If you are a young single person looking for a reasonable place to live, move along. This is a group home and a geriatric ward. While legally they should not tell you this, it would have been nice to know. Now, the kids that live there are nice and fairly quiet. But, there was always that lingering thought in the back of my head that I would come home to a burned out shell of a building because one of them burned up a pizza in the oven...I guess that is part of apartment living. Part of me wants to throttle At Home Apartments for their lack of attention to maintenance and overall customer service. But, one of the individuals who I think was mostly responsible for the lack of service was let go...And, from the recent check out review received, I see he did not take good notes on our check-in back in April 2010. Just think twice before deciding the sign a lease with these folks. And from what I have been told by people who have lived in their other properties, Mission Hills was the nicest. We made it a year in a one bedroom before upgrading to a one bedroom with a study. We only upgraded for the extra room and it had a concrete deck, which meant it was legal to use a grill. The office staff were nice, but sometimes bitchy. We had others complain to us more than we had complaints ourselves. Didn't have much need to ever talk to them aside from when they found the cat we were hiding. The maintenance staff were extremely nice and quick. We called in for stuff ranging from a broken dryer to water leaks/mold in the ceiling, and I can't recall it ever going past a day before they came out. The complex itself is made up of individual buildings of 12 units, all surrounded by trees. 6 units have a wooded view (which costs extra) and the other 6 face the parking lot. The top floor apartments have vaulted ceilings, which also cost extra. The complex is very well lit and feels secure. Most of the tenants seemed to be young professionals or med students. We had a police officer in our building and another in the building next to us. We received our deposit back after we moved to another unit and when we moved out of the complex. My wife even lit the counter on fire in the second unit, but I guess they didn't mind the burn marks. We even received our pet deposit back despite the fact that we didn't tell them we had a cat, and thus didn't pay pet rent for two years. The only complaint I can think of is that since it is a complex of young professionals and med students, there are a large number of douche bag tenants, but I can't blame Hillsborough for it. I would recommend a unit with a view of the pool for any lonely males in the Mission area. Complete skinfest in the summer.

Their hallways and open areas were a lot cleaner: carpet, trash area, etc. Any maintenance orders given were typically handled that day/next day. The maintenance crew always left a message on my counter showing record that it was handled or fixed. 45 Madison has underground parking. It was convenient because it was safe, secure, and the elevator would go straight to your floor. The pool is stainless steel and was not filled with noisy kids/toys. The complex is big enough that it had two wings but small enough you knew your neighbors. The hallways are typically quiet each night and are full of professionals. Even though 45 Madison is managed very well, I enjoyed this complex most because of the attention and care of the leasing office. Both the manager and leasing specialist are friendly and knew me by name. They were always professional and seemed to really care if I was happy with my stay at 45 Madison. Honestly, I viewed them more as friends than the "leasing staff." I recommend anyone that wants to have a clean, cared for facility to take a look at this apartment complex. It's more of a home:).

They cannot keep a mantaince crew. The building I live in looks like a wrecking ball came through. The washing machines and dryers are usually broke, and the tents have to call for repairs and get your money taken. Maybe I live on the wrong side of the complex.
