The nutrition major is among the best in Massachusetts. In the pre-engineering major, students study engineering for two years and have guaranteed admission to WPI and UMass Lowell for their junior and senior years. Bio, Biochem, and Nutrition students have a strong community. There is a Pre-Health Advising Club led by Dr. Shelli Waetzig for students on the pre-PA and MD tracks. The nursing major is a two-year program for people who have an associate's degree in nursing and want a bachelor's degree. According to LinkedIn, the nursing program's graduates work at the Massachusetts General Hospital, Brigham and Women's Hospital, and the Boston Children's Hospital.  The rest of the departments are not good. The salary for computer science graduates at Framingham State is pretty low at ~$50k. Even the professors do not send their kids here. Socially, there is nothing to do because there is a strict prohibition of alcohol even for students who are 21 and over and because most students live with their parents.

Homework Does this…read moreschool have an effective approach to homework? There is no homework. I don't have a problem with this if there were clear communication channels around progress. There is not. Teachers Are teachers at this school effective? The school admits students with clear identifiable needs without putting in place the proper supports for them. As such there are strong behavioral outbursts that are a consistent distraction from learning and create unsafe environments for peers. Teachers are left dealing with behavioral issues instead of teaching. Character Does this school develop strong character in its students? Our son was relentlessly bullied by a student who is still there. When the student moved into another classroom the following year the same situation began with those students. Half the board pulled their kids out of school as did we. This child was threatening to bring a gun to school and was pointing at who he planned on shooting. The administration was notified and he was back at school the next morning as if nothing happened. That was one of many incidents. The fact that 5 families pulled their children, families who were active board members and large donors should tell you enough. Save yourself the aggravation. When you are looking for a quality private school I encourage you to pass this one over. Leadership Does this school have effective leadership? The leadership accepts students as they apply. They are looking to fill seats as the school itself is under financial strains. They have combined classes and eliminated "specials" to attempt to remedy this. The multi age classroom will be sold to you as a model they stand behind but I assure you it is simply because enrollment is down because of its reputation and they have had no choice but to combine classes. Learning Differences Does this school effectively support students with learning differences? They will admit students with any learning difference but that is where it ends. No supports are put in place that are specific to any need. The lack of supports leads to frustrated students and distracting behavioral outbursts that are not only distracting to other students but they detract from the learning process. Bullying Does this school effectively deal with bullying? Please see my above statement. It is outrageous what happens in this school around bullying. Children were staying home and missing school because of the severe anxiety that was induced by the behaviors of other children that were explained away and minimized. It has been 2 years since we left and I am still working to undo the emotional damage my son went through while attending that school. The other numerous families that left are all in the same boat. Systemic bullying changes the fabric of who you are. School should be a safe space. Particularly a private school that states clear guidelines around bullying. The issue is they don't stand behind them.

Even so, she auditioned and got accepted to advanced ensembles (with two local youth orchestras), playing with full symphony orchestras ever since she was at age eight. When she started WHS, she was a very good player, but no way exceptional like kids from musical families and she noticed the differences herself. However, three years later, our daughter is assessed to be on a soloist and chamber musician track with composition to boot. During the time she has been at WHS, she was given so many opportunities to the music world outside school, such as NEC Prep YPO, Honors Chamber, CHIPS, and collaboration to lead orchestra part in professionally produced operas live with music establishments like Boston Lyric Opera and also has her composition works performed not only at school, summer camp (senior division), but also aired on NYC Public Radio, WQXR, showcased as a young artist. For a high school student, that certainly is unbelievable! Seeing our daughter flourishing into a confident, accomplished young lady, we know without the care and dedication from WHS's beloved faculty members, it probably would have happened at all! You are transformed into a critical thinker, a knowledge seeker, an intellectual, and a man or woman of great confidence in yourself. It is an unparalleled school filled with amazing faculty, students, opportunities, research, community spirit, school spirit, and thrist for truth. Being a science major at a catholic college was something that was always a challenge. I think that I am a more aware scientist in the fact that I know some things can't be explained with science alone. I am in graduate school right now at Northeastern University, and I am prepared for the all the challenges ahead both in school, and in life. He was four years old when he started, so preparation for kindergarten and socialization with other preschoolers was key. I have seen him gain so much self condidence and independence. He runs in his classroom each day eager to meet his friends. It is so cute to see. At the end of the day, he is never ready to leave. He's having so much fun. This is our last month at Shrewsbury Children's Center and I will miss the all teachers and staff. I sent my son to this day care when he was 8 months- 2 years of age…read more In that time, he was in the infant room and toddler rooms. The infant room provided him so much love and care. I requested that they help him go down for naps, that they feed his bottles at specific times and temps. They had him napping and potty training starting at 15 months in the toddler room and he has grown to be a wonderfully tempered and independent boy thanks to them. I have to say, this center may be one of their newer centers, but they have their policies and procedures set in place. Pros: Full time care for working parents Tuition is flexible based on the days and hours that you need The teachers are warm, caring and supportive. The facilities and playground are new and gorgeous Extracurricular activities for kids like painting, movement, music, etc. Cons: Sometimes there can be teacher turnover (but because their center is so well run, the children may notice the changes. They just really need structure and routine in their daily lives) Location The center director and assistant director are really great at communication and if the center was better located for my family, I would have considered staying.
