The Langham Melbourne was a welcoming, beautiful and hospitable hotel. Truly an elegant oasis and felt as if you were in London. While the check in workers were less than attentive, the stunning hotel, amenities and clean, beautiful rooms made up for it. The Langham was conveniently located just by the main bridge, that takes you into the main city just outside of china town. It was the perfect spot for walking and exploring the city. The star of the show here was the breakfast. The made to order egg bar was delicious and the fresh waffles and pancakes, avocado bar, fresh juices and perfectly cut and displayed fruit were delectable. The Langham priorities health, and the breakfast showed just that. Of course, you can enjoy sweets, a chocolate tower, and ice cream at breakfast, too! Waters were regularly available and the house keepers were so detailed and attentive. The spa and spa decks were beautiful, too. read more

Absolutely beautiful hotel. Came for afternoon high tea and left with beautiful memories. The hotel is gorgeous walking in, and the high tea was upstairs next to the dining area. There was a vast assortment of tea to select from and the tiers of food was delicious and all locally sourced by the chefs. 20 years ago today, I stayed 3 nights at this hotel. It was amazing but.... something terrible occurred. I had tackled a rather questionable seafood platter at a food truck 10 minutes away all on my own, and I had taken out my stomach troubles in the hotel bathroom. In other words, the beautiful white tiled walls were no longer visible past the brown and red pigments of my diarrhoea. I never told staff, and I ended up leaving the hotel without addressing nor cleaning the issue. If Dianna is still working there, tell her I'm sorry. However, I can't promise that it won't happen again. Just booked in another reservation for February next year and hope to rekindle the spark of that long gone memory. Oooooh boy I loved staying here! Everyone was very nice and polite checking in and out of the hotel. Entering the main floor there eis a beautiful fountain followed by an exquisite staircase with fresh pink flowers. Definitely take photos! There is a fun pink telephone booth to take pictures with on the lobby level and I was greeted with some welcome fruit and water in the room because of AmEx which was nice. They also have cute pink bicycles outside as well as a cute store. Every time I called for ice (to ice my knee) they were very fast and prompt. Sent out some laundry to and four hours later it was pretty much ready which was amazing! I went up to the 25th floor and they must have set it up for a conference because it wasn't that great at the time being... It's also in a great location on the water and central to everything. This place is worth staying at for the breakfast alone. It's a buffet breakfast but they have an omelette station (or however you want to make your eggs) but the best part is they have a juice bar where you can pick all the fruit and veggies you want and put it in a juicer and make your own juice! For me, that was really cool as I do not have my own juicer at home and it allowed me to experiment each morning trying different types of combinations. The room was lovely with a view of the city and the bridge with the Merry Christmas sign at the time. There was a fully stocked snack bar and bar which was cool, but I did not use and they had an extra converter plug which was nice in case you forget yours, an umbrella to use if you need, bathrobe and slippers, and even an old school telephone holder which was a different touch. I did not get to explore the club which was disappointing but maybe next time. The restaurant/bar at night was good though the service was slow (but the burger and wine was very tasty) and they had the buffet open for dinner which to me does not look like it is worth the $150 they charge you for it. (I snuck in and looked around at the food they were serving. I've seen better for your bank in Vegas) This was a great place to stay during the week that I was here and I would stay here again! read more

For many years, this was our "go to" hotel in Melbourne. The location right next to the Yarra Review is lovely, and if you get a River View room (highly recommended) the views are spectacular. Plus, the proximity to the National Gallery of Victoria, the Symphony, and so much else is exceptional. For all these reasons, we happily stayed here for many years. Post-pandemic, this hotel is sadly in need of some repairs and upgrades and our most recent visit in May 2022 was quite disappointing. The service was not good, on any level, with us having to call multiple times for really simple things. Our television simply stopped working and we couldn't get this addressed and finally just decided it wasn't worth pestering the front desk about. And more significantly, our hotel room had a distinct mildew smell that I can only assume was possibly the result of this place having been largely out of service and the rooms closed for months on end during the many and lengthy lockdowns in Melbourne due to Covid. Because I do hope to see this place return to its former glory, and I have really enjoyed staying here in the past, I simply cannot bring myself to give them less than 3 stars. I hope my last visit was a temporary aberration and it will be back to its former self soon. read more

