    Raisin bread you shouldn't buy

We have been customers once a month for almost 10 yrs. The store is fantastic! Best deli meat & cheese quality & lower prices They have bulk food of all kinds, even gourmet popcorn! Their baked goods & breads are outstanding. The one thing I won't recommend is their raisin bread. Don't waste your money! They changed it to cinnamon raisin & EVERY loaf has huge holes in it & dry cinnamon falling out They should go back to what was fantastic to begin with & didn't need fixing

Front entrance! Great selection of windchimes.

What a gem! This store makes some amazing sandwiches on the freshest bread. The deli offers a great list of choices for your creations. Quick turnaround, too. There is also a fabulous selection of candies, baked goods, and spices. You can eat at the designated seating area outside or take it with you.

An excellent specialty store full of local spices, grains, fresh pasta, cookies, strawberries and they even make delicious sandwiches on premises. All items are served and prepared by beautiful Mennonite women! This is a must place to visit for both locals as well as tourists coming to Vermont

It makes me very sad to hv to leave such a negative review. I shopped at Market Wagon last Friday. I bought several meats & cheeses from the deli. Two days later, the 'home style' roast beef was spoiled & sour. I actually owned a deli in Manchester Discount Beverage before my health required that I close it. I called ahead to let them know that I was coming in to show them the spoiled beef & that I wasn't looking for a refund, just a store credit. The only man I've ever seen there answered my call & said that I must not hv stores it properly bc their refrigeration is excellent. I said that all the other deli items were just fine. I arrived at the store to be treated like I was trying to put one over on them. How would that be? I returned the beef in its original bag. He made a point of hanging around the register as I checked out. The girl at the register was extremely unpleasant to me, including seeing a cast on my right arm but didn't so much as push my items toward me so I could bag them. This forced me to reach all the way across the counter to get my items with a cast. No one ever once said, "We're so sorry that happened. And thanks for your continued patronage." Nothing but glares from the entire staff. Now don't get me wrong, I don't know what religious group they are but they never show any kind of joy, happiness, kindness or even manners as they grunt their answers to your questions. No smiles. No 'how are you today.?' No ' thank you so much.' Nothing but angry, inconvenienced looks all the time I've shopped there. But they were even colder & less friendly than they always are. Upon arriving back home in Manchester, I also noticed that they did not comply on any of their packages with a proper 'packed date ' & absolutely NO 'Sell by' date. On ANYTHING. Unfortunately, I will no longer be shopping at the Market Wagon in Shaftsbury, VT. This experience made it too ridiculous for me to continue to spend $ there.

Great store for sandwiches, preserves, deli, etc. Staff were courteous. Locals favorite place to shop for essentials.

I love everything about this little market. I travel all the way from Albany there just to buy pickled eggs and their spices.

They had the best prices on maple syrup, freshly made sandwiches, and homemade goodies than any other store.

Worst experience in Bennington! Do not patron if you enjoy…read moreany level of hospitality & actual value. I came in cheerful & this guy ruined the day... I ended up leaving angry and literally cried.... Their online ordering has a Reuben with an option for $2 extra meat & a note box so I cld have written there asking for the extra portion on the side. EASY. Yet, I went in person to see what the specials were hoping for a great lunch, because Im here for medical procedures at the hospital and had fasted since the day before. Id never been to The Elm Street Market before, but it was close to the hospital, & love Vermont markets for all the years I have lived here. But THIS place :: T E R R I B L E mistake! The employee at the counter was as fake & uncaring as it gets, & shld definitely not be the customer guy. He would not just let the added side be $2 , but wanted to weigh it out & charge me for a deli style $6 sliced side in a package as an addition to the $14 sandwich. ($20 Reuben?!) I said I didn't need or expect a package of sliced cold meat, that I was just adding the side portion to share with my pups. For Lunch. He just becomes patronizing, dense, & fully lacking capacity or willingness to help and says he "can't bc it just doesn't work that way" unless I get it on the sandwich. I cld order it online but not with him at register. And for some reason he cant figure out a $2 portion of meat. Surreal Incompetence. The next level of downhill not-so-fun is seeing the tiny soup. A cup of soup for $8. A latte "special" that I cld not even taste the smoked maple flavor and was only 3/4 full. It's actually shocking- what happened to actually CARING about just helping ppl have a good experience if you are working in the restaurant business as a small local independent market? Hey Elm Street Market Fella, you cld do the simplest things like not try ripping ppl off & being kind! His patronizing attitude & lack of capacity really took it over the top- how am I supposed to enjoy this $36 ordeal? Supposedly he is refunding the meat, bc I explained I didn't order a package of meat. He took it out of bag & literally said "take your sandwich & drink & go". I was upset~ I said this is truly unacceptable ~ try some Kindness & Authenticity! And left. The other young lady who was working that day & witnessed this whole debacle seemed to feel bad making 'Im So Sorry' faces. She at least offered me a dollop of maple syrup & noted the drink was not filled~ but also was being oppressed by his attitude. I cld tell he was being an overbearing tyrant. Wtf - this is NOT Vermont as it should be DUDE. All it took was putting a few slices on the side for $2 & filling up a drink. Ridiculous.
