The beds are comfortable and the place is kept immaculate. You really get a feel for how it much have been in the 1800s in this home. It has a rich history including the Civil War that Mary will tell you stories about. Furthermore, it's remote, so you won't hear road noise and in the wintertime you can see the Osage River. It's just a wonderful place. Mary is just a wonderful person and she made our wedding just fabulous even when the caterer fell flat on their face. She set everything up when Hy Vee was supposed too. We had a small wedding and stayed at the B&B for 4 days in which Mary just make you feel at home the whole time. There is plenty of parking for a large wedding and it's perfect for that quaint wedding that we had too. I just can't say enough about The Colonel Bolton Home. I'll end by saying that you can use this place as a B&B, Corporate Event, Wedding, or any other larger event as she has a large facility out back. I will guarantee that you will not be disappointed.

The bathrooms are as original as they can make them, while addressing the need to be ADA compliant, and updated where necessary, and the furnishings are "period" from the 1950's or earlier. Please remember, this is a retro motel. There are no TV's, there is no pool, the is no "free breakfast". What you will get is a safe, clean comfortable room and a good night's sleep just like grandma and grandpa when they were traveling across country in their DeSoto. The 1930's-40's vintage sign is a work in progress, so despite what it says, there is no Color TV, there is however one concession they have allowed for; there is Wi-Fi.

We also ran out of food even though we had 8 people that we paid for not that didn't show up and they blamed it on our guests for "over eating". When we called to address the issues, we were told that the owner couldn't find the sheet that he wrote our menu selections on.. not sure why he didn't call or message us to confirm ahead of time if there was any confusion. We were given a partial refund after the fact but that did not make up for the several mishaps that couldn't be undone at our wedding.

It seemed pretty safe and we had an easy check-in and check-out. The bathroom seemed clean, the shower was hot and they provide a very clean mini fridge and microwave in the room. I've definitely stayed in better hotels, but this met my basic needs. This motel isn't for the squeamish, but if you're looking for an alternative to showering in a truck stop and sleeping in your car, this is great. Pluses: Cheap, safe, close to 24-hour sonic. Beds are comfy enough. Lots of TV channels. No bedbugs (I checked). Negatives: Loud train horn very close by woke me up multiple times a night. Found a half-empty bag of popcorn in the nightstand, a men's shirt in the closet and a filthy towel on the floor (which begs the question - if they didn't notice that stuff, did they even bother to change the sheets?) Pillows felt like I was laying on a dense pile of folded sheets. The plumbing and electrical are obviously DIY - our toilet wobbled in an unsettling way when I sat on it and a gross bubbly mucous filled the toilet from the tank. The TV had a warped screen and only showed gray-scale and some shades of red.
