Hey Hyatt, guests have devices. Give them outlets to charge them!
    Gary B.

Back when the current version of the Grand Hyatt Melbourne was unveiled, I'm sure it was considered something special. While its dress circle location and imposing structure still impress, today this property is woefully out of date. Technologically, the hotel is a blast from the past, from the direct-dial buttons on the phones that don't work to the lack of power outlets anywhere useful to guests. Our suite included an imposing desk with no power points nearby and a king-size bed with just one outlet on one side, zero on the other. When I asked for a solution so we could both charge our devices within reach from bed, we were offered a power strip with a 3-foot cord -- an accessory of absolutely no use. Aesthetically, the property feels strikingly similar to the hotels and apartments we knew when we lived in Hong Kong -- in the early 2000s. Heaps of marble and chrome that would have been described as glitzy -- even glamorous -- back then. Today they just read as tacky remnants of the copy-cat look of Chinese "luxury" properties of that era. Then there's the gym. The Grand Hyatt Melbourne includes its own commercial gym that sells memberships to locals. While the size and variety of equipment are indeed impressive for a hotel, like so much else about this property, much of the machinery also appears to be from another era. Most guests who take their fitness seriously have long ago moved on to updated, smarter-designed gym gear. We are big fans of Hyatt hotels and count several Park Hyatt and Grand Hyatt properties as some our favorites around the world -- which is why we were gobsmacked at how disappointing we found the Grand Hyatt Melbourne to be. Either Hyatt as hotel operator is asleep at the switch here, or their owner-partner is too tight with the funds to keep the hotel current.

We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights. It was wonderful. It's in a perfect location and mostly everything we did was walking distance. It's very clean and they have a friendly staff. The breakfast buffet is outstanding! They have every food you could think of. I will definitely stay at this hotel again if I visit Melbourne. We stayed at a few other hotels in Melbourne, but this was by far our favorite.

For a very short work trip to Melbourne, the Grand Hyatt fit the bill nicely for my temporary home away from home. -- A regal entrance (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/grand-hyatt-hotel-melbourne?select=Z2Jus7xAozJqxb5ooe4EKA#Z2Jus7xAozJqxb5ooe4EKA) -- Spacious lobby with clean lines and a modern feel -- Strong wi-fi to get some work (and yelping) done -- Dark and cozy bar with friendly staff and large faces (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/grand-hyatt-hotel-melbourne?select=f70ku2FEilQxPbCl4c8QNg#hZxFBdc3I0xf9i8fMpSryQ) -- Delicious buffet breakfast My only issue here was getting my initial room on the back side of the noisy elevator. After 5 minutes of "rumbling" noises I knew it wouldn't work. But switching rooms was no problem at all. (Good thing I hadn't unpacked much). Easy peasy. I hope to stay here again, and maybe for more than 3 days. That flight is a killer!

Really enjoyed my stay here. Was in town for a wedding, staying with my boyfriend. Our room was not huge but well appointed. The full wall of windows overlooked a basketball court and some buildings downtown. The neighborhood has lots of great restaurants nearby. What really stood out to me, though, was the service. Against my better judgement I plugged my American hair straightener into the outlet in the restroom, and it promptly melted. As quickly as the metal plates sunk into the plastic, my mood started to melt! I needed to touch up my blowout before going to the wedding, where I was meeting my boyfriend's extended family. I called downstairs, and the woman said they had a straightener available, if no one else was using it. I explained my predicament, and it was brought to my room within 15 minutes. The Hyatt saved my hair, my day, and, at least for that night/week, my relationship!

We had a great stay at the Grand Hyatt for our two nights. A few service hiccups that were resolved, but the one that really stands out was the night shift running check-in, who almost went out of their way to make our experience miserable. The first front desk agent shouldn't have been in a position that requires guest interaction, and the manager was pretty inept as well. After 10 hours on the road to get there, we didn't feel like dealing with it anymore. Fortunately the next morning was fabulous... I mean as literal and figurative as "night and day" can mean. We were directed to speak to the concierge/agent assigned to handle Diamond guests, and Mona was outstanding, being very concerned with our experience the previous night, and thoughtfully taking care of us and those service issues, making sure the rest of our stay was memorable (which it was). We only wish she was working when we had arrived! Even the regular front desk staff during the day were great. The breakfast at Collins Street was very substantial, definitely worth a stop if you need a hearty start to your day. Otherwise the hotel is in a great location, within walking distance to many restaurants, including Chinatown. So first night notwithstanding, it was a great stay. Hopefully we can come back and give that "excellent" rating once the front desk is consistently good, day or night.

Loved my stay at the Grand Hyatt. Excellent location in the heart of the CBD, with plenty of shopping, restaurants and coffee within walking distance. The gym is also top notch. If you're looking at the Park Hyatt vs the Grand Hyatt, I highly recommend the Grand. It's more posh/modern and less stuffy. It also has a far better location and amenities.

Two eggs any style with sides. SO YUM!

Fantastic location and fantastic stay. Other than the fact that I wish they had more spa options and a spa facility specifically, I can't complain. Everyone was nice, check-in was easy (we were upgraded) and my requests were totally met. Also, the gym is AMAZING. I actually worked out on vacation! Okay...once...but I did it. Love this Hyatt and loved my stay!

Friendly staff and service. Hotel is kept clean and the location is amazing as it is near the central city shopping district. The breakfast buffet was delicious. I especially liked their dessert platters that can be shared while sipping on a hot cup of mocha.