Ive only been here a few hours and I've had a ball. 5 stars from me just with that. I know the rest of my time will just be as excellent or indulgent. I purchased the exec package at a great rate. If you want top service but cut other costs to compensate,I highly recommend it. It gave me access to the Executive lounge, which proves a great afternoon tea, attentive service (cudos to Sean) with a brilliant view by a window gazing at Melbourne city from the 24th floor. I didn't need to do the high tea.... 24 floors up was high enough. I left the hotel for a walk along Southbank and came back a couple hours later to have drinks and canapés. Each little dish was beautifully presented and was so tasty. Gnocchi, dim sum, quinoa salad, fish n salsa just a few things on offer. I had my fill, so there was no reason to spend more going out for dinner, which I think I would have felt a bit disappointed with if I had. The standard had been set. The exec package gave me 3 pressed shirts included. Excellent. I was ready for the evening. House keeping was super fast. Well done team!! After a great afternoon and evening all I really needed to do was to go for a walk and get my hot jam doughnuts. For some reason, that's my punctuation in Melbourne. Trip complete. Ha. I came back to my room where my bed had been turned down by the Langham elves. I didn't see them but I could see the hints they had been busy. Even left me slippers by the bed. The bed is generous in all areas. I actually can't wait to go to sleep. I know it will be deep and satisfying. The only big decision I need to make now before nodding off will be.. do I just have a great breakfast in the Executive lounge.... or do I pay an extra $15 and do the full on buffet in the restaurant below. The Langham is amazing from the minute you step out of the car for the valet parking to the time you check out its a most enjoyable place to stay. The staff are very friendly and more than happy to help you, they are very courteous and attentive. The rooms are a generous size and the bathroom is all marble and very nice on the eye. The beds are wonderful like big clouds that hug you and the room fittings are very nice also. We had the executive club package which includes afternoon tea and pre dinner drinks. Both were very nice and the staff are eager to serve you. We had breakfast at the Melba restaurant and had the buffet breakfast and it was very nice with a huge selection of food to choose from. The Langham although a bit more expensive than most hotels is worth the money especially for that special person or anniversary/Birthday to celebrate and you won't regret it. I'll be back for sure. read more

We had a nice stay here but were pretty underwhelmed in many ways. Best parts: Location, views, in-room dining, day spa Okay parts: Service (hit or miss, person to person, hour to hour) Worst parts: Expensive (if you want the room pen, for example, they'll charge you $20, small bottled water is $12), The Melba buffet restaurant (which was insanely overcrowded and expensive and not intimate and loud with kids and queues) is the only real dining option which was not ideal for a couple looking for a bit of a getaway. My recommendation if you want to come here. Book a river side view as high up as possible, check in early, enjoy the health centre facilities, use the in-room dining (they'll bring you a three course meal/dining table to eat by your amazing window view, or even just oysters), and head out somewhere in Southbank for a night out. Also there's an IGA right next door, just buy your basic supplies (water, fruit, wine) there and save yourself a few hundred bucks. read more

This was one of the best hotel experiences we've had. The hotel and room had an historic feel, definitely not modern. The bed and pillows were very comfortable. Shower was nice with plenty of water pressure. The breakfast bar was off the charts. It had pretty much everything one could ask for, and the food was fresh and tasted great. It was the highlight of each hotel day. The pool and hot tub were enjoyable. The pool was really designed more for swimming laps. There wasn't an area to just lounge and cool off. The hot tub was very spacious and had great strong jets, which I really enjoyed. Many hotel spa jets are weak and provide no benefit except visual bubbles. The proximity to the CBD and local riverfront restaurants was ideal. We would definitely stay here again. read more

Opulent surroundings, were everywhere, not really my style, but lots of gold and warm colours, that weren't that harsh on the eye. The service was impeccable as one would expect from this 5 star hotel, we had a great room overlooking the CBD. Our room included free, high tea, and free pre-dinners drinks and snacks. After a visit for the high tea in the afternoon, we decided against the pre-dinner drinks, the space that high teas was served seemed at odds with the whole experience, almost an after thought, the food and service was great though. Our pre-dinner drinks were in the Aria bar , again a true 5 star experience. Lovely Hotel On arrival our room was not ready, but when I told them I was due to go to hospital they not only found us a room but also had a member of staff escort us to the room. A couple of days later my husband upgrade the room which was really nice on the club floor. We had lots of room service with our stay and always flowers and mints on the tray! This hotel is probably the best bang for your buck anywhere. I got a fantastic rate on Hotwire ($115 USD/night!) We were given a room with a view of the river. The beds are amazing, so comfortable and the bedding smelled so good. You know if there's a phone in the toilet you've officially arrived. There's even a knob in the bathroom so you can keep listening to the TV while showering. The check in, portage, bellhops etc. are all fantastic. The location couldn't be better, right on the river just 6 minute walk from Federation Square. We never had to take a cab, we could walk to everything. read more

