First off, if you're expecting anything close to a traditional event center or motel/hotel…read moreexperience you're probably going to be disappointed. This is in Metamora. Have you been to Metamora? This practically IS Metamora. It's funky, comfortable, casual, low with amenities, and high with hospitality. It's not for everyone. Heck, it's probably not for most. But, for those who click with it this is an awesome way to experience rural Indiana. Catrina, or "Cat," is the owner. She's practically the definition of good people. She's a great host, though be aware she does not live on-site. She's here during events, of course, and she'll host you in. You'll get her homemade breakfast in the morning (included with stays, though not menu-based - she makes a meal). However, once she's gone you may very well be alone here. If that freaks you out, well, be aware. Depending on what's going on, The Cat & The Fiddle can be a B&B, a gift shop, an eatery, or an all-out event center. It's not a huge place, though you're always a bit surprised with the crowd that gathers for music. It holds more than you'd expect, though it's fair to say they're packed in. The rooms are basic. They are comfortable but no frills. I kind of assume there's a phone here, though I've never seen one. They've historically not had wifi, though I do know Metamora just got a major wifi upgrade so that may have changed depending upon your network. In terms of accessibility, all of Metamora is pretty hit-and-miss. This is a historic river town with nearly all the buildings being historic. You can probably get into the event center itself, though staying (with most if not all rooms upstairs) would be a no go. I'm a wheelchair user and I've definitely been into the downstairs area, though it definitely involves some maneuvering. This really is closer to a retreat or a casual B&B than anything. The music typically leans toward folk/Americana or "old timey." Occasionally, you may see a small comedy show come through. There are definitely not events every weekend, so if you're thinking of coming here and/or thinking of staying here you definitely want to contact prior to the trip. Do NOT assume a room will be available. Be aware, as one reviewer noted, that Metamora is a very small town with only 207 residents. After around 6pm or so, the town pretty much shuts down unless there's a concert, special weekend, or other event. There's the nearby Whitewater trail and historic site, but those skittish about being alone in the country should take note (that said, it's a VERY small town and there are actually other residents). You are pretty close to Brookville here, as well. While accessibility is a concern (thus, I would never stay here), this is a beautiful little place run by Cat, a lifelong Metamora resident who brings hospitality to life.

Five years later we are still going and staying with her. We absolutely can not wait each year to go stay at the cozy, adorable inviting inn where she treats you like family and each morning prepares a delicious homecook breakfast! I truly get to relax and rejuvenate the entire weekend! Catrina's spirit and personality just makes you feel loved and uplifting! If you are looking for a truly unique and inviting hidden gem then I highly recommend you book a weekend at the cat and the fiddle and you'll be booking again and again I promise! As a guest, how am I to be comfortable in their establishment. I made a reservation there before the Delta variant was rampant in their area. I am a cancer patient and immunosuppressed. My doctor recommended I do not go. Jim and Jennifer refused to refund my deposit. Our crafting group has been meeting there biannually for 16 years and we have NEVER cancelled booking. Despite that, Jim and Jennifer have a strict cancellation policy. Gone are the days when one or two members of our group could reserve a booking at $20 apiece. Now it's $60 and everybody in the group has to pay in advance. Our group used to feel special when Jim and Leacarol ran the inn. Now it's just business. Frosty business. The rates have skyrocketed and guests are no longer welcome to stay later in the afternoon on Sunday. Also, the breakfasts are uninspired. If you can find another place to stay, do so. Apparently they are booked into 2022 anyway and don't appreciate their loyal patrons.

I'm a city girl, and I was wary of going to an unfamiliar and very rural area, but as soon as I stepped foot into the bed & breakfast, I felt immediately at home. The first night I got there, it was pouring rain and I couldn't see well. I parked in front of the house and Tari kindly told me I could leave the car there until the morning and she showed me around and made me feel immediately at ease. Tari and Scott actually live off of a little road towards the back of the house, but they are within walking distance of the house and always accessible by phone if you need anything. The house is absolutely stunning and comforting, and it has all the amenities you could possibly need. Tari and Scott take great care of the house. It was always in immaculate condition. The furniture and fixtures are beautiful, and there is a fully stocked kitchen (you can take any of the food for the day free of charge--granola bars, crackers, fruit, deli meats, cheese, baked banana bread, bagels, tea, coffee, juice, soda, bottled water, wine, and more!). I practically ate an entire banana bread loaf that Tari baked during my stay because it was so delicious, and of course Tari and Scott will serve you a yummy breakfast every morning upon request. I had some of the best night's sleep in the room I stayed in too. Each room has its own thermostat and there was a comfy down blanket that I slept with every night for the three nights I was there. My drive to Miami U. each morning was less than 5 minutes, and every time I left the conference, I was excited to go back to the house! Tari and Scott are very kind and personable. They truly care about their guests' comfort and happiness. I highly recommend staying here over a hotel. The rates are comparable, and you get so much more from staying here. If I ever find myself in Oxford again, I will for sure stay here again.
