It's hard to rate a place like this when they are caring for your family…read more You expect and demand perfection, but know its not a reality. While some of the staff was top notch treating my grandmother, it seemed like many many were just there for a paycheck. My grandma couldn't move with assistance anymore and they would seem to just let her sit and rot in her chair. They would turn her TV and then place the remote on the counter, 10 feet away from her where she couldnt reach it. Her oxygen tank would run out, her cord around her nose would be dirty and they wouldnt wipe it clean. It is little things like that that one expects better. When you place a family member in someone esle's care - you are putting huge faith in them. My entire family had the attitude of: We better show up at random times to keep them on their toes or they wont treat grandma well at all - how sad is that?

Years ago a loved one was in the skilled nursing section of Capitol Lakes. Another time I visited and my loved one was sitting in his wheelchair in a puddle of pee which had pooled on the floor. Another time I was berated by a staff member because she couldn't find his shoes, which were in his closet, like I told her. I also got accused of stealing food from the kitchen, which turned out to be unfounded. I tripped and fell coming out of the elevator because it wasn't level with the floor. We never visit at the same time, and no matter when we drop in she is always clean, dressed (in HER OWN clothes! ...if you know, you know), and engaged, enjoying herself. Her room is neat and tidy and smelling fresh and her clothes are laundered. In our previous experiences, this wasn't always the case... The team is compassionate and treats all the residents with dignity and respect. They have a sense of fun and you can tell they love what they do and know it makes a difference. They plan fun activities on a regular basis and special events that are really a hoot (Elvis impersonator anyone? Cowboy sing-a-long? Just examples!). They keep us up to date on her changing needs and status. They are always available to answer a call and provide information just to ease my mind. But most importantly I think, as I grieve what my mother is losing and say goodbye to who she was, they take joy every day in who she is now, genuinely enjoy her spirit and sass, and help me to see the joy in that too. I sleep well at night knowing she is in the hands of folks that care for her, physically and emotionally. Tracy and her team are unmatched, and we couldn't be more pleased with their entire program.
