I'm floored by how rude these people are. I wish I'd looked at reviews before I contacted them. I didn't get the name of the person I spoke to via text, but based on the other reviews I can only assume it was the infamous Tina. Tina likes to randomly delete text messages from less than a week ago and then act confused and annoyed when you follow up a few days later, as though I was the one who deleted all the context of our conversation instead of her. You see, Tina is an unfortunate combination of mean and stupid. She lacks reading comprehension but still insists on only communicating via text, and then she will misunderstand what you wrote and get rude about it. I had two lamps needing repair. I initially contacted her about a floor lamp, a modern bridge lamp with a broken connector. She told me that part was not able to be replaced but she could sell me an antique bridge lamp base to use with my stained glass shade. I was disappointed and unsure if I wanted to do that or not, so I asked for photos. She sent over very poor photos that did not show the base in its entirety. I responded that I wasn't sure how it would all look together because I couldn't see the whole thing at once, and she cut the conversation short. Whatever, I wasn't sure what to do and I got busy so I didn't respond back right away. Four days later, I decided I should probably just buy the base, so I sent a message asking if the base was still available. I also asked if there was any way she could help with another lamp that I nearly finished putting back together, but there were a few parts that I could not quite figure out where they had gone before. Being a lamp repair business, I thought this was a reasonable request, but apparently I was wrong. I've attached those messages in their entirety. Don't even bother trying to work with these people. They will shame you for asking about lamp repair and make everything about how much money they can earn. read more

I learned the hard way that all of these negative reviews about rudeness and unprofessionalism all over the Net are true. It was with great pleasure that I told them off, even though that means I will now have to drive my lamp to San Francisco instead. If it's really so difficult to behave like a professional, get the hell out of business and take your nonsense elsewhere. This business deserves to fail. It's definitely the kind of place where I would expect if I ever did leave a lamp there to be repaired, it might be a considerable time-consuming chore getting it back from them even, or showing up one day and finding the store closed and them out of business with your lamp. **Excellent Service Once Again!** This is my second time using **The Lighting Palace**, and I couldn't be happier. Their prices are fair, and they truly know how to repair lamps the right way. **Tina** at the front desk is wonderful--she really knows her stuff and is always super friendly and helpful. Many of the reviews I read focused on "Tina" regarding her rude attitude. I want to be the next person to make a comment about "Tina". She's rude, snarky and must have some kind of personality disorder to behave rudely to a potential client. We were only able to communicate via text and her responses were not timely, often I heard back from her close to 48 hours later. The shop is not open normal hours so you have to make an appointment. The shop used to be in the 59th Street Antique Mall in east Sac and the products were great and back when I visited, one of the guys who worked at the front was very helpful. While the owner may know about vintage lamp repair, I make it a point to not give my hard earned money to ANY business that treats customers inappropriately. read more

I've just had a great experience with Tina at The Lighting Palace. First I want to say that the phone number listed for her lamp repair business is wrong. Her cell number is 916-705-3980. The listed number is for her husband's separate business (vintage advertising signs) operated from the same address. If you are seeking a lighting repair it's best to send her a text with a photo. I contacted her last week about my pharmacy lamp thinking that it was flickering because of a wiring issue. She took one look at my photo and said it was more likely to be the switch. She gave me a reasonable estimate to repair it and we made an appointment for 10 AM this morning. She had it ready in perhaps 20 minutes - she recommended I remain during the repair to avoid having to make a separate trip to pick it up. It's gratifying in this throwaway world to find knowledgeable repair people to restore valued items to use at a fair price. She was also careful to advise me in advance that she does not take credit cards. read more

The woman who runs this place is terribly rude. Evidently she complains to other shop owners in the complex that she's not making money, but with her bad attitude and very limited hours it's no surprise. It's too bad because they have some really cool stuff in the shop. Her husband was friendly the one time that I showed up and they were actually open. If you're only open 11-4 Wed-Fri while most people are at work, you're probably not going to get much business. read more

This used to be the "go to" for vintage chandeliers, repairs etc. not sure if ownership change but woman running the shop today was berating a customer on the phone when we walked in, then berated us for asking if they had replacement parts including brackets. Could not even get a question in without her then wanting to know who our electrician was... will not be going back after using them for 20+ years. read more

