What a great find in eastern Oregon! Stayed in their "Davis Brothers" themed room in all its cowboy kitsch awesomeness. The wood-paneled double shower was sweet. The historic hotel vibe was special. Hotel owners David and Rob are very helpful, fun, and friendly to us wet-side urbanites from Portland and to "friends of Dorothy." A fun trip back time! Each room has it own theme and if they are vacant you can ask to see them. It's a work in progress but an interesting bit of history. Good food and conversation. They will even make bfast if you need it in the off season. We stayed near Christmas and it was quiet but nice. There is a park for kiddos out back too.

The Landing Hotel & Dining - Very spendy charcuterie board

Their drinks were not to my liking. I couldn't even take 2 sips. Sent first drink back (which I…read moredon't think they took off the tab even though it was NOT CONSUMED) . I said I can't drink it and opted for a margarita. Have no idea how u can screw up a margarita but it was not drinkable either. No sweetness. Just unlike any other I've ever had. Left that full as well. The charcuterie board app was great. But expensive. The other food was super mediocre. Just felt like it was middle of the line out of the freezer. Cute presentation. Very underwhelming. I can honestly say they're the most unenjoyable cocktails I've ever had. Our server acted like she couldn't care less if we were happy, or satisfied. She knew I sent the first drink back, saw the 2nd left full and didn't ask a single ? The whole experience was very lacking. Skip this place.

Server was excellent, very accommodating and considerate. They specialize in craft cocktails also. I had a Wallowa Riff, a tuned up Manhattan. Best Manhattan I have ever had. We had bacon wrapped dates, steak bites, risotto and for dessert a goat cheese cheesecake. Steak cooked perfectly, as was the broccolini. I cannot say enough good things about this place. If you are anywhere near La Grande Oregon, you must stop there for dinner.

Greenwell Motel - Not a big room, but it has all the features. The big window is to the right in this picture.

Our only real complaint was the bed. Hard beyond extra firm. But, apparently not all the rooms…read morehave the same features. We had a "pet" room that had the original green-tiled bathroom (see picture). The place looks like it was built in the 50s, and there is some deferred maintenance, but it's the least-priced motel in La Grande. My wife and I were born in the 50s, so we remember road trips to places like this, fondly. If you are coming from the West, it is the first motel you'll see. The Rodeway across the street is closed for remodeling. All the features you expect are there: flat screen TV (with more free cable channels than I've ever seen in a motel/hotel room), refrigerator with freezer, microwave, coffee maker, heater, air conditioner, and closet space with real hangers. No hair dryer. There is an old-fashioned, 6-foot-wide "mow strip" between the street and the sidewalk on the long side of the motel that has three huge trees and lots of grass to walk your dog. If you look at pictures, especially on Google street view, you will see what appears to be a pool enclosure. The pool is still there, but it's filled with dirt. The parking lot is pretty big, so you could park a trailer, RV, or moving van in it easily. Be sure to walk over to Hought's 24 Flavors for some ice cream!

Very Affordable - you get what you pay for. I'm giving it 3…read morestars because the bed and pillows were comfy (or I was just exhausted from driving those mountain roads). It was Old, inside and out. I'm fine with the green vintage bathroom tiles but everything seemed worn and tired. The toilet was a little wobbly and the shower head leaked and water shot up to the ceiling. I am sure the floors were clean but they were so worn that I felt better keeping shoes or socks on when I walked around. The room also smelled like burnt popcorn. I know that is a smell that is hard to get rid of so in the mornings while i was eating breakfast and it was still cooler out I kept the door open. I don't know if the owners were "so friendly" as other reviews stated but they were not rude. I think they were just tired and overwhelmed. From what I could tell only maybe 4 rooms at the motel were rentable as they were working to update the others. I feel with the number of guests they can have per night and the price they can charge for the quality of the rooms they provide it may take them awhile to get the place up to making a profit. Probably none of my business but I wish them well.
