In order to provide further attractions for visitors, other animals and birds are kept within the 22 acre grounds: Muntjac and Fallow Deer, Scottish Wildcats, Wallabies + various species of Owl, Birds of Prey, Geese and Ducks. Pheasants, Guinea Fowl and Peacocks also wander keep an eye on your cake if eating at the Tea Room. Best to visit around the middle of the day for the excellent Otter and Owl talks given by the staff see website for precise times. The otters are most entertaining when they are fed and it is well worthwhile following the keeper and his bucket of fish around the various pens these animals have very healthy appetites! The wallabies and the deer wander around the woodlands but, since they are used to human visitors, it is possible to get fairly close without disturbing them. Have some concerns about some of the birds and animals being kept in cages but the underlying cause is worthy and I understand that they have plans to provide the birds of prey with more exercise (outside their cages) in future.

Did go with an 8 year old and 7 year old, which led to one being too tall to do something he wanted (pony ride) and the other been too small (go karts) so that may be worth considering and researching but it's a wonderful spot and, as I say, we go every year!

They also have a cafe and a lovely little shop to buy some springfields branded gifts in to take home! It really does make for a fun day out with the kids, and actually can be made to last all day without them getting bored, so well worth the entrance fee. Highly recommended!!!

However, not much of a Monkey Sanctuary - I think they only have 3 Monkeys there now. Not much of a day out I am afraid. I was told by someone who works there that one of the Monkeys likes to smoke!!!! I would have liked to have seen that lol! This is totally different to other Animal Parks etc which I have visited with my daughter. She was bored within a few minutes and wanted to go home as she could not see any of the monkeys. There is plenty of room and lots of trees for them to hang about in, I was upset not to catch sight of one when we visited this summer holidays! The opening times are from 11.30 - 4.00pm I believe, yet (as this is cornwall) they do not stick to these times. Best call in advance to make sure it is open else it is a long drive back to civilization!!!! I must praise the factual learning information though, extremely informative and very fasinating to read. I would however, give this a miss and recommend checking out Porfell Animal Farm instead if you are looking for an all day outing with the kids.

Most notably, they advertise penguins on their brochure as a main attraction which one of our party was very much looking forward too and only came for the penguins but they all died a while ago. The talks are informative. A good day out for the family still and enough to take up your whole day. Petting zoo is fun for all ages.

We visited this zoo while on holiday at the end of the season, and had such a good day! The only…read moredownside which I'll mention now is the cafe seemed unable to cope with the lunchtime rush, and by 1pm had no sandwiches left and a half hour wait on hot meals! Great value tickets, nice little gift shop on the way out. They have such a wide range of animals for a fairly small space, all with wonderfully large enclosures, and all naturally managed - all the enclosures are as close as possible to their natural habitat, so the animals are happier and in better health. This can mean that they're hard to spot because they can be hiding in plant growth, but when you do see them they're so animated and fun to watch. Informative, educational and amusing talks are given by the keepers on the animals, there are various encounter sessions during the day where you get to hold some of the smaller animals, and reptiles and spiders and so on. The kids had a wonderful time, as did we, though we were surprised at how tired we were when we got back to the car - it's a deceptive space! Though on quite a small plot for a zoo, the paths and enclosures are arranged so that you get the impression you're walking round a much bigger place.

As long as the extra cash goes towards conservation then I'm content. Worth making sure you attend the feeding shows. You can actually get chance to feed, and even meet, the pengiuns yourself. The otters mew like cats when they are expecting their meal and are really cute until you see that the food they are tearing apart is little yellow chicks (the same could probably be said for cats in general). The highlight though has to be the flying show where the female birdkeepers let some of the birds out and encourage the birds to fly (and in one case) run between them (around the park visitors), by offering some food. There is even a bird that is trained to land on people, remove pound coins and drop it in a charity box. Very entertaining and the girls sure know how to handle a Cockatoo. This show made completely forget (until now) how cute the chipmunks were that we saw elsewhere in the park.
