Felicia has far exceeded my expectations. Working with her, I've learned more about the intricacies of my own body and how to look within to find different colors, textures, and resonance. She's so much more than just a music teacher. She's an explorer and detective, helping me uncover my own voice and capabilities. There are moments when I'm in awe of the sound coming out of my mouth and even say out loud, "Where did that come from?!" I've also struggled with tension in my voice, neck, and shoulders, and vocal care is something Felicia is deeply passionate about. As someone who's dealt with performance anxiety, I used to feel safer "hiding" behind an instrument. Singing has always felt much more vulnerable. But lately, I've had the courage to sing for friends and family. I'm finally starting to trust that I'll get to a place where I can perform in front of a crowd with confidence, no longer feeling the need to have something shield me. I've worked with many musical teachers over the years, and Felicia is nothing short of amazing. Highly recommend!

I have always had a great passion for singing and have performed in musicals from a very young age…read more When I was a junior in high school, however, I was diagnosed with a vocal injury due to unsupported singing throughout the years. After getting the recommendation from my choir teacher, I began working with Felicia Betts shortly after my diagnosis. Felicia did an excellent job at building my voice back up and helping me overcome my fears post injury. She helped me find my sound again and also gave me a lot of tools in order to prevent injury again in the future. In addition, Felicia is very helpful when it comes to audition prep and guided me through my college auditions. I am now a freshman receiving my BFA in musical theatre and my voice is the healthiest it's ever been. I am so grateful for everything Felicia has taught me and would highly recommend her to anyone looking for lessons.

What he offers his students is very unique--a chance to really build your voice from scratch, understand and utilize proper technique, and go beyond what you think you're capable of doing. John's method is comprehensive and he explains what the process is every step of the way. It definitely seemed a bit unusual to me at first, because I hadn't heard singers do exercises like his before, but the results were undeniable. The improvement was noticeable right away, but the results only got better with time. It's worth it to stick with it for a long time to get the most out of it. His "voice-building" technique really works on a fundamental level, completely building great technique from the ground up. My projection, dynamics, pitch, breathing, sustain, and overall technique had a dramatic transformation for the better. I also didn't realize just how much it was possible to increase vocal range, but John's method will dramatically increase range. I can now consistently hit notes that I didn't think I was capable of before. I really can't imagine that you'd get these kinds of results from just any old vocal instructor. I did lessons for two years and consistently improved. The only reason I stopped doing lessons with him was because I moved away, otherwise I'd likely have continued for quite awhile. Highly recommended.