Bars of chocolate at reception, a glass jar full of sweets in your room (which, might I add is FREE and gets refilled everyday!), bon bon shaped pillows and liquorice allsorts stools. We were there for a conference and every day our meeting room was restocked with test tubes full of jellybeans and plates of brightly hued macaroons - seriously dangerous for someone weak willed like myself. Sweet treats aside, this hotels ticks all the boxes for me - handy central location, friendly and professional staff, sizeable rooms and heavenly pillows. The only negative for me was the lack of plugs bedside - where is one supposed to charge their phone? I only got back from Australia on Monday but I've already been singing the Aldelphi's praises to my friends. Hopefully I'll be back soon!

The hotel is also close to Swanston Street, one of the main streets in CBD. My room was a decent size, and upon arrival, it was nice seeing a personalised message written on the mirror wishing me a lovely stay at the Adelphi. The best part of staying there was that all the snacks and drinks in the mini bar were FREE throughout my entire stay. And these were quality snacks and drinks. I've never seen that before in my life. It was awesome sauce. I also liked the toiletries provided. I believe the name of the brand was Apelle, and they give you a coupon code (10% off, I think) if you want to order them online. Another cool thing they did was leave a macaron next to your bed in the evening. And they were delicious macarons! The things I didn't like were that the wifi wasn't that great (it was okay, but don't expect to be able to do any streaming or heavy duty stuff.) My bed was a little bit too soft; it didn't bother me personally but for those with back problems, it might. Also, you have to walk up a flight of stairs from the street level to get to the lobby, so if you have a heavy suitcase, you're going to have to work a bit. Other than that, great location, awesome decor, and I wouldn't mind staying there again.

VERY comfortable, QUIET and RELAXING (and what more can you ask of a vacation stay?) and VERY NICE, ROOMY ROOMS. It is a PERFECT LOCATION as you can EASILY walk a couple of blocks to the AMAZING, Melbourne Museum (a must see w/their new "Native People" exhibit!), their Parliament, the Victorian State Library, several Theaters, many, historical churches and a quick, FREE tram ride to their Queen Vic Market. From the hotel, LOVED being able to walk around and see the incredible number of relatively new architectural-award-winning , tall office/condo buildings interspersed with historical landmarks/stores! While we were here, the only aggravation that we had was that we apparently got the last few bottles of the PLASTIC, SEALED, BOTTLED AT THE SPRING/sourced, sealed water bottles! What this Marriott now uses for the rooms is a VERY SLIM, TALL GLASS bottle (Unfortunately easy to knock over in the middle of the night on your nightstand!) - and it says ON THE BOTTLE - BOTTLED AT THE HOTEL! WHAT?!?!? Complained to the hotel management about this and they mentioned it is on "sustainability" standards of the corporate Marriott parent in the U.S. Not surprised that Marriott corporate (located in the U.S.), went a little crazy w/their "woke" standards. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY a "green" decision of Marriott corporate that thinks this INCONVENIENCE of having a TALL, OPEN, GLASS bottle sitting on the nightstand is a good idea! Trust me, the planet will not notice if you still provided nice, sealed, PLASTIC BOTTLES - of "bottled at the source" Spring water! On the positive side, in true Marriott fashion, the staff nicely accommodated us by obtaining/providing sealed plastic bottles for us in the room, each day. Sincerely appreciated their extra attention to our needs! As to their "Executive Lounge", it is a small, enclave off the bar area and only has limited snacks of a few pastries/fruit in the AM and a couple of warm appetizers, dips, cheese/ meat laid out for the evening. Their Executive Lounge in Melbourne is less than what we experienced at the Sheraton Grand/Hyde Park in Sydney (which is another Marriott property that we frequent as Lifetime Titanium members). In the Exec Lounge here, there are NO CONTAINERS TO GO of beverages - ONLY a "communal pour fountain" and GLASS containers to drink from! Again, Marriott corporate, PLEASE consider that GUESTS DO notice that your corporate group has gone TOO "woke" and have now decided it is better to inconvenience the guests rather than expect that they will recycle a plastic or tin beverage container. (We also have executive status at Hilton and HILTON does not inconvenience their guests this way.) And, note that this Marriott has NO FLAT SHEETS for the bed! It looks like they used their Flat Sheets to make 3-sided duvet covers, but they are WAY too short! You cannot even completely cover yourself with these duvets when you lay flat! I have to UNTUCK the bottom-end of the bed so that my 6 ft husband has enough of the duvet to pull up to his shoulders. PLUS, they have no heat in the rooms! The thermostat says that it is for COOLING only and to "turn off" the unit if you want to be warmer! WHAT!?!?!!! Must be another Marriott corporate "woke" decision. On the positive side, the staff here is EXCEPTIONAL! During our almost 2 week stay, they greeted us by name and were always going out of their way to make our stay, wonderful! In particular, want to give EXTRA KUDOS to the Dining Room Mgr, Pat and her staff! EVERY morning, she and/or her VERY GREAT STAFF, would welcome us to breakfast and start our days out well by providing an EXTENSIVE BREAKFAST BUFFET (or custom-prepared items on request). It was obvious that Pat and her team (especially, Reena), take the comfort and needs of guests, very seriously and we very much noticed their hard work/dedication. Nice to see the very busy Dining Room staff, also taking the time to check on the needs of each table of guests (particularly as there were physically-challenged guests dining on several days). BECAUSE of this entire group of Marriott employees at this hotel (Hotel Mgt, Front Desk, Concierge, Exec Lounge, Phone Operators, Servers, Chefs, etc.), we will book this hotel again in the near future. This is truly a hard to find, well located, updated/modern hotel, enjoyable property combined with professional staff. Worth staying here! Thank you, Marriott!
