So when I arrived, I had great expectations for the Snooty fox Sunday roast, unfortunately this meal looked better than it tasted. I had 'the full Biffter', a Sunday lunch with a slice of everything. I found the meat to be a bit bland but plentiful although extremely fatty. It would have been nice to have more veg to balance it out (you only get one roast potato and one Yorkshire pudding to accompany a small square of cauliflower cheese and greens). Customer service on this day was also a little bit of a let down. Our server was rather brusque with us on a number of instances and when we asked for some extra horseradish sauce, brought us a half used individual portion pot from another table rather than refilling the one from our table. Luck of the draw? Maybe. But I'm not sure I'll be returning to find out.

The beer festivals they hold every few months are the highlights from a beer point of view, but they are a reliable source of quality ale all year around. Otter Ale, a favourite of mine from Devon, is their regular ale (house ale). Their other ales are ever changing, including one specified guest which carries a 20p reduction for CAMRA members. They also serve proper cider. Keen interest in music from the pictures adorning the walls to the juke box to the, at times unusual, DJs that perform. People are occasionally foxy but never snooty at the Snooty Fox!

I eventually made it to the high street and things looked a little livelier. My destination was the Chatsworth bar. Outside was littered with young gents dressed in t-shirt, jeans, and they were all smoking like troopers. On entering the establishment, I noted that the bar was dominated with Aussie's. This didn't bother me in the slightest as our friends from down under tend to know how to party. The atmosphere was jovial and the DJ was spinning some classics house hits that soon had the small dance floor bouncing. A mixture of well-dressed ladies to those that were casually adorned, danced flirtatiously with guys who for the most part didn't dress to impress. The real bonus in the Chatsworth is the cheap drink. A good Havana Especial rum and coke came to £3, whilst a 25ml shot of tequila was only £2.50. Bargain! The décor is simple and clean whilst the well stocked bar is served by very efficient bar staff. If you want to find a quiet spot for a smooch, behind the bar is a large conservatoire with long tables, and darkened surroundings. Here because of a friends leaving party on the Friday, I was told on good authority that the place was rammed to the rafters on a Saturday and a much better night. Saturday nights must be indeed special as the Friday atmosphere was impressive. Although I wouldn't take the long journey from Camden just to drink in the Chatsworth, if I was a local, it would definitely be on my list of regular drinking holes.

It is now in the capable hands of a young couple called Derek and Lucy, in the last six months that they have been there, they have got Quiz Nights on Tuesdays and Killer Pool on Sundays and have the occassional Poker Nights. Derek is welcoming and Lucy although in the background is just as welcoming. After being a local there for a long time I was disgruntled when the big divorce was on and moved on to other places but I never say never to not give a place a second chance ......and boy am I glad. The crowd are a great mix and sometimes when you want to have a ball this is the place to go but also you can go in there and quietly mind your own and no-one will trouble you. If you think you are good at pool there are plenty of people to test you including Derek and at 50p a throw you can have a brain teaser of a game. There was an Ireland football game on and 90% of the people were glued to it. They played the commentary which I like and the atmosphere was very involved. There was an English game on at the same time and some of the tables were watching that. They also got to hear the commentary so everyone was kept happy. The pint of Guinness was without doubt one of the best I've ever tasted in London. Being a Guinness drinker from Dublin I'm usually disappointed but the pint here was great.
