The Marlborough is an excellent pub, with a buzzing fringe theatre upstairs. If there's something good on, it's the perfect place to spend an evening, watching funky little fringe pieces and having a pleasant drink. Well worth a visit!
First thing you need to do is check out the Marlborough's website, pick a show and book yourself a ticket. You'll find a pleasant mixture of comedy, short plays, music, story-telling... all sorts of different nights. The wealth of choice is staggering, similar to the nearby Three and Ten: there will be something for everyone.
Once you've found your show, pop along to the Marlborough on the night, and enjoy the great selection of beers, ales, spirits and wine. The ambiance and atmosphere is lively and friendly, and there are plenty of places to sit and enjoy a beverage, as well as enjoy a round of pool.
Once you do get upstairs, the little theatre is very nicely set-out, and seats about 60. It's nice to see such a nice theatre when you get upstairs: most theatres above pubs are normally a black box with some lights, or just a room with a stage, but this is a proper theatre stage, curtains, a proscenium arch, everything: it helps every piece I've seen in the space.
In short, The Marlborough is a perfect place to see fringe theatre, and have a quick pint! Go give this little pub and some fringe theatre/comedy soon, the Brighton Fringe Festival's coming in May! read more
