The owners care about kids and are always trying to improve the environment. I worked there for a year and a half. Mark and Julia are the owners and work as a well balanced team. They think of amazing projects and I've seen many instances of them helping families who are struggling. They have a loyal parent base and so many animals (don't worry, it's very clean) and plants! It's like going to school in a nature conservatory in some ways :) If your child is shy, it really helps to have fish and lizards and other animals to look forward to seeing every morning. read more

My child attended TLC for 2 years. We met with the director and we were pleased about the philosophy of creating a challenging environment of learning and curiosity. This is not what I have experienced in the last 9 months. My child is very active and smart at four she can count to 100 on her own and is reading. She started to act out in class being more physical with the teachers and kids. I was informed that she was doing this and was very concerned. She is not at all physical at home. I was in the director's office repeatedly and was rest assured that it was a phase she would grow out of it. At 4.5 she is still in the class and is incredibly bored. She was forced into nap time (something she hasn't done for a year) on a mat for 2 hours this caused her extreme frustration naturally. Being potty trained and knowing when to use the bathroom she was only taken to the toilet 2 times in a day. She was denied being taken to the bathroom other times because the teachers needed to be in the classroom and she now holds it in and has accidents because she is afraid to tell anyone because of the reaction of needing to go not within the scheduled time. I approached the director about moving her into a more challenging class and he told me "sure, we are just waiting on ratios". I waited for 5 months and found out that younger children were moving up. I asked about this a bit upset, I was told my daughter was "immature and unintelligent". I offered to come in one hour a day to help with her behavior and was advised not too as it would be "rewarding" her outbursts. I dropped her off on a Monday and she had not even been there an hour and I received a call "come and get her, I can't do this anymore - the hitting and kicking. I'm done". This sounded very absolute I asked "is this a permanent thing, she can't come back?" The response was "I need to think about it." I called later that day and asked about a refund so if I need to find another school I can make the deposit. I was told by the co-director that Mark would call me back because he was in charge of billing. I did not receive a call back. I needed to have a place to put my daughter during the day and made arrangements at another school. I called Friday and asked Mark about the refund. He denied kicking her out; told me I had removed her but he wouldn't charge me for the next month due to the contract terms. I received a package on Friday with a letter stating this also and a paragraph suggesting I get professional help for her. The behavior sheet I received did not mention anything about hitting or kicking and the teachers comments on the day she was expelled only indicated that she left early. Her new school has done a professional evaluation on her and has found her to be highly intelligent and placed her in the kindergarten class. She is having no behavior issues and she is happier at the end of the day. Overall I think the teachers are poorly trained and not qualified to teach and Mark will give you the feeling that he is listening to you but in actual reality he just wants you out of his office and has no intention of treating your child as an individual. read more
