My daughter just graduated from learning tree preschool. We highly recommend this place. Each teacher is really attentive, caring, and sweet. My daughter had Ms. Robin but all of their teachers help each other out for afternoon play and morning check-ins. So, If you have a 3-5 year old that's potty trained, I would suggest this is the place to be. They have a great curriculum and the kiddos developed great social skills. I wish I had more kids so I can send them to learning tree. It's a great transition before starting kindergarten. They are opened from 7am to 5pm and it's very reasonably priced. read more

Both our kids have/are attended Learning Tree and we were thrilled with everything: the staff , teachers, facilities, environment, etc. They do a great job in providing a caring, gentle environment for our kids to learn and socialize. Some other preschools have more of a day care and heavy handed approach, but Learning Tree excels in focusing more on teaching, skillbuilding, and nurturing. So let me start off by explaining where we are at right now. My 5 year older daughter, Naomi, has been in a Kindergarten class at a private school for 2 months now. For the two years before Holy Spirit, Naomi was attending Learning Tree Preschool. At the time when she started there, we were very new to the area and enrolled based solely off a few friend's recommendations. I have to say that my daughter had the most amazing experience while there at Learning Tree. They have a very good program going on there and Naomi loved going to school! The whole entire staff there is top notch and I will end with this...Naomi just had her first round of parent teacher conferences and her teacher said that she is by far one of the best students in her class. She scored off the charts in such categories like patterning, shapes, number recognition, final sounds, initial sounds, rhyming, etc. My wife and I would like to take credit in teaching her all of these areas, but I am full certain that she learned them all from the amazing teachers at Learning Tree. I have already written a review back in February 2012, however, I just read a ONE STAR review from J.C. on July 26, 2012. I must respond to J.C.'s review. My children were LT students for three years. I say "students" because what my girls learned there was invaluable. They BOTH were/are ready for kindergarten when they graduated from LT. It is bitter sweet because we have now completed our time with LT. However, they ALL are just great teachers, parents, counselors, mentors, and friends. My girls will surely return to volunteer time there! In fact, they wish they could still attend during the summer months just to "hang out". Back when my little one was having potty accidents, they gave me "gentle and kind" advice on what changes to make at home. If they staff are giving you advice J.C. to try to do something different, don't get defensive but try to do the work to help the program. Which, in turn, helps you in the long run and your child. When my mother suffered a stroke early this year, the program was there to HELP ME with MY CHILDREN so I could take care of my parents. Ms. Debbie went out of her way to take stress off of me. I am forever thankful!!! This is beyond the scoop of a pre school program. For sure, MORE than what I paid for monthly!! J.C, I remember your son and his grandmother at the program. I SAW how hands on his grandmother was with your son to get him to join in with group activities and such. I think it's wrong to put blame on a program, if perhaps, the blame should be placed else where. Your son cried all the time, SURE they may ask you to stay for a bit to help acclimate him but then grandma stays the entire day with him?? If I remember correctly, you were there for a while. IF such horrible things were happening.. why DID YOU NOT PULL HIM OUT SOONER?? If I saw bruises on my child.. that would be IT!!!!! I would PULL immediately. You stayed for a few weeks???? So, that is way, I feel your ONE STAR of LT is not fair! For other parents really LOOKING at YELP for a great program.... your review is NOT helpful. My son went to Learning Tree for his pre-K. I absolutely love this place!! The director is super nice and her welcome made my day everyday. The school is very well organized and clean. The breakfast has a big variety and hot lunch is healthy and yummy. All the teachers are so kind and caring. Cannot thank them more for taking good care of my kid. I always say Learning Tree is a hidden gem. We spent 2 wonderful years here, 1 during COVID, and they were our saving grace. The teachers are responsive, patient, kind, and so generous. It truly feels like a family. When our lives were filled with chaos and Zoom meeting, Learning Tree held strict protocols, kept their doors open, and provided the love and structure our son needed. Both the director and the teachers are very available via email and great listeners! They have outside play area as well as an indoor gym. Their job room and their pets (multiple!) were some of my son's favorite things! They're a thematic school and everything is so well thought-out and planned! They make sure to include all five senses when exploring a theme- down to the snack they serve! My son is very well prepared for Kindergarten and we are so thankful for this special school! read more

