Have to say I agree with polobint, a very poor day out and as for sanctuary well we didn't see much…read moreevidence of the monkeys maybe they'd all been flown back to the wild. We did like the bats but that's about it. We were only there about an hour so we felt we'd wasted the entry fee, also it's got restricted disabled access which isn't great if you're in a wheelchair. Carer did get in free however, thankfully.

However, not much of a Monkey Sanctuary - I think they only have 3 Monkeys there now. Not much of a day out I am afraid. I was told by someone who works there that one of the Monkeys likes to smoke!!!! I would have liked to have seen that lol! This is totally different to other Animal Parks etc which I have visited with my daughter. She was bored within a few minutes and wanted to go home as she could not see any of the monkeys. There is plenty of room and lots of trees for them to hang about in, I was upset not to catch sight of one when we visited this summer holidays! The opening times are from 11.30 - 4.00pm I believe, yet (as this is cornwall) they do not stick to these times. Best call in advance to make sure it is open else it is a long drive back to civilization!!!! I must praise the factual learning information though, extremely informative and very fasinating to read. I would however, give this a miss and recommend checking out Porfell Animal Farm instead if you are looking for an all day outing with the kids.

I still have a passion for sea life which made this spot a great start to a special day. I believe it was about £8 to enter but your ticket is valid for 12 months which is awesome. What I really enjoyed about my visit is how this place focused on education and Marine conservation. It's quite small with two floors but they pack the walls with info boards next to the lobsters. There was also a great video they showed upstairs about the lobster hatchery and lobsters in general. The upstairs room aside from the video was a great area for kiddos as well! I really enjoyed hearing the hatchery is increasing the lobster population by keeping the juveniles safe until releasing them to the wild.

It's not expensive to go in - £8 an adult buys you a year entry. So good so far but I suspect many like us are only there on holiday so unlikely to return within a year. But there's not a lot to see or do and if you don't get someone to guide you to what you are seeing it's likely you'll not stay very long, and be a tad annoyed at the cost/stay ratio. We had the advantage of a very knowledgeable chap who certainly answered all my questions and revealed lots of fascinating facts about these blue blooded creatures with complex life cycles who rely on urine for survival and procreation so it's vitally important. Who knew? We saw real small lobsters, born a few days earlier, that were remarkably tiny, we saw them roll in the water eating each other - survival of the fittest Darwinian theory right before us - and some old timers. We saw right and left handed lobsters, those with two crusher claws rather than one crusher and one cutter. As I said our guide was a wealth of knowledge and he even persuaded me to buy a lobster tea towel which he thrust in my hands. I just loved the sales pitch and the brass neck. I very much doubt though that anyone would still be there after 45 minutes unless there's a thunderstorm outside, even with a guide. As we left post £25 paid over we reflected that we were subsiding fisher folk who go catch lobsters, sell them locally to very wealthy restauranteurs who pay minimum wages and I have the pleasure of handing over £56 for a cooked one in a town with a food bank. It's a funny old world and a visit I doubt I'd ever repeat.

Most notably, they advertise penguins on their brochure as a main attraction which one of our party was very much looking forward too and only came for the penguins but they all died a while ago. The talks are informative. A good day out for the family still and enough to take up your whole day. Petting zoo is fun for all ages.

Great value tickets, nice little gift shop on the way out. They have such a wide range of animals for a fairly small space, all with wonderfully large enclosures, and all naturally managed - all the enclosures are as close as possible to their natural habitat, so the animals are happier and in better health. This can mean that they're hard to spot because they can be hiding in plant growth, but when you do see them they're so animated and fun to watch. Informative, educational and amusing talks are given by the keepers on the animals, there are various encounter sessions during the day where you get to hold some of the smaller animals, and reptiles and spiders and so on. The kids had a wonderful time, as did we, though we were surprised at how tired we were when we got back to the car - it's a deceptive space! Though on quite a small plot for a zoo, the paths and enclosures are arranged so that you get the impression you're walking round a much bigger place.
