I have now done the ten week course looking at wine around the world and a second four week course comparing French wine vs the rest of the world. I enjoyed the first one so much I went back for more. The first one was a fantastic long introduction and the second has been well put together around a interesting theme that makes you discuss, compare and think about what you drink. One fo the highlights is Colin's extensive box of smells so you can compare smells like vanilla, leather, peach or pear with the taste in your glass. Both courses have been a great introduction to wine and are suitable for beginners or people with a more knowledge. I for one love French wine, and have been pleasantly surprised by how competitive many of the New Word varieties are both in terms of their price point and their sophistication. And this is one of the great things about this school, it's not fine wines I will never drink again, Colin finds wines from local sources and affordable prices so I have broadened my horizons within my budget and now appreciate a range of wines with confidence. read more

The courses run by the Lancashire Wine School are fantastically good fun, for both newcomers to wine and more knowledgeable drinkers. I attended the 10 week world of wine course and found it an excellent way to learn more about the regional variations in wine produced around the world. I have always been a French wine fan and didn't believe any other kind could compare but I was pleasantly surprised to find many wines from both the New and Old world to be not only comparable but in some instances better! Each night Colin chose a broad selection of the wine produced from a country, all bought from local supermarkets and shops and at reasonable prices. He infected us with his enthusiasm and by the end of each evening all of us were excitedly debating that night's wines and our thoughts on wine in general. I'm thoroughly glad we decided to get along to a Lancashire Wine School course at last, having had it on the to do list for a couple of months. The four week France v New World course was fun, friendly, accessible and enlightening. Coming to it as total novices (never wine tasted at all before), the course was in no way intimidating and you're given all the basic knowledge you need to get started whilst, crucially, those who've been before aren't being held up or going over the same stuff. Colin makes everyone feel very welcome and passes on his extensive knowledge whilst maintaining a very relaxed and friendly environment. We began by taking the 10 week world of wine course and as soon as that was finished, we were lookig for more courses. Through the wine school we have met some wonderful people, drink a much greater variety of wine and have even managed to retain some of the information from the many evenings we spent with Colin. The Lancashrie Wine School have hosted some of the best nights out I have had! I expected glasses of wines and a spitoon. We got a relaxed event, with more than just a taste of wine! Colin is extremely knowledgeable and teaches in an easy to understand manner. I've been on beer and wine events and have always had a really good laugh with the other attendees. We have just finished the 8 week World of Wine course with Colin and it was absolutely brilliant. Colin is so knowlegeable and taught us loads about wine from how it is made, how to taste it and how to store it. We enjoyed the course so much we have booked to go on the beer tasting evening and this weekend we are attending the wine and tapas day can't wait.
