As soon as I walked in, I wondered why it had taken me so long to check it out. Located in an old warehouse, CMI doesn't have that warehouse feel. A good size room, filled with hand-braided rugs and baskets, the place is cheerful and inspiring. Even though I wasn't looking to buy anything, I just couldn't resist purchasing a Pawtucket rug (made from scraps of fabric) and a basket (perfect for storing those odds and ends). The staff were friendly and helped with moving rugs, giving the background to how they are made, and helping to roll them up for take away. While I was there during a huge sale, it seems that even the normal prices are pretty reasonable, as it was, I got a full area rug for less money that my IKEA rug cost me. And it is more beautiful, better made, and local. S This place has been there for 20 years, and is still a hidden gem.

From the fun baseball caps bearing phrases that are dripping with sarcasm to the posters, bumper stickers and lapel pins that add a little levity to life. I definitely stop by here when I'm looking for fun gifts to give out of towners because there are so many references to local staples that are uniquely Rhode Island. Did I mention the staff is super nice every time I come in here? They know I'm mostly browsing and eventually will find something. They're helpful when you need them and they let you be to just explore and have a good time... sharing insights when they are needed and just overall helping make this a chill shopping atmosphere.

Top pillows are reversible, giving me two looks in one. Truth be told, it is expensive to reupholster. You've got the cost of fabric plus the labour. With this said, I have never regretted spending a single penny. Open seven days a week = convenient! Now, let's all make a pact to clean out the garage so we can upcycle and make space for the car.

When you walk into you are kindly greeted, we met Adam who was a peach! There actually were quite a few employees, always around and willing to help, because plant galore is an understatement. Every plant is labeled and you can tell WELL taken care of. Adam and another gentlemen were watering the plants while we were there and you could tell, everything here is done in a very particular and careful way- I love that. When I say TONS of plants of all kinds I mean it. While my mother has a green thumb, and I just don't have plants because my cats will eat anything- I learned after the fact their website shows names and pictures of plants they have that are pet-friendly, so I want to indeed go back and grab some. This place you can get easily be in for a while especially if you look at everything. They also have pots and things of that nature and little trinkets and stuff. They also have a little area to grab Honey related drinks called The Hive Bar I wrote a review on this business. Feel free to check it out they're awesome and an amazing touch for this place. I 100% say go check this place out. Any questions, just ask an employee they're all so kind and know their stuff. Adam had all the answers we needed. Oh and I was shocked the prices were extremely reasonable, my mom left with a really cool plant- and I plan on bringing her again soon.

Lots of cool wooden…read morethings. Walpole Woodworkers is a home and garden type of place that has an incredible selection of mundane but also unusual and unique items. Of course a lot of the stuff is wood, like fences, cool light posts and mail box poles, huge and elaborate play sets for kids, nice sheds, gazebos and pavilions, tables, chairs and stools and my favorite, little wooden bridges. I've always wanted a bridge in my back yard, just wish I had a stream or river to put it over. Walpole also has some very cool and creative gates, arbors, cupolas and lattice thingies. If you actually make it inside the store you will see gigantic and very impressive looking bird houses. These aren't just little boxes nailed to a pole but a seemingly endless variety of shapes and sizes for everything from humming birds to pterodactyls. Lots of bird baths so the avians in the houses can stay clean and cool spheres, thermometers, wind chimes, garden critters and great looking weather vanes. Even high quality basketball hoops and backboards. All kinds of things that you probably never thought of but once you see will desperately desire. Some of the stuff you can take home in your pocket, other things you need a huge truck to move. I love going here just to look around, I seem to find new things every time. Sure, a lot of the stuff is basically useless and unnecessary and this isn't Wal-Mart, the prices aren't cheap. But if you are looking for a bird house that probably has more room than most people's homes, an baroque and ornate moon gate, a fat little Hotai Buddha, a lighthouse weathervane or a cool but totally useless and frivolous little bridge, this is the place.

I found books I'm familiar with (Autobiography of Malcom X), and books I've never heard of but am happy to have now. Everything here is beautifully curated, from the clothes to the random knick knacks strewn about the store. It is definitely a place that pays homage to the best parts of a bygone era. You can browse racks of blazers, ties, uniquely bright patterned linen shirts crafted in India (crafted in a material that designers no longer use, apparently), and feel as if you jumped in a time machine and landed in a well-dressed man's walk-in closet in the 1950s. I flipped through pages of someone's old travel journal, documenting their trip by sea to Europe. All in cursive, there was a page that struck out at me: "CAPTAIN'S AUTOGRAPH: E.C. Wiggle". This place is a gem. I now know what I would name my future dog, for sure:). This place is one part vintage heaven, one part history lesson, all parts My Favorite Store In All Of Portsmouth.

I was a bit disappointed when we walked in because it is not a souvenir shop. It's a bookstore that specializes in H.P. Lovecraft and things of that horror nature. The store is well organized and has a lot of books and other memorabilia in the genre. Everything is priced really well and they do not seem to try to gauge you by charging more than they should for things. The person who was working when we came in was super nice and very engaged with customers. I really liked them and the place but I didn't purchase anything because it wasn't what I was looking for. However, if you're looking for this sort of stuff, it's the perfect place for it.