I see plenty of other reviews with this score remarking on the owners unprofessionalism and rudeness. I am in that boat, and frankly baffled by any review higher. The one star can be credited completely to the selection there, which, while beautiful, is not worth the unwelcoming nature encountered by the staff. I am not certain if the attendant-on-duty was the owner or not, but I hope not for the sake of the store. Completely rude and unhelpful. We were browsing, but we have a very old antique chandelier in our home that is a candidate both for for repair and replacing. We would have been an ideal, and probably quite expensive, sale. However, the woman on shift neither listened nor cared to our conversation, and the most she said to us was to deny us the sale of replacement crystals because they use them to make chandeliers. Of course, these pieces are stocked in an open container right next to the door-- prime sales space. Instead of offering us a place to go to buy replacement crystals or engaging us on our issue in order to sell us a new chandelier, she strutted about acting as though customers were her biggest daily burden. Now, I have been in customer service for years at high end retailers who expect nothing less than the best. I know better than anyone what it's like to have to go to work when you're having a poor day. However, I also know you leave that stuff at the door and help customers like you give a care. Every time I went in to check on progress an employee said I would have to come back when Tom was there. Literally years of going in and either they were closed or a woman took my information (yet again) and said Tom would call me. NO CALL. Never returned calls. Caught him leaving on Saturday and he informed me he has no obligation to contact ME. I am supposed to contact HIM. Drove off in his big new expensive van. Repairs review: Basically: Tina is a trip. Doesn't write down anything a client says, as if clients have no idea what we're talking about. Way over quotes a simple wiring job, suffers from price inflation. When her mistakes are corrected she just decides not to help anymore. ------------ Brought in a midcentury lamp, clearly explained what was broken to Tina. Was given a unreasonably high quote for a simple rewire and socket tightening, told that the parts I'll need run $50 a pop (checking online, the said parts actually cost $10), and started listing all the things on my lamp they DON'T repair (none of which was broken, btw). She didn't listen to me or write anything down. I was told I'd get a call with the actual price, which never happened. I called a week later to see if they had had a chance to look at it and told they'd already started working on it. Seeing as I'd not agreed on a price for rewiring I expressed surprise and was told I'd get a call back. Tina leaves me a VM telling me it's a $25 fee to even look at the lamp, and that they have to fix it before they can quote me a price, and by the way, they're doing a complete rehaul of my light, even replacing parts that aren't broken Then I get a call that they discovered a broken socket that I know wasn't broken when I brought it in. I let her know that the 3rd socket was brought in broken, not the 2nd. If the 2nd is broken then the shop broke it. She tells me to come get my lamp, because she resents the accusation. What she SHOULD have done was double check the repair ticket, but wait: she never wrote anything down to begin with. She also should have double checked with the repair guy about which socket was broken, which she didn't do until after we got off the phone. She admitted later she was incorrect, the 3rd socket was dead. I told her that when I brought it in. I go to pick up my lamp and am told that they are unable to make repairs and oh by the way the lamp is completely dead, and dangerous. She also asks me to apologize to her... I remind her that the whole debacle could have been avoided if she had simply written down what I said was wrong with my lamp. I ask to speak to Thomas, who does repairs, I want to know what they did and what specifically is wrong with my lamp. No lamp is unwireable. She refuses to let me into the shop, and tells me she NEVER writes anything down. Oh, and they never wanted to work on my lamp in the first place. Hmmm... I take my lamp apart and discover they installed the wrong sockets, replaced the porcelain sockets with cheap plastic. Don't waste your time with Tina. Thomas was my go-to for lamp repair, unfortunately not anymore, oh and I'm banned from their store ‍ Oh well. read more

The lady that greets you is very rude. I came in to the shop looking for a part for my lamp. She wanted to sell it to me without me bringing in the lamp to make sure it fit, then she told me too bad if it didn't I would be stuck with it as they would not return it. I have never gone to a business where someone is so rude and not helpful. Their lamps and shades are also significantly overpriced! Anyone that thinks about stopping there should think again! Unprofessional: They called me to increase the estimated price of my lamp repair by $100.00 after I dropped the lamp off and when I decided the repair wasn't worth it they charged me $20.00 out of nowhere. I took two 60's lamps there to be fixed. The owner got tangled in the cords and dropped one. There was minor damage to the base. HOWEVER, the owner had the nerve to charge us for parts to the base when she had dropped it. Very Bad business. Terrible experience at the Lighting Palace. We are remodeling our bathroom and needed new bathroom sconces for our vanity's. We met a sales consultant at the door in which he showed us what they had in stock. Nothing we wanted for the look we we're going for. We looked through a catalog, told him the color we want and agreed on a price. Paid and he said they would be in within 7-10 days. Once we unboxed the lights we were greeted with an all chrome light when we were insured the color ordered was brushed nickel to match the other fixtures. When we tried to return them, they said the only way they could take them back is if they charged us a 25 % restock fee. I was shocked! They ordered the wrong color, but yet this is somehow the buyers fault? Buyers beware... I would not recommended the lighting palace to anyone. We will take our business to an online retailer where they don't play games like these. read more

Very concerned. My mother and I went in there to look around and my mother was shocked by a hanging live wire. The person working there told us she was just going to the back to adjust the wire which was obviously not true because she was sitting at the front when we first walked in. She then tried to minimize it after running back to the store where my mom and I were saying it's just scary to be shocked but it doesn't do anything. UNWELCOMING!!! We decided to check this place out after having a nice brunch at Evans. I was intreated with the stores vintage coke signage and decided to step in. To my Suprise our moods were set to change and set the tone for the rest of the day. No acknowledgment while entering the store. Dont bother to ask questions, the woman behind the counter, Didn't bother to waste on breath of her time she much rather just thinker with the project she was working on. Small business is a tough industry to break through in if you don't have great customer service. We had no intentions of purchasing today, but i did the idea to tell a couple friends about this place. This area is filled with antique stores you have a tremendous amount of competition. I took my my mother's antique chandelier to the lighting palace for what I thought was going to be a fairly routine fix. It turned out to be an incredibly challenging project. The Lighting Palace team was amazing. They worked for weeks to fix the chandelier and were in communication with me throughout the fix. During the process the arms broke several times but they remained committed to the project. They ordered and replaced several arms at no cost to me. They have saved this precious family heirloom for us and we are very grateful. Their expertise in the repair of antique lighting is unparalleled. I highly recommend them. read more

