Jones Farm Market LLC in Saranac is a hometown butcher that sells by the half and whole, and retail…read morecuts. The store has a good selection of pre-packaged beef and pork, frozen. Some of it is pre-cooked (pulled pork, for example), but most of it is ready for a home cook. They also carry some baked goods, jams, hot sauces, deli meat and cheese, and sweets. This butcher is quite out of the way for my family, but it is a favorite for its quality and value. When we were there during the week of Christmas, they were busy with lots of folks stocking up refrigerators and freezers and people buying gift certificates and gifts. A big favorite of our family is their beef jerky. They carry several types, sweeter barbecue, spicy, and it is fast mover based on the customers we saw. Most of it is less chewy than other butchers in the area, so it's worth trying before you buy to make sure you like it. It was also nice to get sliced cheese (Lipari) to have ready for the holiday tables and leftover sandwiches. If you are looking for something specific or want a large order, call ahead. They will pull the order for you and be ready with it when you arrive. This makes it easier on everyone! Also, they will vacuum seal almost anything so that it lasts longer in a cooler or freezer. Some places won't do this, so it is great service. It can get crowded, but the crowd and the service are friendly. When it's crowded, it may move slowly, but it will be worth it, especially to support a small, local business that provides an important food-based business for the community.

My review is about something that happened several years ago . I used to do Hig Roast for hire . I…read morefriend wanted to have me do one for his family reunion . He insisted on going through them for the pig . The day before the event i went and picked it up . They had skinned it left the kidneys in it . As im taking the kidneys out i spread open the ribs and inside on each side were 2 football size spots of green nasty rotting flesh . I quickly called the shop on my home phone and my friend on my cell . Some one answers the shop phone . I explained the problem. And asked what their solution to this was i was informed they were closed and therefor could do nothing that night . I asked the person on the phone if they would take my number and have the owner call me back . He said he wouldnt do that . I asked why . His response was to inform me that he was the owner and hung up on me . I had to take the rotting pig carcass back to them they did replace it the next day . But as anyone that has ever done or attended a pig roast it takes a long time to cook a whole pig . So the event was ruined and they had a freezer full of roasted pork to deal with . I will never buy anything from them again .

Nice clean place with a great selection, helpful service, and good prices. They have all kinds of…read moremeat like brats, chicken, beef, and fish. They also have some buns and various condiments. All of the meat is shrink-wrapped and a lot of it is frozen. I bought some twice-baked potatoes, two huge stuffed chicken breasts (One mushroom and one broccoli cheddar), and a package of lemon-marinated chicken thighs for $40! The only one that I've eaten so far is the mushroom-stuffed chicken breast and it was really delicious. I'm looking forward to trying everything else in my freezer. They were super helpful about answering questions and giving cooking instructions. Since so much of their food is prepared it's a great place for people who don't cook.

The meat sticks were good overall, although I thought they could have used a little more flavor. I specifically stopped in hoping to pick up some blueberry brats, but they were sold out, so I went with the beer brats instead. They were decent, but again seemed to lack seasoning. I also asked about the cheese dips. The young gentleman working behind the counter was polite, but he didn't offer much guidance or any recommendations when I asked about the options. I ended up trying the jerk dip, which tasted more like cream cheese than jerk seasoning and had little flavor. Overall, nothing was particularly bad, but nothing really stood out either. The Bearded Dutchman came highly recommended, so perhaps my expectations were a little high. I'd be willing to give the blueberry brats a try if I'm back in the area and they're available, but this visit fell short of expectations.
