the policy. I have been a Navy Federal member for 6+ years now, you would think I would understand protocols and policies. She was just very nasty going back and forth with me about stating I couldn't do such transaction even I've always done it and there were no issues. I am disgusted and disappointed in this branch. It's obvious she needs to work on her customer service skills. And for me to write such a detailed complaint, this truly needs more attention. Veterans and families deserve to be treated with respect, isn't that Navy Federal's motto anyways???

Throughout that entire time, she has consistently been incredibly helpful, responsive, and generous with her time. She always answers my calls, takes the time to thoroughly explain the home buying process, and breaks down everything I need to understand so I feel confident moving forward. She is constantly running numbers and making sure I understand my options so I feel comfortable with every step. What really stands out is her enthusiasm and encouragement--she genuinely loves what she does and is always cheering me on, reminding me that I can do it. When I finally got to the point of putting in an offer on a home, she supported me through every step of the process with patience and care. I highly recommend Cynthia to anyone looking for a knowledgeable, supportive, and dedicated loan officer.

If the sideways profile picture doesn't tell you everything you need to know about GEM, I'll tell…read moreyou my experience with Neil and Cynthia. I should have known from the very first time I spoke with Neil to take my business elsewhere...talking about rate changes every second and how it just changed while we were talking...you know what else changed? His commission...which changed +$2,000 in a matter of minutes. But they kept saying no problem, your loan will be approved and we can close in 2 weeks. Nope. They also say they're a direct lender. Nope. We sent in all the documents they requested immediately. From there we mostly dealt with Cynthia...who at best is disorganized...personally I think she's incompetent but that's just my opinion. We had to send her the same documents over and over and over. And she doesn't know how 401k loans/withdraws work. She thinks employers handle loans/withdraws from 401K's differently when in fact all 401K plan guidelines are regulated by the IRS and cannot be changed by employers. Someone who handles mortgage loans and assets daily should be aware of this. This was another red flag. They brokered our loan to Chase. We were promised an answer on final approval a week late on a Tuesday, then a Thursday, then a Friday...then Monday we were GUARANTEED an answer by the end of the day...by 4pm, all of a sudden there was an emergency and someone had to be rushed to the hospital. One hell of a coincidence right? We were told they wouldn't be checking email or taking calls (Neil did send an email later, allegedly from the hospital, which seemed weird) but we would have an answer on Tuesday...We didn't get it until late Wednesday. Through this entire time, they would ignore us when we requested updates or act annoyed when we called. Rather than put themselves in our shoes, knowing we were about to lose the house and knowing that we already put over $1000 into appraisals and inspections, they just blew us off. What happened to the pleasant sales guy we spoke to at the beginning of the process? Oh, that's right, he had us where he wanted because we were already a week into the process and couldn't switch that late in the game. We never did get the appraisal fee back like we were promised. Do I recommend anyone use GEM for their mortgage needs? Nope.
