Sadly, there's no option for zero stars; otherwise I'd be happy to award this toxic waste site of a channel that badge of (dis)honor. By now, most people familiar with the misnamed "reality" TV genre and its excesses recognize the role TLC played in promoting the image of that grotesque freak show called the Duggar family ( 19 Kids and Counting) as just a charming albeit somewhat eccentric embodiment of wholesome traditional Christian family values, which seem to include pedophilia, misogyny, homophobia, and a host of other bigotries. Even after Josh Duggar admitted to molesting underage girls (including siblings) between 2002 and 2003 when he himself was a minor ( details of court suppressed by the family), TLC cancelled 19 and Counting but essentially kept the show going under a 2.0 iteration called Counting On, until that too was cancelled after Josh Duggar was convicted in 2021 on possession of child porn charges. The same pernicious idea of "modesty culture," which places the blame for sexual misconduct almost exclusively on women who stray outside the rigid code of behavior befitting a Good Christian Woman (or Girl), was still very much a part of the ethos promoted by the Duggar clan. Big props to TLC for helping promote the ugliest and most regressive features of American culture. I wanted to give this channel a better review, but lately, and especially, I can't get through a show without endless commercials, many of which are too disturbing to watch (such as for Dr. Pimple Popper with graphic and disgusting images), so I then need to change the channel and it ruins the show for me since I usually get involved in another channel. Some of the shows that I did like are getting very hokey, such as 90-day Fiancé and seems to me that these situations are very set up and manufactured.
