There were many times where we literally weren't moving. Each one of us had to take turns walking our group down the river and pulling the rest of us just to make progress. We were told there were sandbars located throughout our trip for us to enjoy the picnic I provided. The only thing we found eventually was a big rock that we got up on to eat. So I would rate Tar River Life highly but the overall experience would get maybe a two from me.

We felt like we were in a magical place on a vacation, not right within Durham. We will be back regularly!

Some off shoot trails go along the shorelines and people come out here to fish or put a kayak in the water. There are plenty of birds and other wildlife to watch in the lake areas. Just a historical note. The Falls Lake area is part of the Neuse River system and is the main supply of water for Raleigh & Durham. It was created in the 70s to supply drinking water for a quickly expanding area of the state. Many valley, farms, and pasture lands were flooded to create it. In times of drought it's not uncommon for the top of an old barn to be seen in the water.

The lady said the map would be in the red box at the office. Wa-la there was a map with our name on it, in a red box. WOW!!! And, get this, the map led us to our spot, with a red pen line, and we didn't have to drive in circles in the middle of the night pissing everyone who is sleeping off. Amazing! The sites and large, level and well maintained. Plenty of amenities- 2 pools, a cute mini-golf course, 2 nice sized dog parks (that's super important to us) one even has a dog wash station, etc. There are several long term sites, but they are beautiful and well maintained. No trashy trailer park vibes here at all!!! The stuff is super friendly and responsive. We've enjoyed it so much that we're planning a longer stay over the summer!

The most outstanding feature of the entire Jordan Lake area is the complete lack of homes built along it's 180 miles of shoreline. So wonderful! I moved here a few months ago in my rv to live long term. I love living here and have the nicest…read moreneighbors who have helped me out many times so selflessly. The owner of the place keeps everything well kept up and clean. I enjoy the peacefulness of this place and often take walks around the pond/property. There are always kids/families outside as well as neighbors walking their dogs. I feel very safe living here and enjoy getting to hear the ducks quacking everyday. I look forward to hammocks in the trees and campfires once the weather gets warmer. :)