I have a 5-year-old Kinder that went through Learning Tree and a 3-year-old that is there now in the 3-year-old program and who will be in the Pre-K next year. I can say that my experience with Learning Tree has been nothing but positive. Ms. Debbie, the administrator, is fantastic. She runs the school smoothly and can be very understanding and accommodating when life's unexpected emergencies happen, like needing to keep a child at school for a full day rather than a 1/2-day due to work emergencies. All the teachers and teacher aids are brilliant. They're caring, understanding, but assertive. While my first child was relatively auto-pilot, Ms. Robin helped foster his imagination and growth through the many developmental projects they have throughout the year. My second child can be a lot more feisty. Ms. Jen has been fantastic keeping me advised of how our littlest is doing each day and working with me in keeping our littlest one focused at school, rather than just leaving everything in our lap for dealing with at home. The parents there are all clearly interested and involved in their child's development and as a whole, the school is absolutely wonderful. My oldest was very well prepared for kindergarten and I expect nothing less with my second child. The teachers are well aware of the kindergarten teachers at the local elementary schools. The teachers are also well aware of the local elementary school's individual teaching atmospheres and have made suggestions as to where and which schools would provide the greatest success for our children. I would recommend this pre-school to anyone without any reservation whatsoever. read more

It took me a while to process what happened to us and I decided that I need to write this Yelp review to let everyone know what happened. Long story short, after touring many preschools in my neighborhood, I decided to enroll my DD into this preschool (2-half days/week) in January for this coming Fall. The enrollment process was painful as it took them 6 months to figure out a schedule for DD when it finally came to the first day of school, they kicked DD out for "crying too much", "not a good fit for their school", "not ready for school because she was born a few days after the 9/1 cutoff", "had a potty accident", etc. They didn't even bother to call me and instead they sent an email while DD was in school, which I didn't even see until way after, and then I was caught by surprise when I picked her up. They were having story time in the classroom when I got there and I saw DD sitting next to the teacher (not crying) enjoying the story. Of course she cried as soon as she saw me at the door. Then the teacher asked me if I saw the email from their director and how they decided that she's not ready for their program so she asked me to take all of our belongings with us on the way out. I was dumbfounded and shocked. I went to talk to the director right after wanting to find out what happened and she pretty much said the same thing. I was speechless as I was caught off guard. I didn't expect her to get kicked out of the school on her first day. I asked her if they could give her a few more days and she said no and told me to try other programs nearby (named a few other institutions) or maybe come back next year instead. Honestly, I'm not mad that they kicked DD out as I understand that no one wants to deal with a child that's more difficult or requires more attention than others as they might not have the manpower to do it. I also understand that it may be disruptive to other kids if DD cries a lot. However, I'm really upset with the way that they handled this situation. First of all, I had already mentioned to them (during the tour last November) that DD was born a few days after the 9/1 cutoff and they told me that it was fine. Then during the enrollment, the director had brought it up again in one of her emails that she sent me (how DD isn't supposed to go to school until next year). I should've seen that as a sign that they didn't want to enroll her. She even made a weird comment during the orientation day after I had thanked her for working out the schedule for DD, she said that she was hoping people would drop today since they have a lot of families on the waiting list. Again, I did not see that as a sign. They also ensured me that it was fine if DD cries or has a potty accident as it's completely normal because they need time to get used to the new environment. They even asked the parents to pack extra clothes in case of potty accidents. We had discussed all of the problems that they had named/listed for why they kicked DD out and they said it was fine and not a problem before the first day of school so I'm not sure why all of a sudden they've became these big issues where it resulted in them kicking her out. The fact they refused to give her a second chance is what upset me the most. How do they expect a 3yo kid to act perfect and not have any separation anxiety on the first day of school, especially for a child that has never been to school or daycare before? Again, this was brought up to them beforehand and they said it was fine and even commented how some kids cry for weeks or months, which is completely normal. They definitely over-advertised themselves and over-promised and their ONLY situation of working with difficult kids is to expel them from school on the first day instead of working with the parents or giving the child a second chance. These are 3 or 4 yo kids that we're talking about. No second chance whatsoever. I'm so glad that DD doesn't understand how the real world works yet, otherwise I wouldn't even know how to explain to her why she got kicked out for "being scared at a new environment with strangers", "missing mommy", "stressed out so she peed in her pants", "being the youngest in her class", and the worst--didn't even deserve a second chance. Now we're in limbo and still in the process of trying to find a place for DD as most schools have already started. I could've chosen a different school if they hadn't over-promised themselves during the last 10 months. I really don't care about how many years this school has been around, how highly regarded it is in this neighborhood, and how many 5-star reviews it has on Yelp. Based of our experience with them, I would not recommend this school to anyone as it lacks professionalism and a loving environment for the kids. If they are so harsh on a 3yo kid like this, I would not expect them to teach my DD how to care, love, and forgive. read more