It's a decent place, especially to buy stuff. They have lots of interesting stuff here. I took a lamp there for them to fix it. The lady there was nice but made everything (lamp repair items) seem like it was special and more valuable than it is. I have a strong technical background and know this stuff is cheap, common, and easily manufactured... in China! Either that or she made the work seem complex and/or difficult. Again, the structure/design of lamps is crazy simple. I only took it there because: 1- It shipped to me in disrepair and the seller was to pay for the repair based on the receipt. 2- I didn't have extra lamp tube/rod around to do it myself. The guy there (her husband, I think) was pretty courteous and straight forward in his dealing. He's the reason I didn't rate the place 2 stars. I picked up my lamp. Their part time repair guy hadn't done much of anything to it but adjust the tube, leaving 3 (hopefully!) or so screw threads holding the thing together at either end. I showed the male shopkeeper this and he charged me a lot less for the work. The repair guy really should have taken it apart and installed a longer rod. read more

I won't use the company again. The charged double what they charged me previously, then argued about. Then they never called me that my lamp was ready, then argued that it was not ready when it was. Need a part for an old lamp. Found them listed under "lamp parts" I needed to try to match the broken part with a new one. So I drove there to do that. Upon my arrival there were 2 people outside talking, not a big deal, I go in the store wonder around for a bit didn't see anyone working, actually didn't see anyone at all. I look around a bit more then walk back outside to find the same 2 people still talking, the woman says to me "I'll be there in a minute", Ok figured she was busy. After about 10 more minutes I walk back out front they are still talking, she looked at me and asked what I wanted, I showed her the part I needed she says "we don't sell parts" I said "you are listed on Google as lamp parts" she says "I don't know why" then turned around and walks away. The socket in an older brass lamp I've had for years failed. Changing a socket is usually simple, but not in this case,. After more than an hour of frustration, I brought the lamp to the Lighting Palace, a referral from a friend. Picking up the lamp a week later, I was happy to see that the new socket matched the original perfectly. These guys love lamps and talk about them enthusiastically. They specialize in repairing and restoring antique lamps and also handle consignments. When you go in, take time check out their ornate and beautiful lamps. read more

I just took a floor lamp here for a power cord problem. Tom greeted me as I crossed the parking lot and offered to fix my problem on the spot. He cut off the bad section, reattached the plug, and offered to let me go no charge. I insisted that he take a ten spot for his trouble. This business is consistently inconsistent . Business ethics very poor. Store hours change week to week. Earlier this month I had an awful experience. I was browsing for a fun lamp. Very disappointed .. Women salesperson was rude and very uninterested in being helpful at any level. Prices outrageous (your old stuff is not in vogue, style or trend - stale at best). The lady who seems like she is the boss is super rude. She treats customers as if they are bothering her. When I walked in, she was already helping a couple so I waited for her or the other employee to finish. She immediately dual tasked and said "Yes" which was I guess her desire to say can I help you. I asked for if they carried a certain product of which they did not have yet she proceeds to show me all the regular versions of that product that carry and named them all, in unnecessary detail, all the while then ignoring the customers she had already. I then inquired about a valuable antique they were selling for several thousand dollars which was priced at the market value. I said I remember when I was a young man how common they were as they only cost a couple to several hundred dollars but I still like them. She said "I don't want to hear it. If I had a penny for everyone who comes in with some kinda story like that, I'd be rich!" and then walked off with original customer she interrupted helping to "assist" (that is a stretch saying that BTW). If you hate your job, quit. Otherwise I think she should look into stand up comedy, teaching kindergarten or being a suicide prevention representative because she has a real gift in empathy and treating others with kind courtesy. He took time to explain valuations to me and what I can search for in my own antiqueing; she took time to advise me on how to save money on a repair. She does all the buying and has a great eye. Was referred to this store because I needed a small crystal lamp repaired (or so I thought). The owner (Patrina?) took much care to check the base for me and was able to fix the lamp by tightening the base. She painstakingly but it back together for me and declared that their was no charge. This store has unique vintage lighting and other items you will just not find anywhere else. I could spend all day in this store. If you are looking for unique quality fixtures and so much more, you must check this store out. It is hard to find a lighting place which does repairs, much less one which is so accommodating. I was very happy to discover this lamp repair business. I discovered them via Yelp while looking for places who work with antique lamps (they are not easy to find). Prior to the holidays, I brought 2 antique lamps in so they could assess the repair needs. Tom was very knowledgeable, pleasant and helpful and was able to re-wire the lamps. He was also able to refer me to someone who could hand-repair the beautiful celluloid shade on one of them. The wiring and shade repairs turned out beautifully. If I ever need their services again, I will go back. Glad I gave them a try for myself and ignored the few not-so-glowing reviews. read more
