When I paid the receptionist I assumed I…read morewould come back to the place of business for my practice but I got a phone call the morning of while waiting 15 minutes after nine. My appointment was at 9:00am. Following the practice I got a call from the receptionist I spoke to before in person, reminding me I had a road test TOMORROW. The day I got the call was Thursday so I show up Friday morning 8:00am. While waiting a Brazilian woman walks past asking my name I tell her and tell her why I'm there while she rudely replies we don't have road test on Friday YOU HAVE practice today , so I tell her I was told to be here yesterday for the following day and she replied rude again that Friday is practice and road tests are on saturdays and walks away. Just disorganized and ignorant assuming I was there by my own stupidity and continuing to be aggressively rude about it ,after I explained myself and walking away with her nose up.

This school markets itself as inclusive, but it shows otherwise. It's run almost entirely by…read morenondisabled people, HR and the CEO, majority of the administrators are not deaf or people of color. It shows in the culture: access is inconsistent, accommodations are treated as optional, and disabled voices are pushed aside. Only selected few are spotlighted as a form of tokenism. These issues aren't new. The school has a long history of racism and ableism that continues to shape how deaf students, staff, and families are treated. When concerns are raised, they're dismissed instead of addressed with real accountability. Families deserve to know these patterns are ongoing. Deaf people, especially those who are also people of color, queer, deserve better than a school culture that refuses to change and apologize to those who they have caused harm to.

My son attended Zebra Robotics' Minecraft Coding Camp for one week this past summer, and he really…read moreliked it. It was the first time he had done any sort of camp that wasn't the more typical summer camp model of running around, swimming, big group games, etc., and at the end of the week when I asked him if he'd like to go back to Zebra, he gave a pretty emphatic yes. One thing that I really liked was that his instructor didn't keep him locked into the coding part, and let him explore some of the other programs that they offer. We're planning to enroll him in the after school program that's offered this year.
