Our 5 month old daughter has been coming here for a couple months now and it's been fantastic! The space is beautiful, the staff is caring and experienced, and meeting new parents who are in a similar phase as us has been helpful and comforting. My work/life balance has greatly improved.  Having a gorgeous, uncrowded space where I can dedicate my time to my job has made me much more efficient and dramatically reduced the time I spend working when home.  This allows me to be more present with my family when we're together and minimizes the distractions that can come from having a remote role.   The owners are on-site each day and it's obvious how much their service and the community they've built means to them. Our 6 month old daughter attends the Mini Makers daycare while I work in the coworking space. This has been a perfect solution for our family when we were struggling to find reliable childcare. The caregivers are all so friendly and knowledgeable. Our daughter was refusing to drink from a bottle when we brought her here and after 2 days she started drinking milk from her bottle like a pro! I love how the caregivers keep us informed throughout the day and send lots of cute photos of our baby. The coworking space is also amazing. Everything is so comfortable and clean. Since the Maker's Place has become part of our weekly routine it's been such a sigh of relief! To know that I will have uninterrupted time to work without feeling guilty about taking time away from my daughter is amazing! I know the time we spend here is just as valuable for her as it is for me, she gets to interact with other kids and learn all sorts of cool things while I get a chance to focus on what I need to get done without needing to multitask! If you have the flexibility to work in a coworking space, I highly recommend the Maker's Place! I've never had an issue finding a quiet space to get things done. All the parents have a unique understanding of how valuable our time here really is so although there's great camaraderie you won't be interrupted when you're working. The childcare is top notch. They have systems in place to communicate with parents effectively so I don't worry about leaving her downstairs while I work. I can focus because I know exactly when she's sleeping/eating/playing in real time. It's also reassuring to know that if needed I can go right downstairs and be with her or pop down to check in. The flexibility is also unmatched! I haven't heard of anywhere else that's able to accommodate the unique hours and schedules of individual families. They check in every morning at drop off and accommodate our specific nap times and feeding schedules. I've also been able to add extra hours on weeks I knew I'd need them. As long as they have space available for child care they are very accommodating. Plus you have the opportunity to adjust your set hours every quarter! I love the community aspect of the Maker's Place, it's so nice to be around other parents and give our daughter time to make new friends and interact with other children! When we've had a sleepless night or are going through a developmental growth spurt it's great to be surrounded by people who understand and can offer some tips and reassurance. read more

Our son has been attending pre-school for over a year and has really been flourishing. He loves all of his teachers and has gained a lot of confidence since he started. We also recently put our infant daughter in care and I work from the co-working space. It's very helpful to have them both at the same place while I can co-work upstairs if the baby needs anything. I've been working out of the Makers Place for over half a year now and find it so helpful to have a place where I can focus and work while knowing my little son is being cared for. This is THE coworking space if you need childcare too. My daughter is 9 months old and I love that I am on site and available if she needs me. Their amazing daycare team sends me photos and updates while I work so I don't sit and wonder "when was she changed/fed last? How is she doing?" I can get real time updates. The coworking space feels like a dream, the victorian charm is in every corner and there are so many cozy spots to tuck away into and get to work. They have a beautiful wrap around porch you can work at, a designated napping space (for tired parents!!!) and a cozy space to comfortably nurse if your still breastfeeding. I feel like they've thought of everything here. The Makers Place is exactly what I was looking for and I am so thankful for it. read more

