Great ambiance with modern decor, living green touches and an extensive smoothie menu. The juice options were also lovely. This place is a nice healthful sanctuary in the downtown area, and I loved it! There is a small refrigerator by the door that holds some amazing goodies to purchase like brownies and cookies that happen to be healthful in the non-dairy kind of way. Add those to a bright green salad and a berry and/or greens filled smoothie, and you've had a fine meal that will healthfully power you for hours. I wish there were a few more plant-based dressings and gluten free plant-based toast, but, it's still a fabulous selection on their menu. There is ample space to accommodate plenty of diners consuming juices, bowls, salads and the like. It's a very welcoming atmosphere that is calming, as well. Great place for healthy choices. I like these kinds of healthy restaurants. The Maca Root is a new place in Sandusky. They specialize in açaí bowls, salads, and sandwiches. Almost everything is healthy. There's tons of vegan choices, and the prices are okay. I came in knowing I wanted coffee. It has a decent variety of coffee. The latte is about $3 for a medium. All kinds of non dairy milk is available. They have almond, coconut, and soy. I was pleased with the coffee, then I was pleased with the bowl I ordered. The Peanut Butter Cup is made with chocolate and peanut butter, and can be topped with anything from the list of toppings. It's about $8 for a bowl. This tasted a lot like a Reese's cup, but healthier. Almost everything here is vegetarian. Only the collagen protein you can add to something isn't. This is a good stop before getting on a ferry because it's practically right there. read more

I LOVE THIS SPOT! Seriously, it makes me sad it's so far away from me or I would probably be here daily. The Maca Root is about to upgrade their location (good for them), but for a little while longer, they'll be in this building. I loved their selection of fresh smoothies. I tried the monthly special, the Pink Dragon Smoothie and it was delicious! I can't stand when smoothies claim to be "healthy" but turn out to be sugar bombs. That is NOT the case here. If you're a fancy health nut, you'll be pleased that you can have add-ons like bee pollen, CBD, chia seeds, hemp seeds, activated charcoal and more. The superfood smoothie menu is fairly large, so you can find everything from fruit-based to coffee-based. They also offer smoothie bowls, cold pressed juices and toasts (like avocado and bruschetta with optional customizations). I am so thankful I was able to get in and out quickly and that the staff took appropriate COVID protocols. I don't go often during COVID, so when I do, I make it count. If near this part of town again, I would go out of the way to stop here for a healthy experience. I'm so excited that they are moving into a larger space! read more

Kelly, the owner, offers items you rarely see: Goji berries, Bee pollen, activated charcoal, spirulina powder, maca root. They have cute merch, too, and cold-pressed juices and wellness shots.