I remember the first day me and my daughter visited Learning Tree Preschool. We had visited several schools previously that day, all of them are advertised and well reviewed by preschool review websites. Somehow, my daughter wasn't thrilled about any of them. As soon as we entered the school, I saw my daughter's face became bright, smiling. Before we finished the tour, she whispered to my ear.." I want to come back". She must have sensed something good. Later, I found out from our neighbors that I was lucky to be able to get in because this school hardly have openings. And they are highly respected in the community even though they do not advertise. Most parents choose this school for recommendation by their friends or relatives. The teachers and staffs are kind, and the parents are very much involved. I see parents volunteer to help for various issues all the time so I think it is positive. My daughter just loves the school. She comes home and tells me how nice teacher "Ms. A" is , how kind teacher "Ms. B" is .. go on and on. My daughter is no special child So, I know the teachers are genuinely nice and kind to students. They have a well documented curriculum and I see positive changes in my daughter not only her academic learning but also her manner and attitude.. she became more confident, better behave. They also have extra classes offered on campus such as music and gym class, so it is a plus for me . If you are looking for a preschool for your kid, I highly recommend you to visit this school. It has been A+ for me and my daughter and I am positive that it will be for many months more. read more

This school is amazing! It is clean, organized, orderly, and a wonderful groups of teachers. We have tried a number of different preschools in the Land Park area and this one is by far my favorite. My child was happy to go school and happy coming home. They do so many fun activists and share information in newsletters. My daughter is on her second and sadly final year at Learning Tree. She has loved it since day 1 and my husband and I could not be happier with our choice to send her here. The teachers and director are professional, caring, and all child centered. The children are blessed to have beautiful classrooms, a wonderful playground, a gym to run around in for rainy days, and fabulous meals! Our daughter attended Learning Tree for 3 years and we could not have been more than happy with our experience with them. The entire staff is incredible. They go above and beyond to show how much they love and care for the kids, provide incredible hands-on learning experiences for them, have amazing themes, special events and celebrations, and prepare the kids academically, socially and emotionally for their transition to kindergarten. This is a great preschool with lots of support from the teachers and administrator! There are actual classrooms for the kids to go into, not a big open space separated by low, temporary walls, so it's not as noisy or visually distracting. The school is very clean, the staff is polite, and the administrator is always available and approachable. The teachers try to work with you on any concerns that arise and don't make you feel "like a stupid parent in denial" as I have experienced in a previous school. Everyone seems happy to be there, children and adults alike- my son even begs to go on days he doesn't usually attend. I am writing this review in response to a post dated 7/26/2012. I realize how important it is for our children to have positive and loving environments when we are away from them and empathize for the family that had a bad experience. However, I feel it necessary to share my experience because finding a great preschool is a difficult task. I am new to the Learning Tree (3 months), and my family and I are very pleased with our experience at the Learning Tree. Here is what I know to be true: the facility is modern, well organized, with classrooms for each age group; the bathrooms are clean and have kid-friendly toilets and urinals; the meals and snacks are very healthy and mostly organic; their facility has a full-court basketball court that the children can engage in physical activities during hot or rainy days; the director is on site to greet parents and answer questions every morning; there is a monthly newsletter with information about upcoming events, requests, and the monthly lunch menu; ouch reports and potty accidents are reported with the date and time and placed in the child's cubby or check-out folder. The head teachers for each age group are accredited with a B.A. in Early Childhood Education (a rarity at most pre-schools). They and the support staff provide a structured, nurturing, creative learning environment. I have found them to be very open and honest with comments or questions I have regarding my son. I also feel they recognize and understand the individual needs of the children, as they accommodated my son's nap schedule. My son is very happy here and looks forward to "school" every morning. We feel blessed to be part of the Learning Tree family. read more

