The rooms are generous in size and wheelchair-friendly, and many have beautiful views of the courtyard and small private patios for mini gardens. There is a restaurant-style dining room serving up award-winning meals--and ample desserts! The activity and living rooms have a cozy, family feel, and there is always something going on in the way of games, fun exercise classes, lectures, movie showings, field trips, and special events. The greatest asset, of course, is the patient and caring staff of the family-owned facility. Community Relations Director Jonathan is warm and welcoming. Health Services Director Laura is professional and generous with her time. Javier the Dining Services Director takes pride in his cuisine. The caregivers are loving and nurturing, and they keep lines of communication open. But perhaps the best indicator of the quality of The Gardens is how happy the residents are. They extol the virtues of the place with no prompting. (One woman said she'd tried five different facilities, and this was the best.) They're eager to welcome new residents into the family--by the third day, lunch-goers were calling my mom by name to sit at their table. As with most assisted living places, there is a sliding scale of services based upon need, and when a transition to a higher level of care is required, Safe Haven offers memory care with a higher caregiver-to-patient ratio. Safe Haven is safe and secure, with its own small garden and dining area. Caregivers encourage residents to spend most of their day in activities with others rather than remaining isolated in their rooms. I'm delighted I found this new home for my mom. She's still in the process of settling in--she's been there just under two weeks--but I can already sense this is a perfect place for her.

The Community Director Jonathan gave us a tour and was treated by the residents like an adored rock star as we walked through the halls - making introductions with residents, explaining the extensive amenities, along with the robust calendar of daily activities for residents to participate in. We moved her in a week later (after visiting other facilities). Within 2 weeks she told me "I'm meeting so many interesting residents. It's like living in a resort, everything is done for you. I love it here!" Last night I got a text from her saying that she attended a mini classical concert in one of the residents rooms (that resident is known for her musical talents). The staff is attentive, responsive and kind. Prayers answered! I am beyond grateful.

PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THIS FACILITY!!!…read more I work near this facility and personally know several seniors who live here. Based on direct knowledge and firsthand accounts, I have serious concerns about how residents are being treated. One resident I know personally was not properly cared for after a fall. After that incident, she was reportedly not assisted with meals or monitored to ensure she ate for three days. Her room has flooded twice, and because of how often this happens, it reportedly smells of mold, which raises serious health concerns. After the second flood, she was abruptly dismissed from her room so it could be cleaned and was not allowed to gather her phone, shoes, or any personal belongings. She was sent out in the middle of December wearing only sandals and no sweater. This showed a complete lack of concern for her safety, comfort, or dignity. What is most disturbing is the lack of empathy. This is a facility entrusted with the care of vulnerable seniors, yet the focus appears to be convenience and profit rather than basic human compassion. PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THIS FACILITY!!!! Please choose another place. No one's loved one deserves to be treated this way.

The staff here is amazing, they don't just do their jobs (and they do them well) they are all very kind, supportive and loving toward her. This is a woman who would not leave her apartment, slept until noon, getting her to get dressed was a big task but her nature is social. She was famous in her youth and a singer / dancer. I could not believe that she was up and out of her room (DRESSED) by 8am and didn't return until after 5PM on day 2. EVERY SINGLE DAY she is kept active, she's singing with the pianist, playing bingo, watching movies, doing arts and crafts AND they told me she was participating in the morning walk! One of the ladies there sent me a video of her singing with the pianist today - she is in her element. Her Doctor comes to her every month (more if she needed him). I was weary that they would not be able to get her out of her room and get her dressed. AvantGarde has surpassed my expectations. I can travel without worry, I can visit her without me being the caretaker, I can rest easy knowing she is having a great time and in loving, capable hands.

From the very beginning, Michael Ruggiero, Residency Counselor at Wisteria at Warner Center, made the entire experience feel thoughtful, calm, and genuinely supportive. Although the community is still under development and not yet open, Michael and the team have gone above and beyond to guide us through every step. Michael has been professional, patient, and incredibly responsive. He took the time to explain the process clearly, answer all of our questions, and make sure both my mother and I felt comfortable and confident in the decision. What stood out most was the care. There was never any pressure, only guidance and reassurance during what can be a very emotional process. They truly made something complicated feel manageable and positive, and most importantly, it has made my mother feel excited and comfortable about the future. We are very grateful for the support we have received so far.

LIfetime collections of books, paintings, artwork, treasured possessions, professional archives, multigenerational family photos and records, our personal belongings, all destroyed. The turmoil of homelessness followed. And adding to our deep anxiety was that a large suspiciously cancerous tumor threatening my life had been discovered inside my bladder in December. I am profoundly grateful to Nikkei Senior Gardens for allowing me to have a short-term stay in their beautiful facilities in recovering from over three hours of surgery at Cedars-Sinai Hospital on March 20th while undertaking a program of weekly immunotherapy treatment with the support of its knowledgeable and caring staff and welcoming community of residents and volunteers. The Japanese and Japanese American social and cultural experience at Nikkei Senior Gardens has been bolstering in seeking to restore my health and renew my life with purpose and dignity. Here every day I have had rewarding experiences and formed lasting friendships while participating in organized activities (morning chair-based Tai Chi type exercises particularly) and enjoying walks in the beautiful adjoining curated gardens and walkways that modestly but appropriately honor the dedicated founders and donors. In rejoining my family I will miss the rhythms of daily life here and everyone I have met and befriended, but my family and I will forever be grateful to the directors and staff of Nikkei Senior Gardens for their generosity and humanity.

She was in a skilled nursing facility for two weeks and I was not happy with the care she was receiving there. So, I moved her back home to NSG. The Executive Director worked closely with me and helped me with this decision and my mother's move back to NSG. When she returned home, she was welcomed by everyone - staff and other residents. This had become part of her routine and she was eager to return to it. She was able to make a very good recovery with the help of NSG staff and private caregivers. The NSG staff are wonderful.
