Went to Riverpoint a few nights ago with 2 other friends…read more This was the first time we'd been and were really looking forward to it after reading all the great reviews on various websites. In terms of atmosphere, you'd be hard pressed to find a better restaurant. It's got an excellent location, overlooking the river in the new Wandsworth development in an iconic building. The atmosphere is relaxed, laid back and not at all stuff. The menu is excellent, a really good range of British and European dishes - good portion sizes too. The wine list was extensive and not at all that expensive. The only thing that lets this place down is the service - maybe we just had a bad experience, but it was fairly terrible. First there is a small oriental girl (I'm not sure if she is the maitre'd or just a waitress) who is very aggressive and confrontational. I think we arrived at the restaurant about 10 minutes after our booking time as our friends had problems with their babysitters - we were spoken to very sarcastically and she physically rolled her eyes when we explained why we were slightly late. After ordering we waited over 55 minutes for our food, even though we only ordered main courses and when we enquired about its whereabouts the waiting staff were very confrontational and rude. After much complaining we finally got 20% taken off our bill, which we were grateful for, but the restaurant wasn't even that busy and they didn't offer us any explanation as to why our food was delayed. It seemed to me that there was no allocated waiter/waitress for our table; we counted that we were served by 7 different people. Maybe if they'd have had one staff member serving our table then communication would've been a lot better. In summary, the food and atmosphere are excellent, which is probably why we'll be returning again - but the service and attitude of the staff really does let the place down. If they get this sorted, it'll be a real gem.

Tonight while in London my sister and I chose to have reservations at this Gordon Ramsay location…read more I have to say I am quite pleased!! I also looked up some articles regarding gluten intolerance in the US verses in the UK and today decided to let myself go a bit. There are many people who find they do not have the same reactions. Stay tuned for follow up on this. We were blown away right from hitting the door! The decor is upscale, modern, and chic on the inside then you step straight into some kind of old world oasis in the secret gardens. The hostess and every server we passed as we made our way to the garden smiled genuinely and said hello. Even the chefs as we passed the kitchen! From there the service remained impeccable! Service clearly gains 5 stars! For the appetizer my sister and I shared the tamarind spiced chicken wings. These were cooked very well!! Crispy, yet moist and delicious. The tamarind spice was insanely perfect for any palate. The heat just ever so slightly present in the background. It took 4 wings for my mouth to notice it was getting warm. I only missed a hint of sweetness. For our entree my sister and I agreed we had to have the confit duck and I swear my eyes rolled in the back of my head with EVERY SINGLE BITE! It again was moist, tender, fall off the bone yet with a perfectly crispy skin that I do not understand!! The butter beans with just a hint of mustard and a bed of cooked spinach...I HATE cooked spinach! Well... I thought I did anyway. Every bite was absolutely divine!! For dessert we very much enjoyed the tiramisu. It is slightly different from the US but in every wonderful way. The flavors are more subtle, not over sweet. Obviously food freshness and quality gains 5 stars. Ambiance and cleanliness... well as I mentioned above the decor is spot on! My only critical observation is that there were multiple spider webs on the outside decor and dust! I was seated right next to a spider friend in the plant as well. This would have been very bad for me once upon a time. Others... may not be so okay with that. So ambiance and cleanliness gains 4 stars as every other place was immaculate! I believe that brings this location to 4.5 stars but alas... we don't do that here. 5 Stars! Great job team Ramsay!

This location has seen a number of different concepts, from posh toast to lobsters and now a…read morerestaurant with, what appears to be, high hopes. As of this review the establishment has been open for a little over four weeks. The service reflects this, the staff are charming, helpful and quite knowledgeable but they come across as a little nervous and slightly unsure of themselves at times. I can only imagine they will continue to improve from what is a solid start. The opening cocktails at the bar were decent, but not spectacular. The starter of scallops was a little too salty for my preferences, but otherwise great. Likewise the wild boar ravioli with chocolate flakes was innovative and worked very well. It's often said, somewhat tongue-in-cheek, that a place can be judged on its cheeseboard and toilets. Here they score very well. The cheeseboard had some classics such as mature Comté and a few more obscure offerings that catered for a wide variety of tastes. The cheeseboard looks sure to adapt to local preferences and the waiter eluded to the appearance of mature Gouda which is always a hit. If there was one easy win for them I would suggest really toning down the music. The songs catered for people of a certain age. Being of that age they were nostalgic and enjoyable - but often too loud. Let the food and the people do the talking - not Meredith Brooks. In short this place has a lot of potential, the location has always been great and offers good views over the river, the food is very good, as is the service. If you are comparing this to other nearby options such as the more expansive Marco Polo go to View 94, it's better in every respect. It's currently a little expensive for what they are, but the pricing is probably about right for where they will be.

