In fact it has old records on the walls, and lots of other things. Actually, it is probably one of my favourite pubs in Canterbury, which is saying something because there are a lot of pretty cool pubs here.

Having my whole trip being around all these businesses that takes such pride and making it festive, honestly only makes me wanna come back during December. I am from the United States, so it was definitely getting used to having to always go to the bar which never has stools to order your drink and then close out right away. My girlfriend, I ordered some beers and then of course I had to try their chili which looked absolutely amazing on their menu. There's nothing more enjoyable than having a hot meal during colder weather. I very much enjoyed the flavors and texture of the chili. I believe it was sour cream on the side and the rice, which I was adding in. The portion was the right amount and I was definitely full. This place and name does have a fun ambience. This is very chill area and definitely highly recommend stopping in and grabbing a beer. Don't forget to order that chili because it was delicious.

LOVELY! BRILLIANT! FRIENDLY!…read more Just one block off the main drag of Canterbury, on a much quieter street, is the semi secret oasis from the hordes or tourist crowds, is The Foundry. Walking right in is the louder pub bar area, to the right is a quieter spacious large industrial room with full wait service from the friendly staff. Great local craft beers! £18 FISH & CHIPS! A beautiful chunk of fresh cod in a thick crispy hot batter made with Canterbury Brewers beer...lovely! And about £2 cheaper than average! The chips were tasty and plentiful, and the homemade mushy peas were creamy. Great homemade tartare sauce!

A nice airy space with high and low tables and a long bar. Love the sustainable and local focus. Really pleasant server and barkeep as well. We ordered the bubble and squeak starter which was a new one for us Americans. I had the steak and Foundry Ale pie which was incredible. Exectly how you want this sort of thing - loaded with tender meat and veg and a huge, flaky crust. He had the hunters chicken which I heard no complaints about. We finished with the sticky toffee pudding and it was one of the best things I ate during our travels. Loved the sparkling fruit cider that I ordered: fresh and bright and bubbly. Can't recommend this place enough!

We went in and ordered. Still no food for quite awhile. A waitress finally came over and asked us to pay. Odd since we didn't have food. She said you pay first - well no tip for her. I told her the service was very slow and she said she'd check on our meal. Food finally came. We had split a Big Mother Clucker Burger, fries and onion rings. Food was good. We left with no tip as there were at least 5 wait staff and none of them seemed to want to come out to the patio and none seemed very happy to be there. We saw others waiting a long time and it was not a friendly atmosphere.

It's busy, but not too busy - there's a good buzz about the place, without it being too noisy to hear one another - and there's a lovely relaxed vibe that instantly relaxes. Not only does this place serve absolutely delicious pub grub (see my pictures for proof), they also have an assortment of board games available to play, making your visit extra fun! I went here twice during my time here in Canterbury and enjoyed several long games of Settlers of Catan (yes, I know - I'm a geek) with great food and booze. The staff are not pushy and, so long as you have a drink on the table, are happy to let you play on until your heart's desire. We never felt pressured to hurry up and leave, which is always a bonus in these sorts of pubs. On top of this, lost in my game of Settlers and too engrossed in my enjoyment of the game, my phone was sadly stolen off our table. Now this may sound like a negative, however upon telling the staff about what had happened they were so kind and helpful and - thank goodness - a few hours later, called us to let us know they had found my phone (which had been mysteriously returned to the table) and they had it waiting for me behind the bar. Throughout the whole ordeal, they could not have been more helpful, which just made me love this place even more. Please also note that, despite the above story, this pub does not have a dodgy feel to it at all and I was very shocked when I noticed my missing phone! It's not the sort of place you'd generally feel concerned about your belongings going missing - hence my phone sitting freely beside me on the table - so don't be put off by this aspect of my review!!
