Doctor Brightons is a busy gay venue, right on the seafront and so a little away from the St James Street gay scene. Unlike some of the bars in that area, it has a more down to earth, pubby feel, with pool tables, wooden floors, and a friendly atmosphere. As James Y notes, its seafrront location makes it an attractive choice for clubbers, but it doesn't have that manic 'pre club bar' feel. There's also a decent cocktail and shots menu.

This pub has changed alot in the ten years that I have been using it. Ten years a ago it was male dominated, gay, and not very clean. The beer wasn't well kept and staff had an attitude! Then about 5 years ago more women started to use the venue. The furniture became more sofa styled. Art work was displayed on the walls. The picures were more naff than not. Then recently the furniture has improved and staff are ok. The walls have better pictures on it. The beer is better kept now than in the past ten years. At Pride this pub always pushes the boat out. This pub is very popular now with students and the gay community. Faults are the loud music, irritating DJ's and its not close to my home!

Such a fun vibe, actual good music unlike many other clubs around. And very friendly staff. Love it!

I stopped in on my overnight stay in Brighton thinking I would have one, maybe two drinks and go on…read moreto another bar. Nope! I had such a great time here singing along with the cabaret performers, that I ended up being here for hours. All of the staff were fun to be around and made me feel welcomed. Drink prices were average for Brighton (a Bacardi and Coke was £8 which is not too bad in my opinion) and were not too strong but not weak either. Definitely recommend for a fun time, but be warned, because this is a smaller venue sometimes they engage a queuing system, like on the evening I went, but I wasn't in queue for long.

The staff are really friendly and welcoming and really do their best to create a relaxed atmosphere. We drink there quite a bit in the daytime as its a lot more chilled out than the evening surge. They have free wi-fi too so its quite handy to pop in for a pint, some lunch and get on-line. In the evening (especially at weekends) it can really take off with its award winning entertainments; Karaoke nights, DJs and hilarious drag acts really bring the crowds in. Well worth checking out.

My friend and I decided to go to this pub to meet up with a friend of his. It's at a good location,…read morenear the Royal Pavilion and pretty close to the centre of the city. I definitely agree with Vanessa A.'s review, regarding the fact that the majority of patrons are girls. My friend and I were the only two guys at this place. We hung out with five girls that night (all friends of my friend's friend), and had a pretty good time chatting, and drinking pints of Guinness stout beer and Strongbow cider. Although there was not that much people since we came on a Sunday night, I enjoyed the atmosphere and the camaraderie. This place has a fairly decent pool table. I played a couple of games with the girls my friend knew and also had a good time shooting around the balls. When I think of this place, I think red for some reason, mainly because the red walls. The benches I sat on were not too comfortable, though, the cushions were kind of firm. Despite that, I still had a good time hanging out with my friend and the girls. Overall, this is another decent pub that I had a pretty good time drinking and hanging out with friends and another one of the pubs that made my trip to Brighton memorable.

Finally went to this place last night after tip off from one of Brightons top Yelpers!! Wish i'd…read morecome here before now. Really nice inside, quite a lot of seating,a cosy little room down stairs. Great selection of drink, whatever your taste is. And in my eyes they played some of the best music i've heard in a bar for ages. Last night it was afro-latin music,if i had my way every bar would play this type of music!! Other nights are on as well.....check local press!!

My local and definitely one of my favourite drinking establishments in Brighton…read more It's regularly listed in the 'Brighton's Best Bars' lists floating around on the world wide web. It also makes a few craft beer pub lists too as it has a very long list of world and craft beers, mainly in bottles, to chose from. It may surprise a few but it also serves amazing cocktails. A craft beer place AND a good cocktail place under one roof!? Surely not! But yes, it definitely works, they do a mean Amaretto sour and Espresso Martini and some of the more unusual cocktails too. It's not table service though which I actually really like as it remains down to earth and has a local hangout vibe. It gets really busy at the weekends on Friday and Saturday nights and there's often a band on or a cool DJ playing Northern Soul over the weekend too. In the daytime it's really chilled out and the bar staff are always happy to chat to you and talk you through the latest beer/cocktail menu (or about anything really!). There's also seating outside but with the view of the top of St. James Street it definitely is a better view inside with its quirky decor. I lucked out with this place being my closest pub!
