We stumbled upon Pj's Mexican Kitchen by accident as we were starving before heading out to…read moreEastland for a movie. Pj's is located off to the left of Maroondah Highway before you hit Eastlink and there is some parking out the front of the restaurant. With both indoor and outdoor seating available, Pj's was packed Saturday night but we managed to snag a table at the back. The servers seemed a little flustered as there were quite a few larger parties ordering and we were repeatedly asked if we would like to order when we already had but hey I'd rather be asked than left there hungry. A complimentary teeny tiny bowl of corn chips kicked off our night and we ordered a strawberry milkshake and a glass of sangria to quench our thirst during the wait for food. Fish taco- squeeze the lemon onto the crispy fish and we have a winner. Beef taco-best taco out of the 3 as it was juicy and the beef was very tender. Chicken taco- a bit dry but I drenched it with chilli sauce yum! Combination special enchilada -Spinach and potato mixed Ice cream nacho - dusted with cinnamon sugar, the vanilla ice-cream was drizzled with honey and matched with a side of tia maria. This wasn't quite what I expected, it was more bland as I imagined that the "nachos" would be more like cinnamon toast crunch pieces. We did finish the whole thing but it got a bit too sweet towards the end. I'm glad we made an emergency food stop and stopped here as I enjoyed it. I like how you can choose a soft tortilla or hard taco shell and although not exactly like the street tacos in Mexico, this was much better than some of the taco's i've had in Australia that are drenched in sour cream and overdone.

As a single business traveler I often find it difficult if not a little intimidating to go to…read morerestaurants alone resulting in many nights of room service and two minute noodles. But after visiting Amor Mexico on a particularly lonely night, I am very happy to report that the warm and welcoming staff (not to mention the yummy food and cosy atmosphere) prompted a return visit a week later. And although the staff were different, the way they made me feel genuinely welcome and better still, appreciated for my choice to dine with them, was exactly the same as the first time. The restaurant was quite busy the first night and apart from the volume of the two large tables celebrating birthdays (they weren't that loud - I'm just a grumpy old man!) the service was equally as wonderful as that of the second occasion when there were only 4 or 5 tables of two dining. I ordered different drinks and meals each time and everything was delicious and reasonably generous in size adding good value for money to the list of positives of this place. If you or you and your friends/family are ever in Forest Hill - or within 20kms of Forest Hill - and feel like some yummy Mexican and great hospitality, drop in to Amor Mexico. PS. I talked with the owner on my second visit and was informed it has been a Mexican restaurant for 30 years and hasn't changed hands on the last 15 - which I guess is testimony to my very positive review.

Great service, nachos with beef are our family favourite. Amy the owner is very friendly and always…read moresmiling

The full Faulty Towers experience! We came here on Saturday…read morenight for a double birthday celebration for a group of 17. Never ever again. Where should we start ...... - Service was painfully painfully slow overall, there was an extreme lack of staff for the number of customers. The staff clearly aren't having fun at all. They are run off their feet. - The food service was inaccurate, and the waitresses were quite argumentative. They messed up a few meals, and seemingly blamed us. - We brought a birthday cake made by my wife. During our meal we were shocked to see it being delivered, all candles blazing, to another table. My wife had to rush over, and chase the waitress to prevent her work being delivered to that table. The waitress was quite shocked, but did not apologise. - The staff offered drinks once, and once only. To get another drink, you had to ask, and then it was very slow. In one case we were charged for a beer that never arrived. - We were never offered coffee with the (finally correct) cake. - I had to ask for cutlery twice, and then finally gave up, and had to ask for it at the bar. - The staff never said thank-you when we left. - A 10 year old in our group said "Perhaps we should go somewhere else next time". Yes, yes would should. - On a positive note, the food that did arrive was good. With more staff, and more attentive staff, the experience could be quite good. And if they continued to offer drinks throughout the meal, we probably would have spent 50% more. And I hear that this place can be quite good during the week, but I'm giving it a wide berth. Forever.

I can't remember the last time I've handed out a 5 Star review…read more But I havnt really got a bad word to say. The food and Drink were excellent and the atmosphere was relaxing and pleasant. Nothing went wrong. It was a beuitiful place for pre Drinks before a night out. It was even good enough that I would consider it for a birthday. I loved dipping my quesadillas into the sour cream and my margarita felt full on and helped me relax. 5 stars for Pacos Tacos and they deserved it, thank you for starting my night out so well. I'll be coming back sometime.

Although the service here was brilliant and our table was looked after very well, I must say I was…read moredisappointed with the taste of the food. Although coriander is a key component in many Mexican dishes, my main meal tasted of nothing more. I ordered a Concane taco to begin, and it's size was okay for the price however it tasted very bland; the meat seemed to lack any good seasoning. For my mains, I ordered the 'Pacos Nachos' - and wasn't impressed. It tasted of nothing more than coriander and the Fetta Cheese, although creamy, was tasteless. There is no doubt that all the ingredients were very fresh, but this doesn't overwrite the fact that the flavours just weren't there. The meals were incredibly quick to come out of the kitchen but this is not a suprise considering that most of the dishes didn't require on the spot cooking but rather a simple 'stack and go' line in the kitchen. Which is useful If you are on the run and need a quick bite. As for the atmosphere, I felt like I was sitting in a children's playground. The colours just did not work for me, and although bright colours open up the space, the use of yellow and pink just made the restaurant feel childish. Overall, I think that, with some focus on getting flavour ratios right, the meals here could be very enjoyable. I can live with the decor.