I was here for only one night during my trip to Melbourne and I was thoroughly impressed. I'm generally not one to stay in higher end hotels, but this one hits all the marks and does it very well. The front desk staff was incredibly friendly and the room itself was very comfortable, especially the bed, and it was nice and quiet. The hotel is perfectly located along the Yarra River but it's on the opposite side of the main downtown area, which is a positive. You are just a short walk to many fun spots in downtown, including Federation Square and Flinders train station to just a couple. The Langham had really great room service which is also something that I'm not accustomed to ordering but the breakfast offerings were plentiful and hit just the spot when waking up jet lagged early in the morning. If you can splurge for a room every now and then, this is the place to do it! read more

However, I booked a room at the Langham because of the top Tripadvisor rating and my colleague's high recommendations. I was not disappointed. The lobby is tastefully opulent. The reception staff were friendly and efficient during check-in and upgraded my room without charge. My large room (1611) offered a beautiful view of the Melbourne skyline across the Yarra River,and the bed was firm and comfortable. The ritzy Langham hotel tucked away behind Southbank is famous for two different dining experiences; its afternoon tea and it's buffet lunch. Having previously tried the former I decided it was about time I completed the set and headed there for a midday graze yesterday. I arrived before noon but the restaurant (Melba) was already filling up. The dining options include a seafood buffet, an Asian/Indian kitchen, a carvery and of course a dessert bar. I started with a plate of oysters natural, spooning some soy chilli sauce from the sushi bar over them for a little extra kick. Nice. Popped back to the sushi bar for some Kingfish and prawn sashimi with a side of roe and seaweed salad. Also very good. Sticking with the seafood theme my next course was a plate of Cloudy Bay clams and crab. The clams were a little chewy and tasteless but the crab was quite good. Hit the Indian bar next - butter chicken and saffron rice, papadums and naan made to order (I asked for mine with garlic and cheese which was very tasty). By the time I got to the carvery section I was already feeling a little bloated, but I have this obscene compulsion when it comes to all you can eat buffets that forces me to try everything at least once. On that basis I piled a plate with 5 spiced roast pork, jalapeño chicken and rare wagyu beef and chowed down. The pork was delicious and cooked so well the meat practically fell apart when I stuck my fork in it. Well and truly stuffed by now but somehow there's always room for dessert, and who could say no to butterscotch brownie trifle and lychee mousse with a couple of scoops of caramel macadamia ice cream on the side? Certainly not me. Great finish - the trifle was superb. The buffet at Melba costs $89.90 on Saturday (it's cheaper during the week and more expensive on Sundays for some reason) which includes tea and coffee. With juice and a glass of very light, crisp Moscato the total bill came to around $115. Not the best value in town, but a lovely lunch complemented by impeccable service and a sweet view across the Yarra towards the city skyline. read more

5-star hotels in Australia (those I have stayed at at least) just don't seem to be created equal to 5-star hotels overseas. Sure, the Langham has all the accoutrements necessary to tick the 5-star boxes, but it just doesn't have that awe-inspiring sense of wow factor that you expect from one of the best hotels in the country. The interior is just kind of tackorama and the lounge we had a few drinks in had a stale cigarette smell clearly left over from the bad old days when you could still smoke indoors. The service here is good and the staff are friendly and amenable. It just doesn't blow me away with its awesomeness which is what I want at this price tag. read more

