After looking at other options, Lake Balboa was clearly a step above, and they truly live up to the 5-star ratings they proudly display throughout the hallways. From the admissions team to the social workers, nurses, physical therapists, janitorial staff, and everyone in between, the entire team was professional, kind, and consistent. As a family member, you're not just "along for the ride" here. They keep you in mind too. You're greeted with smiles, updates, and they do an amazing job of quickly putting a name to a face. From intake to discharge, everything was handled smoothly, and even after my mom checked out, they were still helpful with the follow-up questions I had. The only downside: the food isn't great. To be fair, this isn't a restaurant, so it's not a dealbreaker, but it's worth mentioning. The easy workaround is that there are plenty of food options nearby, the location is very central in the Valley and easy to get to, and food delivery was what we leaned on. The facility also offered to store food in a fridge, which we did, and that made things much easier. If you or a loved one are looking for a care facility, I highly recommend Lake Balboa Care Center. Thank you again to the entire team for taking care of my mom and treating our family with real care and respect. - The Goldie Family

My son who made the difficult and courageous decision to ask for help was required to wait for an extended period (7+ hours) without being allowed access to basic restroom facilities. Regardless of the circumstances that brought someone to seek treatment, every person deserves to be treated with dignity, compassion, and respect. People struggling with addiction are human beings who are often at one of the most vulnerable moments of their lives. Denying or delaying access to basic human necessities sends a message that they are less deserving of care and compassion. This type of treatment can discourage individuals from seeking the help they so desperately need and can undermine the trust that healthcare and treatment facilities work hard to build. I understand that facilities must follow policies and procedures, but those policies should never come at the expense of a person's basic human needs. I respectfully ask that this situation be reviewed and that consideration be given to ensuring staff are equipped to provide humane, respectful care while maintaining safety. I hope this concern will be taken seriously and used as an opportunity to improve the experience of future patients seeking addiction treatment. Everyone deserves to be treated with dignity, especially when they are taking the first step toward recovery.

It took a friend convincing me to get help and give Ritz a shot, and honestly, it was the best decision I ever made. Ritz is clean, cozy, and has this chill vibe that makes it easy to settle in and focus on getting better. The overall company was trying to get the most money out of my insurance as possible. I started off in the sober living facility and during Christmas time, I had covid over winter and had to take NyQuil and that was the first excuse for forcing me back into a rehab program that was not needed. My reason for being in the program in the first place was that I had 18 back to back surgeries over the past 4 years and was on opioids for a long period of time so this was a way to detox in a safe environment. There was no psychological addiction, just physical dependence to opioids. They lied about multiple addictions to medication(amphetamine addiction) that I was prescribed since childhood and used it to get more money through insurance. They also lied about an alcohol addiction, when I am medically intolerant to alcohol. When I got back to the sober living after this time I was talked about poorly among staff members and called "attention seeking" for asking for a few days off in order to visit 2 dying family members. Eventually someone in the group had consumed alcohol and told the staff which upset another client due to the unfairness and favoritism. This upset client gave me alcohol without my knowledge or consent and afterwards told the staff that I was drunk. This other client had been upset and doing things like this for 2 weeks prior to this incident. I believe he did this in order to prove a point that they will send people they dislike or with good insurance back to rehab in order to get more money. This client later confessed to me he had put alcohol in my drink without my consent and I had a reaction to the alcohol and was placed back into the rehab facility. I was put on addictive barbiturates and unnecessary medications for 2 days before my insurance denied coverage due to fraudulent services. The alcohol level was so low that there was no logical reason I needed to be there. I was then abandoned as a patient had had to find a new place to live in 2 hours or I was out on the street. Remember it's just a business. They don't actually care about you. They left another 2 of my friends on their own where one eventually fell into a coma following her abandonment. Something else they did was contact my pharmacy and told them never to fill any of my prescriptions ever from any doctor. I was no longer under their care at all. I'm a disabled person and this made it very difficult to obtain medication that I needed. This is a HIPPA violation for sure.

While the staff is incredibly friendly, at least they were to my dad, the place is seriously lacking in communication, and obviously funding. We arrived at 6pm on a Friday evening from the hospital via transport and when we got there, there was no intake, no orientation, no welcoming, nothing. My dad was expect to just lay down in the bed in the room and wait without any information, which is just insane. Thankfully for him, I was there and I started demanding answers and information. Beyond the lovely fountains in the front of the entrance, which is all you see in pictures, the place is clearly falling apart. I even saw roaches on the wall during a conversation with a facility administrator and commented on it to him during a conversation that I had to pull him into due to the fact that there were communication issues. It's a convalescent home, skilled nursing facility and acute rehab all in one building with no real separation between patients that need more care than others. My dad was put in a room with two roommates, one who was ok, but the other one screamed and moaned and cried all night. You will not get a single, solitary night of actual rest because even after the residents are supposed to be "lights out", the night staff is still running around, cleaning, talking loudly, playing music, and operating floor cleaning machines. I was asked the same questions by two different social workers or administrative staff and it was clear the first didn't communicate the information to the 2nd. Additionally, there were so many problems with his medications, which stemmed from the hospital but at no point did anyone actually reach out to his primary care doctor to verify anything. My dad had physical therapy everyday which was great, but even while walking, they had a belt around him to hold him up, while the purpose was for him to get to a point to do it himself. The response time on the call buttons was abysmal. When dad had to use the restroom, he was supposed to hit the call button and just wait, except he couldn't. The facility provides little urinals for residents, but my dad didn't really want to pee in a bottle out in the open, so he started just getting up himself to go which they didn't really like. The food was terrible too. I took him out of the facility after just a week. It's clear this place is poorly run and needs a lot of restructuring to ensure that patients can get the rest that is required for recovery. I feel for anyone who's family member is in this facility because they're probably not getting the care they really need.
