I can't believe the rating for this school is this low. I am not an easy person to please…read moresometimes, and wouldn't write a fluff review if it wasn't earned. Our son went to LCS from kinder to 6th, and got an EXCELLENT education. Not just that, but a Christ centered education, focused on family and caring for others. The administrative staff in the elementary school was some of the best management I have ever seen. Any issues were addressed quickly, professionally, and always with a smile and understanding these are young kids (and perhaps new parents.) There was some turn over with teachers that retired or moved, and I felt blessed to have had Kevin experience them before they did so. The new teachers are hand picked and committed. We don't have an opinion on the middle school, but the elementary side was everything you could want and hope for. If you are debating where to spend your hard earned money, and are worried about getting the education you expect, trust Mrs Barton and these teachers to shepherd your kid to a relationship with God, and quality education. We were getting ready to say goodbye to our in home nanny and had started to tour a couple of schools that left me....almost depressed? I was not sure I was going to find the right place that was accepting children under the 2 year mark that I felt comfortable with. When you have to return to work and trust another with your baby who is not fully communicating it is serious business. I had no intention to settle for anything that was just OK. When I walked into BSCC, taking in all of the bright rooms, clean space, interactive outdoor area and the ocean view I instantly felt a peace I had been searching for. Could I attend? Haha. I told Ms. Anna I would be right back with my son so they could meet, we could sign the paperwork and enroll immediately. Cut to now- he is almost 3 and I couldn't feel more lucky. Ms Erika and Ms Michelle (affectionally called Tita and Mimi) love my child like their own. My son started out nervous as most children and now he tries to call his teachers on the weekends from his toy phone to hang out. We get compliments on his vocabulary and sharing skills when he is out and he is also really getting down potty training! They have been so patient with him and give me great feedback. He has moved into Ms Dora's class where I'm sure he will continue to flourish. Outside of the regular curriculum the school offers fun activities such as Soccer Shots and Summer Friday water play where my kid always has a blast. They also have thoughtful events for the parents like their recent school wide art show, Father's day donuts with dad/ Mother's day flowers and coffee (complete with photo station). I am so thankful we found this place. I will be an absolute wreck when he graduates.

I regularly see staff cleaning and disinfect toys, the playground is well kept, and the location is secure with a keypad on the door. My daughter loves her teacher Miss Tamika and the director Ana is super helpful. One of my favorite things so far was the art show they hosted showcasing all the childrens art- it was so cute! We only spent a short time here but we are looking forward to the graduation ceremony they will be hosting for the kids going to kindergarten next year. Leaving Bethany School was the most rewarding decision for our family. Many parents are naturally…read moredriven to private schools given the perception of superiority, impression of additional resources as compared to public schools, and the idea that teachers are better trained/educated. However, this is far from the case at Bethany School. Fortunately, we didn't waste too much time there and have successfully moved on to better opportunities for our children. Our kids are now happy, thriving and actually being challenged. As a parent, it is in your best interest to strongly consider the public schools within the Long Beach system. The LBUSD has staff with bachelor's degrees at a minimum, many with master's degrees/other secondary level education and ALL are fully credentialed (not the case at Bethany). In addition, LBUSD focuses on emotional intelligence, empathy, diversity, equity, inclusion and welcomes/accepts kids that learn differently. Bethany School admittedly prefers "obedient," cookie cutter kids due to their "limited resources and staff training." Although, these repeated statements were concerning given the high cost of tuition and continuous (often daily) pleas for donations. Bethany School prides itself on being "Future Focused," however, the curriculum, operations and staff training do not support this statement. For example, the utilization of "Clip Charts" as a daily behavioral management tool is widely known to be outdated and the theorized benefits have been refuted by studies and research (perform a simple Google search on the "Clip Chart Method" for your own assessment). Also, the end of the week "prize boxes" (and other extrinsic motivators) at Bethany are outdated and actually cause more harm than good to children. Prize boxes decrease a child's long-term ability to develop intrinsic motivation, an organic love for learning and the natural desire to be kind and compassionate. I question how Bethany labels such deeply outdated tactics as "Future Focused." In addition, there was an over-emphasis on the recitation of Bible verses and other religious content that created a gap with what the kids should be learning. In fact, many parents needed other educational content to supplement the Bethany School curriculum to ensure that their students would remain on track. Overall, we were thoroughly disappointed by the pipe dream that was sold to us via their website and during many on-campus tours, especially given the amount of tuition that we were paying. This has been an eye-opening experience about the educational system in the city of Long Beach. Private schools in LB, whether religious/Montessori/other are not superior, do not challenge kids, do not welcome kids with learning differences and have an alarming lack of emphasis on emotional intelligence (which we all know should truly be the focus of the future). Choose your children's education wisely. Don't ignore the red flags. Pass on Bethany.

My daughter has an allergy requiring an emergency care plan. Though the school is not a nut free campus, the classroom is. We like the ease of communication through the app, email, and in person. Overall, we feel the cost has yielded good value and experience for our toddler.

There was always a nice respectful balance of lovely Bible quotes and prayers, while respecting that our family was not Christian. The faith-based preschool is really expressed in their love and honoring of the sacredness of childhood. Which I love! I am grateful that LVCC Preschool was my kids' first experience with school! They have activities planned for the kids all the time. They have had the aquarium truck come to the school, have had a dog agility show on the field, and have holiday activities. Their hours are 630am-6pm, which is nice because I start work very early. They also have a MOPS (mothers of preschoolers) group that meets Thursday nights, where we eat food, talk about mom life, and learn about God. This is not just a preschool, its a whole community to support your children and the parents through early childhood, which we all know can be difficult at times. I highly recommend this school!

My youngest came here right when she turned 2 years old because I felt comfortable leaving her with the staff after seeing what a wonderful experience my oldest had here. My youngest was not yet potty trained and I was still worried about her getting constipated or getting a diaper rash but none of that happened at this school. They would provide a daily report with how many times she peed and pooped, how much she ate, how she slept, and her mood. I loved that they regularly checked her diaper and made sure she was eating and happy. All the teachers there are moms and very warm and loving. My youngest wasn't talking much when she first started and now she is talking in full sentences and surprises me with new words often. She is 3 and her fine motor skills have gotten significantly better. She is writing legible letters. They have fun activities like water play days and puppet shows. I'm so happy I found this school. I am leaving my youngest here for TK even though TK is free at my local public school because the class sizes are 1/3 or less the size of public schools so she gets more attention. Plus she is very happy here and looks forward to going to school every day.