This beautiful hotel is conveniently located on the SouthBank of the Yarra River with lots of activities and restaurants surrounding it. We had a room facing the river and the city across the foot-bridge. Room was beautiful and clean - bathroom large and very quiet. We were here 3 nights and found it to be very convenient for exploring the city. The restaurant provides a high-end buffet with a variety of top-notch prepared hot entries, salads, veggies, cheeses, and desserts. Service and quality of food were great. I was put up here for free so I can't say I would spend the kind of money this place requires to stay here, but while here I certainly enjoyed it. Their bar was a bit lacking but the room was comfortable. Funny enough the pool area was the highlight for me. I loved lounging in the hot tub with floor-to-ceiling windows looking out across the river to the CBD and lazily watching the sun set each night. Originally the Sheraton at Southbank, this hotel's management stepped it up a bit when it became The Langham many years ago. The central location is fantastic... and the rooms, food and service are all impeccable (as you would expect from a hotel of this caliber). Beds are very comfortable too... the only thing I might fault them on is their most recently supplied bathroom amenities (i.e. shampoo, soap, etc.) - the seemingly cheap no-name brands are NOT reflective of the quality standard I'd expect here. I'm quite sure it costs mere pennies a night to put in a better quality shampoo! Aside from that minor flaw, I have enjoyed my most recent visit here. If anything is a vote of confidence in this hotel overall, perhaps it is the fact that this stay is my 30th visit to The Langham! read more

I was fortunate enough to spend a few weeks at the Langham when it was known as the Sheraton Towers Southgate and I have not experienced a better hotel ever. Impeccable service, from the car-park attendants, the concierge, front desk, to housekeeping. Great view of the city, comfortable rooms, plush comforters, pillows, etc. Magnificent pool, Jacuzzi and workout facilities. And the breakfast buffet, what can I say? International foods, from smoked salmon to Asian porridge to cater to their international clientele and cooked to order omelets with brown eggs, this place was 5-star all the way. Love the Langham's buffet. You get there via a grand staircase. The dining area feels luxurious. And the food is great. Nothing feels cheap here, yet it still feels welcoming and comfortable. Despite the myriad of first class choices, it is that naan bread that stays with me the most. The naan bread is cooked to order, on the spot, in an authentic tandoor oven. You choose your own fillings, they stick it to the wall of the tandoor, and you walk away with the most delightful naan's going. Of course there are prawns, oysters, blue swimmer crabs, steak, roast, duck, noodles, dumplings, noodles, and pasta to order, not to mention really really good salads and ice cream to mention just a few. I suppose if you ate here every night for a year you would get sick of it, but i'd love to take on that challenge. read more

I was stunned when I walked in. The X'mas tree and lights were beautiful. It was first class all the way. I recommend staying at the Club level. The Club Lounge was nice, quiet and relaxing. The staff remembers your name. Food and drinks were adequate. I particularly enjoyed afternoon tea, which was available everyday. Talk about special touches too. A complimentary dessert awaited our arrival since the trip was for a special occasion. When I asked for the sink to be unclogged, it was fixed before our return from a day excursion. However, there was a mishap with our car rental arrangement. The concierge (different from the one who did the booking) sent us to the wrong car rental agency. He was profusely apologetic, and our cab fare was reimbursed quickly. Further, we found a small box of chocolates in our room at the end of the day. It was an inconvenience, but somewhat understandable. Although the location is across the Yarra River, it is a short walk and also very close to the train station. If we return to Melbourne, we'll definitely stay there again. read more

This is the worst Langham I've stayed in. From service to amenities, it just wasn't there. The check-in and check out process were horrible. Maybe it's the cultural differences or language barrier but something was seriously off that requires attention. There was a particular receptionist that literally wanted the customers to do her job for her. For an ignorant individual she's quite assertive. I usually stay at The Langham under the AMEX fine hotels and resorts program but it's time to opt for a different brand. My room was "offline" for almost 24 hours, and the tv didn't work. I called for a duty manager twice but my calls were never returned. I wasn't offered a replacement room for the inconvenience, no concessions either. My tv replacement was watching the repair man and hotel staff perform maintenance work for hours with me in the room. Overall, it was just bad. I forgot to mention the greeter at check in, I'm guessing he's also some type of low level manager. I'm not sure how much caffeine he takes daily but he needs to calm down; he was just too intense and very fake. read more

Rooms are nice and southbank view is always scenic however I don't feel this hotel represents good value. The buffet use to be amazing, and look it probably is if people want to fill up on cheap carbohydrates. The seafood is nowhere near as nice as buffet offered at Crown Casino down the road. If you want a nice room with a view, and that is all, you'll like it here. Many other options around southbank / CBD that offer a lot more, especially the food! read more
