My nana (grandma) spent her last remaining days here at the Kathy Hospice. I have to say, this place was simply amazing for what it is. It was so "home-like," very intimate, and secluded. The grounds were great for walking and reflection. The staff here was phenomenal--so kind, attentive, and compassionate. The individual rooms were really nice, large (easily accommodated multiple family and friends), and had comfortable furniture. The staff offered us pillows and blankets. They even had mini fridges and an outdoor patio with each room. The weather was nice when we were here so we often utilized every aspect of it. There are many spaces to use here aside from your loved one's room. They have a sun room, a grief/meditation quiet room, a living room, a dining room, patios, porches, and several garden spaces. Get this--the staff even provides brewed coffee, creamer, and sugar as well as fresh baked cookies. It was definitely a life-altering experience to have to watch someone deteriorate over the course of several days. The staff really helped create a sense of understanding and support throughout. It took me a few months to write this review or get back into everyday things like "yelping" after this, but here I am. I wanted to share what a wonderful home-like environment this was and what a unique facility. One powerful thing to note is that the have these faceless angels everywhere from the Willow Tree brand/series. You can pick them up and each individual angel has the name of a lost loved one and/or an inscription... so powerful. My husband was a patient here March 14th till March 25th of this year. From the time he entered to the time he passed he was treated with respect,compassion and dignity. Our entire family is beyond grateful to the angels for everything they did for my husband and our family. End of life is never easy no matter how you try to prepare for it. Kathy Hospice has the best loving angels who truly care. The hospice is peaceful and has a homelike atmosphere. Numerous wildlife outside can be seen from the windows. It is very serene. You and your loved ones are treated like family. I can never thank Kathy Hospice and their Angels enough for everything and words cannot express fully what an amazing place this is. read more

It may seem morbid to write a review for a hospice, but people turn to Yelp for recommendations on all sorts of things. Yelp is helpful, because it's a space for first person insight into an experience... even when the experience isn't necessarily fun. Most of the time, it's all about drinks and food and events, but this time, it's not. My grandpa died this morning. Death is always sad, but my grandpa was pretty old - 96! - and he lived a long and full life. The man was stubborn as all get out; in fact, when he was 89 he had a massive stroke and bounced back. We were singing happy birthday to him at my uncle's on his 90th birthday later that year. He regained control of his speech and his motor skills that late in life, and was able to walk with a cane for awhile, too. So crazy. The man was STUBBORN and I loved that about him. He just wouldn't quit, not for his whole life he wouldn't. But last month it became apparent that he wouldn't be bouncing back from congestive heart failure and a host of other ailments, so my family made the difficult decision to admit him to hospice. I was really nervous about going and visiting. Death is sad and scary and confusing and hospices - by their very nature - are places where people go to die. I was so so nervous and I didn't know what to expect. (Up until this morning I was lucky enough to have lived my life having had all four of my grandparents. I had, unwittingly, outrun the experience of dealing with death in the family until the age of 30. Rare stuff.) The Kathy Hospice is part of the St. Joe's campus in West Band. The staff is kind and patient and thoughtful and attentive and knowledgeable. I don't know how they do it; these folks are basically saints, I think. They see such sick people and sad families all the time, yet they are able to remain patient and gracious and strong. The facilities themselves were clean, bright and open and sort of "home-like." This hospice and the staff were a saving grace for many family members who spent long hours there. Additionally, I also can't recommend the "little blue hospice book," titled "Gone From My Sight" enough. It really helped a bunch of my family members to understand and process the dying experience that my grandpa was going through. RIP, Harold. Love you. read more

I would not recommend this facility to anyone. Yes there were a few nurses who were fantastic and helped my mother, but I feel they shortened her life. She was terminal but walking, eating not close to dying. On a day they called to say she was doing fine, after a visit from the nurse, just 2 hours she stopped answering her phone, was found unconscious, was given new medication that day and they had no room for her to die in the facility because she was transferred to the hospital by ambulance. We promised her she would not die in the hospital. She was in the hospital for 4 days. Every day they said they didn't have room for her. read more

Great Care for a Loved One! We highly recommend Kathy's Hospice. The care they gave my Mother-in-law was stellar. The Doctor at St. Lukes said She had maybe a week left when she was transferred to Kathy's Hospice at Christmas in 2008. The Doctor at Kathy's Hospice took her off of all the meds (except her Insulin) the Doctors had her on, and Five weeks later, she no longer was in heart failure, all the swelling was gone and she was doing so well, they suggested she consider going to a rehab center and transition back to home. Sadly Mom didn't want that. She liked it there so much that she wanted to stay! With Mom at Kathy's Hospice, we did not get that panic feeling about having to stay there constantly, because we knew she was getting such good care. We actually were able to go home at night to get rest, knowing Mom was well cared for. More importantly Mom didn't get a feeling a panic when we would have to leave. Three weeks later, they told Mom She was too healthy to stay there and would need to start considering where she wanted to go for therapy. We will always believe that Mom willed herself to get sick again, so she didn't have to leave Kathy's Hospice. She got sad and came down with pneumonia a few days later. She lived till the end of February 2009. We are positive that the reason we had 10 weeks with Mom, rather than 1 week or less (as the Heart Doctor told us), was because of the care at Kathy's Hospice! Clean facility, Caring and Compassionate staff, not just for the patient, but for the family. Very homey, not a clinical setting. Just can't say enough good things about this place. If you or your loved one has to make a decision on where to go for end of life care, consider Kathy's Hospice! Why am I writing a review now, after all this time. A family member of our best friend needs Hospice care, so I was telling them about Kathy's Hospice and came to look it up again. Noticed there aren't many reviews. But the reviews that are here are all 5 star! When you are going through a very sad time of losing a loved one, the last thing you think of is to go back and leave a review. This facility is very clean, inviting, and loving! When my grandmother arrived she was almost none responsive, with a great staff caring for her she was able to regain strength she started eating again and watching TV also! Special thanks to Debbie Bertran (CNA) and Lisa (CNA) also the Chaplin Carla! When you are in a crisis situation having Loving and Caring people around you until you're able to arrive makes it much easier! Visiting a friends grandfather who was not going to be with us much longer, he looked very comfortable and peaceful. The facility is beautiful and clean. The staff was very attentive, patient and friendly. I only was here for a little less than an hour, but I was able to see what a wonderful place this is. I would be more than okay with my family residing in a place like this if it came to that point. read more
