The Lotus in Birkdale specialises in good, old-fashioned Chinese dishes (Peking in particular, although I'm not totally sure what the difference is in terms of the dishes), offering a full restaurant menu at takeaway prices (or so they claim in the window).
The Chinese dishes they offer are what you'd expect at a local Chinese takeaway really, covering the usual sweet and sour, chow mein, spare ribs, as well as a few other surprises. The food itself is of a decent quality, the black bean sauce being particularly tasty, but it's nothing life-changing and if you are prepared to make the short journey to Poon's in Ainsdale then you'd find much nicer and more authentic tasting Chinese cuisine on offer. For those of you less inclined to go Chinese, there is also a small selection of chippy favourites on offer here too.
However, if your options are limited to this or the quite rubbish Rainbow 2000, I'd say...cut your losses and go to Maccies. Just kidding; it's not that bad but there are better places, just a little bit further away. read more