"As a first time mom, I was so overwhelmed when my son was born. At home, when ever he was napping, I would just take care of chores and totally neglecting my well being. Finally, when I found Makers Place it was a breath of fresh air. Now, instead of doing dishes or laundry, I put myself first. I was able to start meditating again and now I have finally the time to study for my nursing license exam, so I will be ready to return to work after my maternity leave ends. Moreover, I love how my son started to reach milestones rapidly after he started the childcare program at the MP. I'm back in school as a mom of two and before joining Maker's Place, I was completing all my assignments and taking exams while my kids were sleeping (sometimes sleeping on me!), which left me with very little kid-free time to relax or spend quality time with my husband. Now that my toddler is at Maker's Place, I can complete my school work during the day and use the times when my kids are sleeping to catch up on self-care. My favorite thing about Maker's Place is the proximity. I love being right upstairs from my toddler in case he needs me. That was especially helpful when he was going through separation anxiety. I also love being in the coworking space with the other parents. Even though we all have different jobs, we can connect about our children and parenthood. I absolutely recommend checking out Maker's Place. It's designed for parents by parents and it was the perfect solution to what our family needed. read more

The Makers Place is an incredible concept--a quiet, supportive work environment plus cooperative childcare. However, the reality is a different story. I worked out of Makers Place for several months and placed my infant son in their care--he was approximately 7 months old when we started attending. Not once, but twice when picked him up he had an OBJECT HE COULD HAVE EASILY CHOKED ON in his mouth and NO ONE NOTICED. The childcare space is not adequate to serve the differing ages. When we started attending I expressed my concern to Leslie, the owner, that the babies were not in a space that was separated from the big kids. I suggested putting up a gate to keep the babies safe from choking hazards, running kids, toys being thrown etc. (as a mother of a 4 year old and now 10 month old, I know how real these dangers can be for babies.) She assured me that they have removed all of the choking hazards (small pieces) etc. from the toys and that everyone working in the center had been trained on how to keep the babies safe. Fast forward a few weeks and my son almost choked on 1. a small hair clip worn by one of the older kids that had fallen to the floor and ended up in my son's mouth and 2. three pieces of bark mulch that were tracked inside by the older kids shoes. Both times, no one had noticed that he had anything in his mouth. Leslie assured me that she would train staff on the issue and communicate to parents about bringing any "choking items" into the space. However, without a separate baby space, I couldn't leave my son there and know he was safe. She also encouraged me to let the childcare workers know that he had a "propensity to put objects in his mouth" when I dropped him off. Have you ever met a 8 month old baby who doesn't? Instead, I requested a full refund and never returned. One additional concern that I brought up to Leslie that was not addressed--the outside play area has a gate that is not locked and can easily be opened from the back alley. Given the neighborhood where MP is located, this is a safety concern. I encouraged her to put a lock on the gate and/or a keypad and only give parents the code but she assured me that neither were necessary. I've seen beer cans in the back drop-off area so there's definitely "an element" to the neighborhood that does not mix with a children's play area. However, the owners do not seem to be taking the risk seriously. The co-working space is adequate. The internet is fast, its' quiet and there are coffee/snacks available. However, nothing is ergonomic. The available seating is old, wood dining room chairs and/or cheaply assembled padded seating. There is very little private meeting space appropriate for phone calls except for one room that has no windows and gets very HOT with the door closed. I do not recommend MP for childcare or as a co-working space. Great concept. Terrible execution. read more

I have had the pleasure of working out of the Makers Place for the past 6 months. The owners Leslie and Joel are very lovely, nice, professional people. The coworking space is well planned out with multiple spaces to work ranging from a front gallery that has multiple seats, to a big conference room, a smaller quiet room and a sunroom which is one of my favorite places to sit and get my work done. They have a small phone room that gives you a private place to make phone calls. They have a stocked kitchen with amazing coffee both hot and cold, multiple amazing flavors of tea, fruit-infused water. They are also generous enough to include fresh fruit and granola bars to snack on. They also offer up booking out the conference rooms to the public and offer the space as public event rentals on the weekends. They offer on-site childcare which I have not had the pleasure to use but I have been here long enough to see how much of a help it is to be able to have your young children nearby when you work. It is a great place to meet other entrepreneurs and there are limitless networking opportunities available. Added bonuses include family workshops and parents night out. There are ladies, that come in throughout the month that provide massages, acupuncture, and facials, for a fee, but it is a lovely option to have if you need to relax a little bit more. Being a freelancer for the past 15+ years and working out of my apartment, I was starting to feel boxed in and was not accomplishing what I set out to do. Being able to be here with like-minded people gives me unlimited amounts of motivation. I would definitely recommend anyone takes advantage of the free coworking pass offered to come to check it out for a day and see if it is something that would help you in your professional life. read more

