I'll start out saying that it's off the beaten path, lol, down a short path of the main road that looks like it doesn't go anywhere but it leads to this amazing building built by the owner of the brewery. The beer is all organic, with a small yet wonderful selection and you can tell it has been brewed with love and is great!! The Yippee IPA and the Ambitious Lager are both amazing. The interior of the building is a sight to see!! From my conversation with Jim (the owner) most of the material was reclaimed or locally sourced. It's absolutely beautiful! The ambiance is wonderful as you are sitting right next to the fermentation and brewing tanks and a wood brining furnace. The attention to detail that was put into this building is amazing! If your in the area and have never been you should be here, if your traveling through you should stop by for a beer or two...or three A hidden gem

I really liked Old Bull Brewing for the main reason that their beers are experimental... or some of…read morethem anyway and those that may be less so are solid and enjoyable also. It's also very convenient that the brewery is extremely close to the Interstate so relatively easy on and off. But more importantly than that and what my primary focus is are those creative beers! I knew what my first beer was going to be right away and that's when I saw the Old Bull Fashioned. This amber ale tasted just like the Old Fashioned cocktail which I can't recall in ever having such a thing in beet form. It was a really fun one to drink and luckily where they had their beer in cans they had this beer available so I got to take it home and enjoy it once again! It seems like this brewery has a thing for pickles and looking at Yelp pictures they really get creative with toppings for them which is why I also purchased a can of the Spicy Pickle beer to take home. I have had pickle beer before but it's been a hot minute. Old Bull's version is very good and lives right up to the spicy pickle aspect quite nicely. With this beer though we had by itself and didn't pair it with any food as we were not sure what would be a good fit but despite that it didn't diminish our enthusiasm for it. Two other beers I got was their Exit 89 which was a great blonde ale and the Dark Horn English Porter. Both very enjoyable beers also. An additional thing which makes Old Bull so cool is if you go to the restrooms in the hallway you will see a map of all of Montana 's breweries, when they opened and the status of "closed" if the brewery is no longer in business. This is so informative and just really cool all the way around. Definitely a five star experience with this brewery!

SWPFTD had picked up a Montana beer trail map and lo and behold Frenchtown has a brewery. How did I not know this and how could I not stop and make OBB brewery visit #276? OBB is right off 90 so if you are headed into or out of Missoula it's convenient to stop and check it out. We were first in the door right after they opened at two. OBB has a really nice taproom and it turns out has been around for about five years. Kind of a Big Dill is a spicy pickled blonde. She sounds like a good date actually. This was spicy but just as I was starting to worry I had made a mistake it mellowed out. Barbwire Crosser stout was very smooth and great roasty flavor. This would be really good on nitro! The Mrs is a Scotch wee heavy. Really nice flavor and would be perfect for sipping in front of the fire while it's snowing outside. It's not snowing now though! 60°!!!! Bugle Juice is a hazy IPA we it's really great juicy flavor. This beer should have "JUICY" in big letters across the butt of its sweat pants. Yeah, you know what I'm talking about. SWPFTD had ordered a Straight Shooter amber ale. This was another solid beer. SWPFTD was happy with it and I like it when she's happy. OBB is putting out some really good beer. I travel a lot and go to breweries all over the country and OBB holds its own and then some. I liked all of these beers. Nicole working the bar was welcoming and a pleasure to talk to. If anyone is a glutton for punishment, please, follow my brewery, and distillery, reviews from across the U.S. and beyond! https://www.yelp.com/collection/-8iscFkpiiCI563-FDfwGg and if anyone is wondering who SWPFTD is you will have to check out my review of Black Market Brewing Co in Temecula, CA to understand. Yes, you will need to read into it a little to get the joke but I have confidence in you! I hope my confidence is not misplaced.

And there is no way it was a service dog. You don't feed service dogs human food. and the little blonde waitress was saying nothing to them about the animal being in the restauran. and she catered to that table all night and ignored the three tables around the dog table. we constantly had to ask her for services. and the dog table never had to ask. I think this should be brought to the attention of the Montana Food Service for a vioration of Montana Food Code. this was the shittiest service we have had there in the past year. And then the dog in an eating establishment with no one talking to the dog owner. We love dogs and have dogs. But we respect others in a restaurant environment to leave ours at home. Hope Bears Lair pulls there head out of there ass and corrects this behavior and telling there employees to speak up.

After ownership changed, we noticed many of those employees gradually left. At the time, we didn't think much of it, but after our recent experiences, it's clear that something has changed--and not for the better. Tonight was our third visit since the ownership transition, and unfortunately it will be our last. Each of those three visits involved the same server, and each visit included some form of "technical difficulties" with the ordering system. While technology issues can happen anywhere, what matters is how they're handled. Tonight, the handling of the situation was unacceptable. When we arrived, two tables that sat down after us were served well before we were. Our server eventually informed us that the ordering system was down and that management required all orders to go through the system, despite it not functioning. She took our order on a fluorescent green notepad and told us they would have to do things "old school." Within minutes, it appeared the system was back online. We waited patiently, assuming our order was being prepared. Meanwhile, the tables that arrived after us received their meals and were halfway through eating. After we had been waiting for quite some time, our server approached us holding the same fluorescent notepad and casually stated that she wasn't sure what happened with our order. When we asked whether it had been entered, she replied that she didn't really know and that there was no way to tell if it had been missed. Rather than acknowledging that our order was likely lost, the explanation felt vague and dismissive. When I asked what happened to the written order she had taken, she pulled a crumpled piece of paper from her apron and said she wasn't sure, adding that it didn't matter anyway. At that point, we had been sitting for approximately an hour with no food. There was no genuine apology, no sense of urgency, and no ownership of the situation. The most frustrating part wasn't the lost order--it was the attitude. Mistakes happen in every restaurant. What customers remember is how those mistakes are handled. As we prepared to leave, the response we received was, "Well, $hit happens... all the time." That statement perfectly summarized our experience. To make matters worse, friends of ours experienced nearly the exact same situation just weeks earlier. After waiting roughly 30 minutes for drinks and much longer for food that never arrived, they were also told there were "technical difficulties" and ultimately left without being served. At this point, it's difficult to view this as an isolated incident. When the same problems occur repeatedly with the same server and the same explanations, it points to a larger issue involving accountability, training, customer service, or all three. We understand that restaurants face challenges, especially under new ownership. However, customers deserve attentive service, honest communication, and a basic level of professionalism when things go wrong. Unfortunately, we experienced none of those things. It's disappointing to see what was once a local favorite decline to this level. We sincerely hope ownership takes these concerns seriously and invests in improving service standards before more longtime customers decide, as we have, that it's simply not worth coming back.