My daughter attends Learning Tree and loves it. She started off her preschooling at a different school and had a rough go of it. We heard about LT and decided to check it out. Ms. Debbie was so welcoming and on our visit my daughter did not want to leave...she loved it. The facility is cheerful and clean. I love that each class is in their own classroom...it gives it a more structured and school-like feel. My daughter has learned all of her alphabets, phonics, how to count to 100, geography, etc. and they have guest speakers come in to teach the kids about animals, reptiles, fossils, etc. and they don't charge extra for that. What is even better is that if a guest speaker visits on a day that your child is not scheduled to attend school, you can still bring your child on that day and they won't charge you for it. It is truly all about the children learning and developing. On rainy days they have a gym that the kids can go run around and play. My daughter is one of those kids that is unable to go to kinder next year because they moved up the bday cutoff date. We decided to keep our daughter at LT instead of enrolling her into transitional kinder, because she loves it at LT and loves her teacher as well as all of the other teachers there. Our choice was clear once visiting the facilities and talking with the staff. Learning Tree offers both a well balanced curriculum, as well as imaginative and creative play. Learning Tree has been a very good preschool in the neighborhood for 27 years. My son is currently attending his first year there. Our family could not be happier to find Learning Tree. All teachers there are very delighted, caring, polite, patient, and sophisticated. The facilities there at school are very comprehensive especially they have a huge gym for the children to run/play during rainy days. I am quite surprised that the school invited guests from fire & police departments, postman, librarian, Santa Clause, tooth fairy, & etc to school to teach the children proper concepts constantly through the school year. My son has been learning good manners, proper socializing skills, academic works, ... from school. I don't usually hear preschool would assign homework for preschoolers, but Learning Tree is one of those schools would assign homework during the second year. Based on this, I have confidence that my son would have a very smooth transition from preschool to kindergarten. The director has over 20 years of experience in this field of early childhood education. As a parent, I have learned so much from her, the director, by just talking with her about how to teach my son at this young age. I am a piano teacher. I have heard so many good/positive reputations about Learning Tree from my students and their parents even before I was pregnant with my son. My son has been telling me he loves going to school everyday even on weekends since the first day of school. As a parent, knowing my child loves going to school. What can I ask for? As an educator, I believe every child is brilliant until the child meets the right person/teacher to guide and stimulate him/her in a right direction. I am glad our family picked the right school. This is our son's second year at Learning Tree and I highly recommend them. The director and teachers are very caring and they do an excellent job with the kids. They have individual classrooms, playground and huge gym where the kids can play when it's too hot or raining. They have extra classes like gymnastics, music, dance etc the kids can attend for an extra fee. They have lots of activities and visitors for the kids to learn from. Now I totally understand the review in Jan 2010. This preschool has no clear, consistent, unanimous education method/ philosophy. Each staff could be very different. I know some people had good experience. Unfortunately we had very bad experience. The staff for my son did not know how to communicate with my son who did not speak English yet (we are bilingual family). She requested us to teach him English at home every time she talked to us, which would not help keep our bilingal tradition. She required my son must say in English what he wanted for breakfast from the first day. She refused to give him food if he didn't speak and even took back the food that had been given if he didn't say in English. This happened even when grandma was standing aside. I felt my son resented to speak English after a few days at L.T. In the morning when I dropped my son the staff and principal wanted me to stay a long time with him because he cried. This did not help him transit. The staff also did not know how to discipline him. When my son ran in the playground, she just held my son's both arms and wanted him to stop and say "sorry". I know this staff has been independently in charged to a class for less than a year. Obviously she is not patient or experienced. On the fourth day my son had 8 finger nail marks on the upper arm and one small bruise on each shoulder. There was no school report. The principal was not professional and did not show integrity in handling the problem. Now my son is at another preschool, happy and no problem at all, sings English song everyday. The new school wanted us to leave immediately after we dropped him so the bonding between teacher and kid has built up fast. In the new school kids are more active, playing louder and happier, compared to L.T. Later on L.T. requested me to remove my review thru Yelp and letter of attorney. This is manipulating review, totally unacceptable. read more