We have enjoyed being members at the Makers Place, and having our toddler in Child Care. Before the Makers Place we had a part-time nanny because we thought we would be able to juggle working from home with our infant son. That ended up being overwhelming as our son grew and demanded more attention and active play from us. I wasn't fully ready to put our son into a drop-off daycare center at 15 months, so when I found the Makers Place and toured it, I felt a huge sense of relief. Each month I notice our son learning new words or skills so I know we made the right decision. Since joining we've been able to find a good work/life balance and be present every day. If your business has outgrown your house, if you just can't juggle it all anymore, if you need a hot shower and a cup of coffee and you don't even work at all - this is your place. There's lots of soul and inspiration and space to step into your power, to boot. Do yourself a favor and check this place out! Oh and I wanted to add: it's not just like a random room full of toys with bored staff sitting around. It's a true preschool with a loving director, wonderful teachers, and caring women taking good care of your children. There's a schedule and a curriculum. They text you via the app when there's any activity like a diaper change, nap, etc. If there's a problem - you're right there and they will come get you. This is a great option for career moms who want affordable childcare while having the opportunity to get work done! However, even if you don't plan to use their childcare services, this is one of the warmest, friendliest, community-driven co-working spaces I've seen. I started shopping around for a co-working space in May, and when I found The Makers Place, I was sold. In short - my favorite things about the Maker's Place are the people and the space itself! From the moment I drive onto the property, I am greeted by a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The co-working space is cozy and the attention to detail and thoughtful collection of resources make for a functional and friendly work environment. There are too many wonderful things about the Maker's Place to limit my favorite to a single element... I love it all. My daughter has thrived in the preschool - making great connections with other children and the staff, and her learning has accelerated. She looks forward to school, and misses it when she's gone. In addition to this, my productivity has greatly improved - working from home has it's challenges and it's not always easy to focus on complicated tasks/meetings - but at the Maker's Place I can focus on work and get it done quickly and efficiently, leaving me free to focus on family and self care when I return home. The Maker's Place provides a nice distinction between home and work life - when I leave here, I'm done for the day, whereas when I work from home, those lines are often blurred. All I can say is I wish I had found the Maker's Place sooner than I did. The first word that comes to mind when I think to write about The Makers Place is home. Not only is the space a renovated, beautiful, Sacramento home- but it felt like home the moment I stepped in. The space invites you to focus. You may focus on relaxing and sipping a cup of coffee before jumping into work or you can focus on creating community. To begin with I took a tour to see if I wanted to rent the space and the pictures online match exactly to what the space is like, not only the style and design, but the feel of home. Everything is clean so your mind has a place to declutter. The owner, Leslie, was flexible with our needs as a renter and it was beyond helpful that she thought of everything in advance. You won't be surprised by anything when you rent the space. I appreciated her systemic approach for the rental and we had an incredible workshop in the space. After the tour I spent four hours coworking on a day pass and I loved the mix of work, community and coffee making between the members. To say the least I was widely impressed with the space, Leslies's assistance, and the mission of The Makers Place. Next step, I am looking forward to having a membership in a few years! read more

The Maker's Place is a gem. I wish it was around when my sons were little! I no longer need childcare, however I was in need of a casual, creative space to work in Sacramento. My husband and I have our own landscape architecture/planning company with an office in West Sacramento. However, I have been working out of our lovely home office, since it's nice to have a workplace separate from your spouse. The downside is that working from home can tend to get a bit isolating. I stumbled upon the Maker's Place at the perfect time and I am loving having it be my "office" away from home. It is casual, comfy, and has some of the greatest creative members so far!