There is nothing pretentious about this pub at all. The interior is warm and hearty with the restaurant and beer garden wrapped in fairy lights, giving the pub a really genuine aura. The staff are friendly and helpful and I've found over the last few months that this is definitely *the* place to organise the odd birthday knees-up and casual get together. The food is absolutely faultless. The servings are as big as the pub's hearty warmth - and that's big. The specials menu is on constant rotation during the week and you can expect anything from a good old steak 'n' chips to Pollack served on a bed of curried rice. I don't have enough good words to say about The Jolly Gardeners. The casual atmosphere, food, friendly staff and big old vintage leather sofas culminate in its down-to-earth appeal and I highly recommend this pub if you ever happen to be passing along SW18's Garratt Lane.

Overall the service was beyond fantastic with our server being perfectly attentive and charming, providing just enough guidance and explanation to enhance our experience. My companion and I each opted for the prix fixe "journey" dinner, with about 4-5 small plates with accompanying cocktails. I chose the Eastern tinged "Silk Road" and my companion went for the "Castilian." The small plates were beautifully presented and had about two to three bites. My journey featured duck, crisp rolls, perfectly cooked fish, and other tasty tidbits. Even the runner was wonderfully cordial, filled with smiles. I would definitely return, even to just sit at the fun bar and people watch.

Service was dreadfully slow. Some friendly, but could not cope. Starters were average but extremely tiny. A bit of a rip off. Clearly "English" artichokes were used as I have never seen such a disappointment of a vegetable. (See my photo for size). Two bites and done. Mains - burger was probably the only hit on the table. Other dishes to avoid, the stuffed corgettes, waterery tasteless matter, as if they had been frozen. The cote de boeuf, what a disgrace. Asked for medium rare, came bleu, not exactly the most tender piece of meat but this, this was dreadful. Fatty throughout, with tough stuff, the bone had some meat but not enough to take off nor was the meat tender enough. (See photo posted). Pure and simple, the meat was a joke. The manager excuse didn't work for me. After such a disappointment of a meal, we wanted to leave , although we would sit there for a while until service resumed again. Bill please! Let's get out now! Never again.

Check out their current website (http://www.isoladelsole.blogspot.com/ ) to see what they offer because their main website (http://www.isoladelsole.co.uk/ ) doesn't seem to be working yet. Sardinian foods include special types of cured meats, pecorino cheese, crispy breads and some special types of pasta, all of which I'd highly recommend. A lot of their bruschetta are very different from the plain tomatoes and basil, and all of the unique variations are pleasant surprises. Inside they have probably around fifteen tables, although we managed to fit a party of around 13 people around the grand square one they have at the back of the entrance. We indulged in a two course meals, and there were so many starters that several people didn't really want a main meal, however everyone still chowed down since the food was so tempting and smelt delicious. Arriving hideously late, i didn't get a chance to do more than scan the menu, but a spaghetti alla vongole et bottarga (hold the vongole) caught my eye. Bottarga seems to be an ingredient exclusive to this mediterranean island, and for those yet to come across it, is grated dried mullet roe. This makes for an incredibly pungent fishy/salty flavour, of which a little goes a long way. The dish - a pile of spaghetti covered in olive oil, garlic and fresh tomato along with the grated Bottarga - was deliciously clean and satisfying.

QUESTION: Where can you go to get a five-star hotel's afternoon champagne tea for £20?…read more ANSWER: The Wyndham Grand at Chelsea Harbour. It's as simple as that, folks. Because of the Wyndham Grand's out-of-the-way Imperial Wharf location, you, too, could enjoy the epic spread of afternoon tea (with posh finger sandwiches, two homemade warm raisin scones with clotted cream and jam and a spread of individually sized sweet pastries and other treats - too much food for a single person to reasonably consume, I assure you) along with a glass of bubbly at a leisurely pace whilst taking in the view of the harbour and its (billionaires') boats. I'm not entirely sure why the afternoon tea is so cheap, but it is. Tea without champagne is a measly 15 quid. I booked a place for tea online and arrived to a quiet lounge area at 3:00pm, with Sunday brunch winding down in the adjacent restaurant. The table was set, and the polished and besuited server greeted me graciously. The low-seated couches and armchairs were large and cosy, and my companions and I sipped, munched, supped and gluttonously indulged for THREE HOURS. Service wasn't without its faults: the server was a bit nervous for whatever reason, but she was certainly friendly and gracious; my first pot of tea was loose leaf, as one would expect of afternoon tea at a five-star hotel, but my second pot had a teabag chucked in (although said tea in teabag was aromatic and delicious); water and/or tea refills weren't forthcoming, but the server would have fetched these things if asked. Despite these lapses in service (nit-picky though they are), overall, the experience and value for money were outstanding. SUMMARY: Go here if you're a local, you want an indulgent yet inexpensive afternoon tea, you don't want to combat crowds of tourists who may or may not think that the clotted cream belongs in their teacups.* _______________________________________________________ *Although I do know that by posting this review the afternoon tea at the Wyndham Grand may very well become more busy than it was on my first visit, I remain confident that it will maintain its atmosphere of exclusivity due to its less-accessible location.