My daughter has been attending Learning Tree for two years now and it gets better and better each year. The staff is highly qualified as nurturers as well as educators. My daughter has learned such amazing social skills and her academics have sky rocketed since she started their program. I absolutely love love love this school! I heard about this school even before I had kids. Then a friend was taking early childhood development classes and her instructors also highly recommended this school. My older one is finishing her second year here and moving on to kindergarten next year. She has learned so much, always new songs to sing, different themes every week, lots of hands on activity to keep her interested. She loves going there everyday! My younger one had a bit of an adjustment in the beginning. He was previously in another child are center which gives absolutely no structure and pretty much let the kids do whatever they want, whenever they want, including very limited discipline. So when he started at LT, he was not used to the structure. He certainly tested his limits for a good couple months at LT. But his bumble bee teacher and the school director are absolutely amazing! They let him know what is ok and what is not ok. And being a parent who didn't know how to deal with my own child, they helped me and guided me so I can handle similar situations when it occurred at home and give consistent discipline at home. It's been a year since he started and his bad behavior from the previous school has pretty much gone away. He has improved so much thanks to ALL the teachers and the director for their patience and guidance! He is starting in the panda bear class this summer and he is already super excited! Kids need structure and discipline. If you don't teach them now, they won't respect you in the future. LT definitely has it all! Great loving teachers (and you can tell that the teachers really DO care about your child!) and they certainly know how to keep the kids interested and learn new things at the same time! It is very clean and organized. I don't know how they do it with so many kids, but the bathrooms are ALWAYS nice and clean! Even at the end of the day! I am a bit paranoid when it comes to bathrooms so this is a big plus! What can I say? All the teachers and director are wonderful, the program is very organized and structured, it's clean, and a loving environment with positive discipline, I just LOVE LOVE LOVE this school! Our son has attended Learning Tree for almost one year. He will attend Sutterville Elemnentary in the fall. He has learned so much and will definintely be advanced when he reaches elementary school. The teachers are loving and caring, while the curriculum is disciplined and mirrors that of transitional kindergarten. First off let me say that I LOVE Learning Tree Preschool and would highly recommended it to anyone who asked. I had experienced other preschools through my oldest daughter and was extremely lucky to get her in on her final year prior to kindergarten. In 9 mos. they (the staff) had my daughter prepped and ready for school. There was no question that I would send my youngest daughter to Learning Tree, therefore I placed her on the waiting list even though she was a new born. The day finally came and my youngest has since graduated from Learning Tree. She is in the top of her kindergarten class and excelling in school. I credit 80% of her success to Ms. Jen, Ms. Robin, Ms. Debbie & Ms. Karen.....they touched and influenced my children's lives in away that could never be repaid. An added bonus is the approach they (the staff) have toward the parents....we are one big family and they are always willing to help & support the parents. read more

I am a big fan of yelp, but I never write reviews. However, when I read that my son's preschool was given a bad review on Yelp, I decided to break my silence and give my two cents. My oldest son went to Learning Tree in 2006 because of the great recommendations given to me by other families in the area. My youngest is now currently attending the school. How's that for a glowing recommendation!! The school teaching staff has a very low turnover rate. There are now two different teachers since my first child attended the school 6 years ago. However, the change was only because two teachers retired. So I guess that means the teachers love working here (a plus). The teachers my kids and I have interacted with are very kind, polite, and patient. My son loves to eat breakfast there. The staff even manages to get him to eat all of his veggies during snack time even though he refuses to eat them at home. My son always comes home with numerous art projects. Since he started Learning Tree, he has been taught alphabet phonics, basic numbers, days of the week, and months of the year. The teachers even have lesson plans for the human body and amphibians. The school has many outdoor play structures covered from the sun. When the weather is rainy and/or cold, the kids play in the school's gymnasium. The school has recently remodeled so the classrooms, common areas, and bathrooms are in great condition. The school is always clean and orderly. The teachers and the director, Miss Debbie, are always available to answer any questions or discuss any concerns. They are also magicians at adapting newly enrolled kids into the program. Whenever I see a new child crying while watching mommy leaving, I am amazed that within a few days I see that same kid running around and laughing with the other kids in the playground (so much for abandonment issues). The school has numerous celebrations like Halloween, Winter Holiday Parties, and Graduations. They have a pumpkin patch field trip in October. The school has numerous visitors (i.e. doctor, dentist, police officer, Santa Claus) to teach the kids about health and safety. Best of all, the parents all seem very connected to this school. They donate their skills and various items throughout the year to help keep the school a great community asset. Would I recommend this place to another parent? What do you think? read more
