We all need more trained professionals in this area & both she & he were efficient in getting the cut done quickly & correctly and professional in their questions, & conversation. My husband was pampered, got a great cut & a future barber learned on-the-job. It was an excellent experience seeing Dana deliver instruction, supervision & have my Hubby leave with a big smile of satisfaction. We will definitely be returning.

Craig's Barber Shop isn't a terrible place, and the haircuts I received were fine, but I never felt…read moreparticularly welcome there. Even after becoming a regular, scheduling appointments, being friendly, and tipping well, the other barbers rarely acknowledged me. Most of the time, nobody said hello when I walked through the door. I would either be directed toward a seat with a head gesture or barely acknowledged at all. Appointment or not, I usually felt like an unexpected walk-in rather than a returning customer. The atmosphere also seemed very selective. The barbers appeared friendly and conversational with certain customers they already knew or preferred, but that same energy wasn't extended to everyone. I understand that barbers naturally build closer relationships with some regulars, but basic acknowledgment still goes a long way. I'm generally friendly, don't give people a hard time, and try to keep a positive attitude when doing business with someone, so repeatedly feeling ignored was uncomfortable. Erin cut my hair during my visits and was always kind, patient, and willing to listen to what I wanted. The cuts could be a little slow, and they seemed somewhat less familiar with curlier hair, but the results were still pretty good and they clearly made an effort. I can't speak to the cutting ability of the other barbers because I never had an appointment with them. The work I received was okay, but the shop's overall customer service and atmosphere could be much more welcoming.

During a recent cold…read morespell, I arrived for a scheduled haircut and saw a large "OPEN" flag displayed outside the front door. Despite the sign, the door was locked. I knocked, assuming there might be a simple oversight. The owner, Craig, came to the door and responded in an angry and condescending manner, asking what was "wrong" with me and stating that he was having lunch. If the shop was temporarily unavailable, a brief note on the door would have prevented confusion. Instead, I was spoken to in a way that was surprising and inappropriate, especially given my long history as a loyal customer who consistently tipped well. Later, Craig called to inform me that my barber was retiring. During that same call, he told me that I was no longer welcome at the shop. After forty‑five years of patronage, this was both unexpected and disappointing. Based on this experience, I cannot recommend this establishment.

Finding a quality men's barber in rural central Massachusetts proved more difficult than I…read moreexpected. Most shops I came across were either classic small-town barbers offering basic cuts or salons geared primarily toward women's styling. Then I found Roots Barbershop & Lounge in nearby Wilbraham, and it felt like discovering a big-city grooming experience hidden in a quiet New England town. Housed in a beautifully restored historic building that once served as both the town's post office and train depot, Roots blends old-world charm with modern style. Inside, antique pieces mingle with contemporary décor, creating a space that feels both refined and welcoming. Though the shop is intimate, the thoughtful layout, with barber stations lining the walls and a lounge-style waiting area in the back, keeps it feeling open and comfortable. I arrived just before my appointment, and Ryan graciously cut short his lunch break to get me in, which immediately spoke to the level of customer service. As soon as he heard my Texas twang, we struck up a conversation about his South Carolina roots, making it feel less like an appointment and more like catching up with an old friend. That easy conversation also made it simple to communicate exactly how I wanted my haircut. The haircut itself was outstanding. The fade was clean, the beard trim was expertly shaped, and the finishing touches elevated the entire experience. Ryan used a straight razor to clean up my cheeks and neckline, a service that's becoming increasingly rare and finished everything with a hot towel infused with subtle notes of jasmine and honeysuckle. It was the kind of grooming ritual that reminded me why a true barbershop experience is about much more than getting a haircut. Thirty minutes later, I walked out looking sharper, feeling refreshed, and wondering how a shop with the quality and service of an upscale urban barbershop ended up tucked away in a small Massachusetts town. If I lived anywhere near Wilbraham, Roots Barbershop & Lounge would be my barber without hesitation.
