I've taken my daughter to plenty of big zoos in the US: San Francisco, Oakland, and Oregon, to name a few. But none of those did I willingly want to go back to. Paignton Zoo is different. It's so pretty here, if I lived nearby, I'd want to revisit often. The setting is beautiful. We were lucky enough to get to feed Duchess the elephant and two of the giraffes (Tonda and Yoda) while we were there. Quite an experience for my daughter and one I'm sure she'll remember for quite some time. What memories are made for.

In order to provide further attractions for visitors, other animals and birds are kept within the 22 acre grounds: Muntjac and Fallow Deer, Scottish Wildcats, Wallabies + various species of Owl, Birds of Prey, Geese and Ducks. Pheasants, Guinea Fowl and Peacocks also wander keep an eye on your cake if eating at the Tea Room. Best to visit around the middle of the day for the excellent Otter and Owl talks given by the staff see website for precise times. The otters are most entertaining when they are fed and it is well worthwhile following the keeper and his bucket of fish around the various pens these animals have very healthy appetites! The wallabies and the deer wander around the woodlands but, since they are used to human visitors, it is possible to get fairly close without disturbing them. Have some concerns about some of the birds and animals being kept in cages but the underlying cause is worthy and I understand that they have plans to provide the birds of prey with more exercise (outside their cages) in future.

We live nearby to twycross but much prefer this zoo. It's inexpensive and a far nicer place to walk…read morearound. Twycross has a huge amount of monkeys but they are mostly in little cages - at Newquay they've got their monkeys on a little open air island in a pond. There is no cage at all and they are contained by the water. It's this kind of feeling you get all round the zoo where they've obviously thought about the happiness of the animals as well as the paying public. You get very close to the animals, have Chipmunks crossing over your head in tubes. There are also play areas and places to have picnics. When we went I could have my hand stamped and nip back to the car to get my picnic stuff. They also have animal visits where they take smaller animals and reptiles round to schools and holiday parks. A really great place with caring staff.

The aquarium in Fowey is quite small and only open during the Summer months. It is below the Fowey…read moretown hall. It is only one room which is not very big but it is quite good for families to visit. In the centre there is a tank which you can reach into and touch the sea life, such as crabs. This is good although you have to be careful not to hurt the animals. Around the outside of the room there are more tanks. After about 30 minutes you run out of things to see in the aquarium, but the entrance fee was not very high so it was worth seeing.

We go every year and would recommend it to anyone. Plus, hedghehogs, piggie races and lovely animals to feed. Did go with an 8 year old and 7 year old, which led to one being too tall to do something he wanted (pony ride) and the other been too small (go karts) so that may be worth considering and researching but it's a wonderful spot and, as I say, we go every year!

Springfields fun park is a brilliant place for the family, there is lots to do, indoor play areas,…read moretrampoline area, pony rides, feeding the fish, rowing boats and more. The fish are so tame they even follow the rowing boats if you keep feeding them. Very well priced and we chose the £1 offer where you can return each day for the next 7 days just by paying a pound on your way out of the park. Very friendly staff and would go again. Excellent

Springfields is a fantastic place to take the kids for a day…read more There's so much to keep them occupied trampolines outside, a chance to pet and feed the small animals, pony rides, rowing boats to take out on their small lake, mini diggers for the kids to play with in the sandpit and lots of other fun activities! They also have a cafe and a lovely little shop to buy some springfields branded gifts in to take home! It really does make for a fun day out with the kids, and actually can be made to last all day without them getting bored, so well worth the entrance fee. Highly recommended!!!
