This handy little newsagents is situated on the main strip in Rawdon, which is strictly speaking…read morethe only strip in Rawdon! Considering the wilderness of retail that is Rawdon this place is really useful and well used by the locals. It sells all the usual suspects including a huge range of local and national newspapers, magazines, a range of cards, gum, tobacco, stationary, canned goods, drinks (including those super cheap but e-number-tastic little 20p cartons), chocolate, crisps and all sorts else. The staff are friendly enough although the shop has its restrictions - they only allow two school children in at any one time (which is understandable) and if you turn to the left whilst in the queue you will see a rather large, erm, *adult* magazine section staring you right in the face. This section, of course, only caters for the men of Rawdon. Being a hardened feminist one can rise above these things, sadly it is to be expected in any standard newsy. A reasonably priced and handy (no pun - promise!) little store.

After a vast magazine section and fridges of drinks and sandwiches there is a huge range of cards including some very cute easter ones, many a large box of chocolate son the shelves behind the counter and a long row of shelved near the back displaying everything from a wide range of tinned, jarred and packeted food to children's toys, home ware and stationery. If this was your local newsagent you may find yourself tempted to not leave your immediate locality...what with Wright's of Moortown down nearby meeting all your fruits and veg needs and two charity shops you could probably fill your fridge, kitchen cupboards, kid's toy box, desk drawer, magazine rack and meet most of your everyday purchasing needs in your slippers (if you felt like it)!

As a newsagents, it stocks a big selection of papers and mags, and does the standard fare in food and drink. It sells a range of grocery essentials, newspapers, magazines, cigarettes, crisps, chocolate, sweets, ice cream, greetings cards, toys and bits and bobs. The woman who works there is friendly and very helpful. It is a standard corner-shop size, and though well-stocked, if you're looking for something very specific you may have to look elsewhere, but it serves the tin of beans, paper, bread, milk and chocolate bar needs of be-slippered locals well.

This little store has got all the useful things you'd expect it to have for your perusal, a range of decent snacks and foods, sweets and chocolates, cigarettes and lottery, magazines and newspapers, drinks and that ever needed loaf of bread! The staff area pretty nice too, so everyone's a winner. Nice!

Burley Road Offy is one of those little shops that not only sells booze, newspapers, chocolate and…read morefizzy drinks like most off licence's do, they also sell a load of other random bits. For example, they sell plastic footballs, soap, shampoo, air freshener, cotton wool. . .they even had a very odd looking plastic box of hair ties and bracelets on the counter selling for 29p each. They looked suspiciously second hand and like they might have once belonged to the lady who works there. But fair enough, may as well try and make some money out of unwanted bits. The alcohol selection is vast. I even spotted a bottle of 20/20 in there, the poison of my youth. Urgh. If you don't know it's a strong fruit liqour that tastes like alcoholic fruit squash, undiluted. They did have loads of spirits and wines as well though, so if you're in the area and after some tipple for your weekend gathering.

One of my favourite things sold here is the box of old cards that I imagine have been gathering dust for a good couple of decades. They are only 30p each and some are very charming and rather specific - 'Happy Birthday Sister-In-Law' and the like. They do have a good array of booze at decent prices - I often pop in here en route to house parties. They also sell most grocery essentials, junk food and cigarettes.

It sells all of the essential local papers for the local news, information, listed sales and so on, as well as all the nationals that you might need. Their magazine collection is pretty mighty and they sell the usual suspects in sweets, drinks and little refreshments that you might imagine you should require from a little store such as this. The best thing about local newsies are their community notice boards, and this one is no exception, detailing all the local furniture up for sale, rentals and any other odds and ends and goings on! What more can I say? This place does exactly what it says on the tin - primarily, it sells news. Everything else is your usual expected bonus.

I always come in here to buy my milk as it is a little cheaper than the usual and is also locally farmed. The owner is very nice and the shop sells all the usual Newsagent culprits such as biscuits, crisps, ice creams and other sins. They also stock various bits of stationary, string, balloons and other bits if you are in a mad last minute rush to make something and haven't had time to go to a proper outlet. They also sell an unusually wide selection of magazines that you wouldn't find in other Newsagents, especially a small old fashioned looking one like this. I would guess that the free flow of students passing the shop inspired them to start stocking such magazines. Examples are Bizarre, Tattoo, ID, and a whole load of other alternative and arty wonders. I don't read much in the likes of mags, but I am always tempted to buy one when I am here., and I am sure if you are looking for a particular mag that is a bit hard to find they will have it. If not, they will order it for you.
