Great little place to spend a night or two. Nice rooms, breakfasts, decent location. Only thing is, don't drive here. Absolutely no parking.

A great relaxed vibe, while also having an elevated decor and menu. Staff was super friendly, and informative. The manger was very kind. Service was quick! We enjoyed the chicken thighs and sea bass. The chicken had a super yummy sauce but got a little too much time on the Josper grill. The sea bass was perfection! And if you like a slight sweet cocktail I also really enjoyed the strawberry tonka Fresca. Would 100% go back!

The interior was cozy and comfy, with Christmas decor and squashy velvet chairs. They were busy so service was a bit slow, but very accommodating and professional. My husband's fish and chips was one of the best I have tasted- perfectly light and flaky with a large slice of cod. I had a salad that was beautifully dressed, fresh, and well contrasted. They do allow dogs which meant we had some eye candy in the form of cute pups around us as well. I was super impressed.

Owned by Sir Rocco Forte since 1997, the building has been completely refurbished and now enjoys a worldwide reputation as a luxury hotel. The hotel is a well-loved landmark which has graced Edinburgh's skyline since 1902 when it began its life as a grand railway hotel. Of course the building has undergone many changes since then but even to this day it still holds a certain magic that has luckily been harnessed and maintained. The famous Balmoral hotel is an iconic feature in the Edinburgh city skyline. With its impressive architecture, famous clocktower, and Scottish flag flying patriotically - it's like a siren that makes you want to see what's inside its walls.

The prosecco was delicious too as was the Earl Grey Tea. Yeah I'll be back for more!
Room: Amazing. Service: Pretty good…read more Sound level: Pretty quiet. Price: SUPER REASONABLE. I decided to get away for the weekend and turned to Edinburgh for my adventuring. A few quick clicks on Booking.com made me realize something: I could just a star or two in a hotel rating by just being a mile outside of Old Town. SOLD! The room I booked was the Luxury Double (see: pictures) and the room was named the Ravelston. Second floor room and rear-facing for extra-quiet abilities (aside from the squeaky floor). The Howard has a Butler service and two of the three I was quite happy with; they were friendly, helpful and useful. The room service is incredibly reasonable: you want tea? They bring a fresh pot at no charge. Want to order from their menu? It costs as much as any cafe you could venture to. And, with any room booked it came with breakfast- so there's that. I feel like The Howard won 4-4.25 stars from me. I was happy, comfortable, relaxed and they accommodated quite well to my antisocial tendencies. So, what are they missing? I think the food is a bit under par to be considered 5-star as are their drinks. This place was quite lovely, I would definitely consider booking again.

There is a restaurant in the hotel but there are a LOT of restaurants within walking distance. We had asked for a room with two beds thinking they would be single beds. (Our last experience with hotels in Europe was not a great one. We had a tiny room and a tiny bed,) When we got our room it was bigger than we expected. It had two beds-one was a king and the other a queen. What a nice surprise! There is no air conditioning in most hotels in Europe. With the windows open and a fan I was quite comfortable because the temp was around 60° the three nights we were there. The hubby who likes it much colder said it was bearable. The staff was friendly. The hotel was clean. I don't remember if breakfast is included in the price. There is a buffet breakfast or you can order off the menu. The last morning I ordered the smoked salmon, poached eggs, and sourdough toast off the hot menu. It was delicious. Had to have smoked salmon before I left Scotland...wish I would have ordered it sooner. Yummy. Would have given it 4 stars but with the lack of ac and having to climb several sets of stairs before you get to the elevator I'm giving it 3 stars. In all fairness, on occasion I did use the hotel ramp to get into or leave the hotel but that entailed walking through the rain. It did, however, lead you directly to the elevator.

First of all, the location was perfect for us. It's right on Festival Square. Just look at the view that we had from our window on the 7th floor. The castle view is amazing! If you're a fan of concerts, then you'll also be happy that Usher Hall is right across the street from the hotel. The Edinburgh Farmers Market (every Saturday) is just behind the auditorium on Castle Terrace. There are many great restaurants all along Lothian, Fountainbridge, and everywhere in between as you walk up to Grassmarket. The great service started immediately with Ryan. He checked us in and made sure we had everything we needed. He was a great resource throughout our stay. The lobby was always neat as a pin. There's infused water available. The club is also accessed from this 1st floor area. We chose the Castle Suite which was very comfortable and spacious. The lighting and AC controls are modern and easy to figure out. There were plenty of electrical outlets (adaptable), and all were where we needed them to be. The bed was comfy, and house cleaning was great in getting the room ready in a timely matter on each day. I enjoyed the chocolate that was left for us each day at turn down. It was always a different flavor. The shower pressure and bath amenities were also great. We were also happy that our room included club access. It was great to be able to use their coffee machines throughout the day. I especially loved the fresh orange juice machine. Just insert a couple of whole oranges at the top and it produces a full glass of juice. Loved it! You'll also get access to the breakfast buffet at One Square on the 2nd floor. We did try it out on our last full day there. It had a larger variety of buffet items with table service. I especially liked the stuffed croissants. I think the one I had was filled with rhubarb. All the pastries were fresh daily. You can order an egg any way you like it, but you need to ask for it. It doesn't have the same open kitchen concept like the one in Kraków. I thought the breakfast buffet in Kraków was better. Although, I did get to try some unique Scottish items such as haggis and tattie scones. It was still well-done. I would most definitely stay here again. It made quite an impression on us for its comfortable amenities, good value, and location. Marriott Bonvoy members should be very happy here.

Check in and out was easy. The bed wasn't very comfortable as I prefer a softer mattress. They never changed our sheets during our 8 day stay but did give us fresh towels. We ran out of toilet paper, tissues, hand soap and body wash so the housekeeping staff didn't really pay attention to much more than making the bed and giving new towels in our experience. The bathroom was very cute with the little sheep on the wall and the picture of Calton Hill over the bed. There were 4 elevators that were quite small and there is only 1 set of stairs that lead to the reception area, all other staircases have a fire alarm door at the bottom which we couldn't use. Every day was the same Scottish breakfast, cereal, breads/pastries, fruit. We ate there twice and then went to local coffee shops the rest of the trip instead. This visit…read morelowered my opinion of this chain unfortunately, based on a poor dinner experience that really tarnished our stay. We were here as part of a group tour and the hotel hosted our dinner the first night. The restaurant was severely understaffed. A 3 course dinner took 1.5 hours to deliver. It was far from an extravagant dinner - food quality was below average and portion sizes were small and lacking flavor. We grew more irritated as the wait time became unreasonable. There were other diners (outside of our group) in the restaurant and they also experienced long wait times. This simply isn't acceptable and I can only assume they were just as dissatisfied. My other complaint is in regards to noise control. Rooms do very little to insulate hallway noise so slamming doors and hallway conversations can easily be heard when you're inside the room. That makes for a non-restful stay. Bed and pillow quality is lackluster. Don't expect high grade bedding.
