I like your meat selections but wanted to ask/comment about the Parkside Food version of kielbasa. My husband and I are reitrees and bought the Parkside kielbasa for many years after receiving a tip from a Polish friend. We know the taste by heart. We also had driven to each of the "best" places for kielbasa and sampled them all to make a comparison, back in the 80's. Parkside kielbasa was the winner. When I would buy the Parkside kielbasa, back then, the smell was so great and it FLOODED my car during the ride home. The Sobie version has almost no smell while in the package and is far less fragrant and flavorful than the original Parkside version. I wouldn't drive out of my way for it, to be honest; but that is because I know the difference between the current Sobie version and the original Parkside version. I would LOVE to taste the original version, but that might never happen. I wondered if the recipe that was passed to Sobie Meats is not the same as the original? read more

Just the delicious smell when you walk in is enough to get me to go back time and time again. The main thing we go to Sobie's for is the awesome home-made brats! They have a large selection of unique flavors with a few local twists. The Beef Brisket is AMAZING. They a large meat counter selection with pre marinated options, kielbasa, hot sticks, steaks, pork, etc. Pretty sure they have it all! Love their deli section, too. Homemade sides like kapusta, pickled eggs, different picnic salads, etc. The also have grocery items, produce, beer, wine, and local homemade items. I am a regular customer. We typically buy a quarter cow but when that runs out we buy individual cuts here. I have also been treated to prompt and friendly service, but the prices for most cuts of meat are always at or below the prices of other meat markets I've visited. I'm especially fond of select ribeye and new yorks, the chicken breast are massive and my wife and I can usually share one unless we are really starving. We've also tried the salmon, it is frozen but if you thaw and marinate it right then grill it it is primo. My favorite side is here that I will stop here just to pick it up, you need to try the deviled egg potato salad... It is amazing. They create some fantastic brats that will leave you craving more and planning your next trip. I almost forgot the stuffed pork chops, which truly don't have words to describe them. I have been inadvertently consuming goods from Sobie Meats for years. My in-laws are major fans, and their meat sticks are almost always in the fridge. Last weekend I finally had the opportunity to check the place out for myself. And it's impressive. When you walk inside, you're immediately hit by the overwhelming smell of cooking meat. It's a little disconcerting, but once you get used to it/past it, the place is really cool. Front and center is the massive meat counter, filled with glorious cuts of everything you can imagine. I can't picture anyone who lives nearby going to a supermarket for meat after seeing this. The folks at the counter are super friendly and very efficient. There were 1) enough of them to handle the crowd and 2) they worked fast. I like both of those things. There's a small dry goods section, a bit of produce, and freezers for all sorts of frozen meat-goods and goodies. The prepared soups looked interesting, but we passed. We did get three flavors of their homemade bratwurst. Spoiler alert: The blue cheese, steak was incredible. We also bought many flavors of the aforementioned meat sticks. My favorites being the German and the teriyaki. Even my dogs got into the act. These spoiled little urban puppies got their first pigs' ears and have been smiling ever since. So have I. Love me some Sobie Meats. The staff is super friendly. Eager to answer questions and help you out if you're not quite sure what you're looking for. This is big to me because there's another meat store I occasionally go to, and the staff there, although super knowledgeable, sometimes seems unwilling to answer questions. The selection at this place is great-- numerous cuts of beef, pork, chicken and sausages. The quality of the products seems top-notch, too. Love their area with various spices/sauces/rubs-- they get some stuff that I can't find anywhere else (Plow Boys Yardbird being a prime example). They also sell big bags of lump charcoal in this area of the store-- so far I've found it to be one of the better lump products in the area. Grocery selection is decent. You might not do your weekly "stock up of food" trip here, but they've got some of the essentials to help make side dishes with the awesome meat you just put into your basket. Beer selection is really the only thing I'd call weak here-- they have a couple of craft brews, but outside of that it's your gross American Mega-Brews. read more

I moved from CO to Grand Haven MI a little over a year ago. Over the past year I've repeatedly tried to find a quality butcher in W Michigan with little to no success...until now. Sobie Meats is OUTSTANDING. I called them the night before a scheduled bbq to order 2 Tomahawks. The woman who answered the phone was extremely helpful. When I went in to pick them up it was packed with people however, the employees handled it flawlessly and I was assisted in no time. Now to the really important part...the price/quality/selection of meat is phenomenal! We grilled up those tomahawks a few hours later and they were the best steaks either one of us has ever tasted. THE best west side grocery store in this area. Butchers will do anything for you, just ask. Service is SUPERIOR and speedy. Almost all products are from the surrounding communities or Michigan made. oh we loved sobie meats. this is the only meat market we ever go to. the meats are always fresh. we been coming here to sobie meats since 2012 when we moved to Michigan. we loved in the summer the sobie sizzler they are like steak tips they are delicious. but sobie got everything you need meats coldcuts eggs milk potatoes carrots brownies fudge bread ice cream everything. and the owners are wonderful too. the owners are always saying hi to you. but you cant find any other meat market around with great people and great quality. we wont go to any other meat market then sobie meats. we lived in Rockford Michigan so we drive about 45 minutes to come here and it is totally worth it every time. read more

Today, Feb. 1, Yelp had a review of Grand Rapids area meat markets. THE best meat market, Sobies, was somehow not included. I have lived and worked in Detroit, New York, Chicago, Cleveland, Charlotte NC, Montgomery AL, Traverse City,. The bigger markets had many butcher shops. Many in the ethnic areas. Many of them good to excellent. The smaller markets in the south not many good choices. TC has a couple very good ones, Max Bauers my favorite up there. I have also tried VanBalls and Frank's in GR. Sobies takes a back seat to any in any market I have lived and shopped. And I am very particular in what I purchase. I will also add two more area choices for Chicken Ottos in Middleville. Let's just say I will not buy chicken anywhere else. In fact I am reluctant to order a chicken dish out. For Turkey Ottos Turkey farm in Middleville. Not the same but a relation. You will never buy a frozen turkey again. They offer fresh killed and well dressed turkeys of the size you need. read more
