Considering the wilderness of retail that is Rawdon this place is really useful and well used by the locals. It sells all the usual suspects including a huge range of local and national newspapers, magazines, a range of cards, gum, tobacco, stationary, canned goods, drinks (including those super cheap but e-number-tastic little 20p cartons), chocolate, crisps and all sorts else. The staff are friendly enough although the shop has its restrictions - they only allow two school children in at any one time (which is understandable) and if you turn to the left whilst in the queue you will see a rather large, erm, *adult* magazine section staring you right in the face. This section, of course, only caters for the men of Rawdon. Being a hardened feminist one can rise above these things, sadly it is to be expected in any standard newsy. A reasonably priced and handy (no pun - promise!) little store.

(They are on New Briggate near all the bars and take away.) Of course, there's nothing unusual about what they have inside, from chocolate, to drinks, to snacks to cigarettes, but for location and unsociable hours this place is fantastic. Basically, if I'm ever going to town and need tobacco later in the evening this place is always open. I believe they shut at 11pm, which is reasonable, but thus far I've struggled to find anywhere else open so late if I'm in need. Add to that the guy is always lovely, and you've one happy (and loyal) customer.

I was in the shop for barely 5 minutes on the phone…read morechecking what I needed to buy when she started making false accusations that I "always come in and never buy anything" despite the fact she has never even served me before usually her husband serves me. Instead she followed me around the shop glaring and treating me like a criminal before rudely throwing me out, I said what's the problem she stated that "I am the owner I can do what I want". Absolutely vile way to treat customers. Both hands were visible and had no reason to accuse me of anything.

Gah, it makes me sad to write this update having returned to the world of smokers. It takes one…read morereally bad day and *bam* you're back on the fags. I had a school teacher that called smokers "dirty black lung faggers" and every time I fail to quit those eternal words run through my mind. Even so, I was in need of some extra cigarette papers so had the chance to pop in here once more to feed my habit. Friendly service was present, as with the last time I nipped in here, and not much more of a story to report! Handy, full of the essentials and small and poky just as all good newsys seem to be. Only minor thing was that they didn't have any extra slim filter tips, and since I try not to make my rollies cigar-sized, had to survive on my remaining few tips 'till I made it back to Headingley. No real bother though, y'know. It's only fags.

I desperately want to give this place a good review as when I was buying a paper and some crisps…read morethe guy behind the till was super-friendly and we had a good chat about the weather. Being British, I thoroughly enjoy these little exchanges. But the shop was pretty empty. There weren't many chocolate bars for sale, there were a few lonely looking space ships in a plastic jar on one shelf, I don't even smoke and I noticed the empty shelves behind the till that are normally full of cigarettes. Maybe I popped in on an off-day as there aren't many other news agents like this in Chapel Allerton so it can't be doing that badly! I did notice however a huge array of magazines, so perhaps everything else is superfluous.

The main…read morepremise of my being a fan is twofold -one, it's merely 7 minutes away from my house, and two, the lady who works here is awesome. They mightn't have an excellent range of goods-you can expect the basics of most things you might need - but you can always expect a friendly welcome. All the chaps that work here provide plenty of banter, and are always friendly and helpful! In terms of basics, come here for cheap booze deals on wine, beer, spirits, cigarettes, basic bathroom items, sweets, snacks, milk, bread, drinks, pet food, cards and more. Not the cheapest, but not as ridiculous as some places, and always there when you need. Open until 10pm most nights-a little later on a Saturday I do believe. I'm a happy customer.

This post office is in a really convenient location. It's also kind of half a newsagents as well…read morewhich is useful. The only problem is often there's only one member of staff to do both the newsagent counter and the post office counter. So if it's busy you may have to wait.
