This is a butcher located just outside Coles grocery store at the Bondi Junction Westfield Mall. Easy to get to and convenient when you're done shopping at the mall and want to pick something up to cook for dinner. My story, very simply put, is chicken purchased on my way to the car park. So far, so good, right? When I got home I decided to prep dinner early. Upon opening the package of chicken, the smell wafting out was...not good. And since $40 is nothing to sneeze at, I decided to return said chicken and then, go to my go-to butcher closer to home. Here's the thing. The attitude of not 1 but 2 of the butchers here was at first ok but took a turn. Not in a good way. Butcher #1 immediately went on the defense and said there was nothing wrong with the chicken.Butcher #2 made some snide comment about chicken smells and his girlfriend. After Butcher #1 insisted there was nothing wrong, again, he finally gave me a refund. My bottom line is that even if this was 'just one of those things' that happens, I would probably have planned to return here in the future IF the staff had better customer service skills, IF instead of arguing with me, IF instead of making a sarcastic comment for my benefit. Customer service is the name of the game, folks! When a customer is unhappy, try making them HAPPY. So they will come back. So they will tell their friends (and Yelp) to give this business a try. But, basically making a customer feel as if they are the ones at fault is not how a business begets repeat business. And, I am definitely not returning here.

Aldi is the next big supermarket chain to the two Giants that are Woolies and Coles. This supermarket has been opened in Bondi Junction since 2014 sometime. I decided I would give it a chance after all you got to check out different places for options sometimes. I have shopped in Aldi in Europe so knew what to expect. This store is a little fancier then your typical Aldi in that it's got wooden floors and a lot more spacious then some of them. You can definitely see that prices are cheaper in here. Might not have all the household names but if you were selective with your shopping you can trim your weekly shop for sure. They are good for meats and fresh produce and pantry items that brands don't matter so much. Aldi doesn't offer bags though so be prepared with your own and on Occassion you can get quite a long line up for the register as they aren't big on service here. Tonight though wasn't any problem with that but be prepared to wait if it's a peak time. Would come back here again because I did save money compared to what I would pay with the Giants.

It was a joy to find Bondi Junction's Oxford Street is metaphorically (as well as geographically) a million miles from this. On the Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of each week it plays host to a food and farmer's market, with the addition of artisan stalls on the Wednesday and Friday. There is a light-heartedness to these pop-up stalls, with the fruit and veg men playfully vying with the bearded bread stall men for trade, while the cookie stall man enthusiastically tells anyone who'll listen about his new recipes (one cookie recipe even used bacon). It's as much about shooting the breeze with passers-by as selling delicious food. I ate at the Lebanese tent and haven't been able to get the kebbe wrap out of my head since. All the ingredients were just as flavoursome and authentic as all the unpronounceable names on the board which I had to mutter not to look like too much like an uncultured foreigner.

The markets have a mix of flowers, fruits and veggies, homemade breads, takeaway foods and sometime even pedigree puppies. Everything is housed under large white canapees and it's a fun place to browse of try local treats. You're not going to find any bargains.... but you will enjoy the experience...

Well they still exist. In fact, Butcher's shops are making a comeback thanks to the Aussie obsession with cooking and entertaining. One of the standout butchers in Sydney is Sam The Butcher. An organic meat shop, which offers only good quality, certified organic produce. Sam The Butcher claims to stock Australia largest organic meat and poultry range and I wouldn't dispute this. We're not just talking free-range organic chickens, this is organic and open-range everything: beef, pork, veal, lamb, duck and even spatchcock. There's also organic prosciutto, organic gourmet sausages and organic turkey's for Christmas. It's not cheap but you pay for the amazing quality of the meat and you really can taste the difference.

I use this one if I am in a hurry , as it is possible to just park outside on the street and run in to buy a few groceries. The store layout is easy to negotiate around and it tends to not be as busy as the newer Coles. I like that! It's a pity that Waverley Council decided to start charging to park in the Eastgate Parking centre last year. The first two hours now cost $1 per hour.

The layout is really good making your way from bakery through to fruit and vegetables the meats and finally wind your way around each other aisle. Staff are plentiful and friendlier then most other Coles and they usually have a greeter on the door if you want to know where something is, they shout aisle 3 or 4. Big sized store so if you want it then there's a good chance they will have it. Stock is replenished well here. The express checkouts are well managed and they have a lot of machines so the payment process isn't too painful thankfully. The store is easily accessed from the street and parking is easy to get in the Eastgate.

Now having…read morediscovered this Coles, I feel rather lucky to come to Yoga inside the shopping centre where this supermarket is situated once a week; and on this I always make a visit to Coles at Westfield Bondi Junction without fail. Pity they don't award Qantas Frequent Flyer Points for purchases over $30 like their major competitor does. The airy ambience and bright lighting is so welcoming. Love the fresh fruit display as you walk in. Fresh quality fruit, and ever so welcoming. Love a kilo of Red Delicious Apples ($5.50) in particular, they're juicy as. I stock up on these for the next few days ahead. The pizza bar right near the sit down (or take away) sushi bar and cafe is just amazing. I have tried the meat lovers and tropicana pizzas ($5 a slice in the past), and today I enjoyed a full serve of some Peri Peri Chicken Pizza ($5) while killing some time prior to an important dentists appointment. Generous pieces of chicken with the right amount of tangy sauce, with a few pieces of sun dried tomato succumbed to the senses and hit the spot at around 11am. These ingredients are clearly fresh, and they combine well with the cheese - mmmm swiss cheese. Today, there were samples of this and the grilled haloumi and pumpkin pizza for free - such a filling lunch in itself. There were also free samples of some hot chicken curry pie, and in the deli section some beautiful meats and cheeses to try. You do not feel like you've stepped into a supermarket when in these areas, and the service is friendly and consistently good. You can even pay for your groceries at the pizza bar. Coconut water never seems to escape you at this particular Coles either. I stock up (as best as possible) on 1 litre bottles of coconut water from here despite the constant fluctuations on prices (inflation, excuse me) with an abundance of these always on special. I need such for my daily green elixir that appears to be working, although not in areas of my body where I really want (and need it to) as of late. You can move quickly in the self service checkouts too. Deli Fresco at Bondi Junction is a delicatessen that has a generous, salivating selection of cold…read moremeats, cheeses and antipasto. They've won numerous awards for their top quality gourmet food products and are friendly and helpful too. I was lucky enough to try one of their creamy, ricotta cannoli the other day that was on sale just outside their store at east gate shopping centre. They have a good selection of cheeses, including hard and soft cheeses, bries, raclette and daily specials too, the blue cheese on special the day I visited was $4. Their selection of olives also look fresh and more varied than your normal deli, Im looking forward at trying their anchovy filled olives on my next visit.

I have been on the very strange 'Dukan Diet', so meat is a very important part of my life right…read morenow. I don't particularly like getting it from the supermarket so it's nice to find a good Butcher. The one in Coogee Village is exceptional. I think you pay for what you get here, which is gorgeous meat. The men who serve you are always smiling and kind and their product is the freshest meat in Coogee. You could pay about $7 for a fillet of steak which isn't too bad for the quality. They have some beautiful lean mince and sell free range eggs too. Having a local butcher that you like always makes you feel like you're a part of the community too. I highly recommend them.
