Not a good place to stay. I was disappointed when the host, Stacey called me out for partially parking on her lawn to avoid slipping on the ice. No common courtesy for her customers. Just gave me her 2 cents and threatened me if there are damages.....I do not recommend staying here. read more

I have nothing but praise for The Mays Place. It's charming, cozy and clean, and just a couple blocks from the Opera House and Elgin's vibrant downtown scene. Traveling thru Oregon, I needed a place to stay. The Mays is a lovely historic home that is full of quaint antiques. Its a little ways off the highway, but provides a nice option for folks who like options outside of the hotel scene. It's clean and the beds are comfortable. The host Stacy is friendly and available. She provides complimentary coffee and a nice breakfast for a small price. We will stay here again in our travels. read more

Stay away! No one there when I arrived--despite me contacting her one hour prior (per her request). When she finally came, she smelled of stale beer and was clearly under the influence of alcohol. I was placed in the wrong room (not surprising that she screwed up the reservation). They say every cloud has a silver lining. Our car broke down on a rainy day outside Joseph Oregon. We were towed to Elgin Oregon for the fix. Distressed, and realizing we were staying put for a few days we happened upon May's Place BnB. It felt just like home-- if your home is a gorgeous Victorian, decorated in antiques. The owner, Stacie, greeted us right away and we were welcomed in. It's a warm, cozy environment-- you even get use of the kitchen. The interesting history of the home's 1800's owner is on the wall, and Stacie had plenty of local history to share too. Breakfast is optional and delicious-- don't miss it. Being there a few days, we had the pleasure to walk the environs and meet many locals. There is a feeling of peace throughout the town as you walk it. We here there is a vibrant theater scene in the summer. Don't miss Cowboys and Angels homemade pie and ice cream!! If you are headed to Joseph Oregon, take the time to stop at May's BnB!! read more

Excellant! The house is charming! Great history of this town. The owner, Stacey was a wonderful hostess. The Mrs & I enjoyed the stay, the conversation and the friendship. She did everything to make us feel welcome and make sure we were comfortable. Hospitality was great! We went to eat dinner & just a few places in Elgin. The one place, Stacey's daughter is a waitress. and we met her and had a fun time at the reataurant. The people in the town were very friendly. if we get back through there, we will stay no where else. It is off the beaten path, about 45 N of LaGrande, oregon and an hour S of Milton freewater, ore. read more

What a charming B&B Stacy Miller was a great hostess, I left feeling well-cared for and inspired.

The Mays House Bed & Breakfast First impression: When you drive up, it is quiet. Cars pass by on the Main Street and you barely pay attention to them. The neighborhood kids ride past on their bikes soaked from running thru the sprinklers across the street. Later that evening the bikes are still in the yard, unattended because that is the kind of place this is. It's what we baby boomers call home! It is reminiscent of what we grew up knowing. The house: It is a very calm atmosphere, full of antiques and history, everywhere you look, there is something to see! (If you're sensitive you will get peace and quiet here as it is not a haunted house.) It is very nice and clean! When I say clean i mean -it is clean! (It does not have a musty smell as some old houses do!) The chandeliers sparkled not a cobweb or dust bunny in site! The stairs and hallways have motion lights which are handy on nighttime runs to the loo! The May's Room. Day 1 We had the option of open windows or using the AC. We liked the breeze and opted to give the night a try with the windows open. It was great! The breeze was perfect, the room was cool --but we made a big mistake! In having the window open coupled with the small town quiet factor. All outdoor sounds became very audible! Every car that ventured out that evening, we heard! Every truck and yes you too Mr. Z-28! All cars coming and going --we heard! We barely slept. This was our mistake! Day 2 We cheated with the best of both options! We opened the 2nd window and kept the AC on! Slept like two sleeping baby's on Benadryl! We were wishing we hadn't wasted the previous night awake. Let me make this clear that was our fault! Restroom: The restroom is downstairs! It is large and roomy and has a large window which is great for airing out any remnants of previous users! There is a beautiful claw foot tub/shower tall enough for 6'3" to not have to squat down! My only recommendation is if you are my height which is 5'3" be very careful getting in and out of it. It's built for taller legs! Great water pressure! Breakfast! OMG Breakfast! We were asked what time we would like breakfast. We were asked if we wanted breakfast in bed. We were asked how we like our eggs. Let me tell you this. We received our good morning text at the designated time and descended downstairs. It was on the table waiting for us! Perfect farm fresh scrambled eggs! Light, butterey and full of flavor! Four sausage links seared to perfection! Cast iron grilled potatoes with diced onions- crisp on the outside fluffy soft on the inside! Also available were coffee, juice or tea and fresh slices of sweet crisp watermelon! Stacy: Saving the BEST for last! Stacy has figured out how to make traveling relaxing! She is generous with her B&B and has made this 1890's house my new home away from home! If you have read all of this you already know she is a wonderful breakfast chef! She is happy, friendly, unpretentious and exudes kindness! She is on call for questions or help no matter what time we called! She is knowledgeable about the area and has great suggestions on places to go! We cant say enough good things with out becoming redundant! Footnote: As we were leaving some of the neighborhood kids were in the yard! Weeding for ice cream! It was a joy to listen to them and feel like we were transported back to the "60's! I had the great pleasure of staying at The Mays Place in October. While I was in Elgin for a sad reason (funeral), the owner went out of her way to ensure that I had a wonderful stay. I was greeted by a friendly woman who gave me a tour of the place, provided lots of local knowledge, and offered to help with luggage. The place itself is a lovely historic home. I stayed in the private King room downstairs which was comfortable, quiet, and felt like I was visiting a beloved relative's house. Everything I needed was included - lots of fluffy towels, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, etc. In the morning, the owner made a generous and delicious hot breakfast. As a female traveling solo, I felt completely safe here, especially knowing that the owner took guest security very seriously. Elgin itself is a charming small town. While I hope my next visit is for a more cheery reason, I do look forward to being able to stay at The Mays Place again! read more

The most relaxing four days we've experienced in recent memory. Stacey provided a warm, inspiring atmosphere for my husband and me to just unwind and remember who we were (are). Lying in bed at night amid antique furnishing and wall hangings felt like a scene from "Somewhere in Time", the old movie staring Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour. In fact, we felt we were "out of time", like true time travelers. We reserved a bit of down time just to wander around the town and experience the settled, quiet atmosphere. Restaurants were all within walking distance so our modern gas-fueled vehicle was so out of place. Stacey provide a nourishing, tasty breakfast each morning and her gentle personality added to the charm of the environment. Looking forward to our next visit! read more

The Mays' Place Bed and Breakfast is a wonderful place for people like me who appreciate history, value conversation, enjoy good food, value a fast internet connection and need a good night's rest. All those things come with the room, amazingly enough. It is great to see a house more than 100 years old with everything needed for the modern traveler, yet steeped in so much history. The owner is very helpful and knows the community. She also keeps a full set of brochures for area activities. The breakfast was wonderful! read more

The stay is awesome! We are able to use the kitchen at night for dinners, Stacy (the owner) will come and make breakfast (additional) but it's delicious! She's very accommodating - we brought our 1 year old daughter and she has multiple toys for her. Great place for hunter as well. read more
