This group--from Tracey Perry's help with design (amazing!) to Mike Heinrich's detailed budget which they stuck to and Bill Schmidt's communication on every detail, it was actually a pleasant experience. I highly recommend this group. In between my two projects with Cape & Islands Kitchens I did another property with a well known, popular Falmouth builder (hint: begins with an "L"). It was a DISASTER. Do not be fooled by the lower initial numbers--you will pay in the end and the quality of work will suffer. I was a bit shocked at first however they are doing a lot more work than I even imagined. Example; my home is antique and well over 100 years old. Reinforcing and leveling the floor took about 2 weeks but when the project was done the floor repair was totally necessary and added so much to the finished result. Also if you are hoping the project will be done in a few weeks, it might, however the bigger the project the more chance for delays. Pros: I was communicating with a team of extremely competent people. Each is a specialist in a narrow field. Greg has an incredible sense of design and really digs into the details. Sonja handles the crew that does the prep, construction and heavy lifting. Mylia coordinates all products to be ordered. Special shout out to Bill who handles anything going on with all the crews. He returns your text or call in a minute or less and remembers every detail of your project. No regrets for me.

Our remodel consisted of a complete gut of the kitchen/dining area and changing it's footprint. Gail and her team helped me choose new cabinets, surfaces, fixtures, appliances and hardware. No detail was too small, and they were very patient with me. Additionally I had some special requirements that needed to be addressed, such as low VOC products/cabinets, working with my busy schedule, etc. All of my concerns were met and addressed with attention to each detail. My kitchen was installed and completed in the time frame originally presented to me despite the fact that I added on some items at some very inconvenient moments (a bathroom). They apologized in writing and offered to remove it and refund us. But they strung us along and did not remove the countertop until we could not longer dispute the charge with our credit card. After the uninstallation they sent an email stating they were issuing a refund but they never did and we could no longer reach them. I do have emails confirming they were to issue the refund so I am pursuing legal action. They are very good at making you think they will take care of things but then they stall and stall and its now obvious I should have never trusted them.

Since 2022 I have used Muto on several different projects at two different homes (mine and my…read moremothers). I hired them knowing I would be overpaying but it was worth it to me to be able to expect professionalism. It is notoriously difficult to hire good contractors on the Outer Cape and with my own work going on I wanted to be able to rely on them in my absence. In my full time job on the west coast I project manage construction sites and have supervised more than 200 home renovations. I am taking my General Contractor-B test later this year. I am telling you these things so that you understand that I am not just some whiny homeowner; I work with contractors and handymen on a daily basis and I am well known and highly respected in my field. The treatment I have received from the unprofessional staff at Muto turned me into a raving lunatic sending all capital, bolded, highlighted emails as I tried to do something, ANYTHING, to get them to respond to me and fix the problem. Their communication is absolutely terrible on all aspects of their work. They did a roof for me in Wellfleet several years ago and failed to complete one portion; it took many, many emails and calls from me to finally get the unfinished portion that they just left with tar paper completed 9 months later. Then they did a partial roof at my mother's house in Truro, and when I called them to complete the second section of roof, they quoted me on a total roof replacement. It is reasonable to say that Dillon there quoting perhaps did not know they had just been hired about 18 months earlier, but what is NOT reasonable is that he couldn't look at the roof (since he was physically there) and be able to see half of it was brand new. I should have stopped hiring them at that point, but again I was hoping that a large general contractor firm would ultimately perform better than hiring small and sometimes unreliable individual contractors. I was wrong. Last summer I hired them to replace an exterior window, an exterior door, and build an outdoor shower. Their first installation of the exterior shower did not follow the plan at all and dangerously included a bathroom casement window (crank open) INSIDE the outdoor shower where naked people could hit their head, not to mention be viewed by anyone inside the bathroom. I was sorry to make them re-do it but I had to make them re-do the outdoor shower since the installation not only had no privacy, but was also dangerous. They were not happy about it but they did it. Again, that was not the original plan and their site supervisor should have been on top of it before the mistake ever happened. The final straw was this summer because the door they installed just last summer has a bent piston and is already corroding. I reached out to them more than a DOZEN times via email and telephone and was finally told to send a photo of the serial number on the door. I did that, and it has been months without a reply despite my repeated inquiries. They finally told me today that the very expensive Anderson door they THEY CHOSE is not suited for a coastal environment and I will just need to keep replacing it periodically. SO WHY DID THEY INSTALL IT IN A COASTAL ENVIRONMENT???? And why did they take months and months to respond? This is a general contractor firm. Employees should respond to emails within 1 business day, 2 at the most, even if all they say is that your message has been received and they will respond as soon as possible They don't even do that; they just ghost you like a teenager if something is wrong. I can't say enough bad things about Muto and I wish I had not given them over $30,000 of my money the past few years.

Although we initially thought our old gas fireplace simply needed servicing, it quickly became apparent that a total replacement was necessary. We visited The Stove Place 2's Harwich Port shop and spoke with Jeff, the owner. Jeff is a plain-spoken, straight shooter - the only kind I want to work with. He advised us on the models most likely to fit our current firebox, and what our installation options might be. Jeff really knows his business, so we were quickly able to choose the best solution for us. The people we worked with for the actual installation - Jeff, Bob, Dave, and Kent - were fantastic! I do not say this lightly, as I am a fairly tough critic. In short, they did what they said they would do when they said they would do it, and they did it well. Pricing was more than fair, and the customer attention was incredible. That's getting harder and harder to say that these days! Bottom line, if you live on Cape Cod and your fireplace (gas insert or otherwise) needs attention, you owe it to yourself to contact The Stove Place 2.
