Pleasant hotel to stay at while at Ocean Isle. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Check in and check out experience went great. Beautiful oceanfront views with a clean pool and pool area. And they have a pool bar! The bartender plus great music and is super friendly. Everywhere is clean. Breakfast was also a good variety. Only downside is the condition of the gazebo furniture. It would be a cheap upgrade that would make the outside aesthetic a lot better. read more

Nice quaint motel on the beach. Beds weren't that comfortable though. The biggest complaint is every room had an adjoining door between rooms which weren't sound proof. You can hear EVERYTHING in the room next door especially when people were having obnoxiously loud sex (every night). No carpeting in the rooms which only exacerbates the loud rooms. Room needs industrial cleaning to get rid of fowl musty, moldy and mothball smell!!! This place is not as nice as we expected. On Sunday the customer service at the lobby desk were just plain rude. I went to ask for air freshener for the room and they refused to give me any and said that they had to do it themselves and would be right up although she never got up off of her seat and never ever ever came to the room, we had to open the door to the balcony just to try and get some fresh air flowing to aid. We did notice housekeeping using a Wet BROOM to clean another unit. No mop anywhere to be seen. Maybe the smell was coming from improperly cleaned floors. Security was a little bit of concern as many exterior lights were out. Scariest place was outside of elevator downstairs. Also the fact that the elevator kept closing on us as we tried to get inside. Elevator acted up the entire time. We loved having the pool open and also the indoor jacuzzi and pool. Fix your own breakfast was provided. Access to beach was perfect. Sadly, this is not a place I would recommend overall due to poor customer service (don't even get me going on how you have to throw out your trash and used towels outside your door. You will receive however many towels they want to give you. Forget replacing garbage bags, coffee, etc.) noisy room (next-door to upstairs water pump that ran like a loud vacuum continuously,) and safety issues (open electrical live wires by pool.) The guests were all nice and mostly understanding of things they disliked about the property. (We didn't discuss it, we just heard conversations every day at breakfast about all of them complaining of issues I described as well as stale food or lack of things like butter.) I would most definitely go back if things were updated and some of the negative people at front desk and housekeeping changed their negative behavior. read more

Well...the most important thing is that this hotel has beach front views and is convenient to everything. It is not fancy by any means, but the room was clean. No deluxe features...but the shower had hot water and the AC worked fine. The towels were abrasive...I'd like to think of them as being exfoliating. They REALLY need to invest in decent sheets and pillows. Overall, we enjoyed our visit. read more

I really enjoy vacationing here. It's not super luxury and it's not perfectly polished, but it perfect for our beach vacation. Two pools, spa, oceanfront rooms, a nice hot breakfast. Do not go by the pictures on their website!!! This "inn" was disgusting. The only good think about it is the proximity to the beach. They really need to do repairs everywhere! Although I slept on top of the bed I must've brought bed bugs back with me. I stayed 1 night /checked out a day early due to my unpleasant stay. This place looks like a stop and go place for people looking to have affairs with escorts. The halls also reek and the luggage carts are very rusted out. I chose this place for a beach front wedding. Never again! The female I spoke to over the phone was nice, but when I arrived for check in - the lady at the counter wasn't very pleasant- I guess she knew I was about to experience a rude awaking. I had my grandmother with me so that is the only reason o stayed 1 night. P.S. They bill you right when you check in - red flag that I ignored - smh. They obviously bill you because they are aware of the disgusting features of this place. Stayed here for 3 nights and it's just barely average. The location is great since it's right on the beach. I feel like the parking is not bad, if the parking around the inn is full they have a lot right across the street that had plenty of room. The front desk was very kind and accommodating. They do offer a decent breakfast but it wasn't anything super special. The pools looked nice and I saw that some of the units are even pet friendly! Now my complaints are that it could really use some good maintenance and cleaning. Breezeways, and doors look to be in poor shape. Our TV was a roku and I couldn't get the cable to work on it. It's not the quietest place either; I could hear people above me and out in the breezeway quite often. The front desk asked me what days I wanted housekeeping and the paper that was given to me said that you would only get housekeeping on the days you requested at the front desk. So at 9am on the first morning here (no housekeeping requested) when housekeeping was practically busting down the door while I was in a dead sleep I was very caught off guard. Lastly, I was excited for the poolside tiki bar that was advertised only to find out it doesn't open until later in the season. Overall it was a safe and clean enough place to sleep while I was here visiting family. I had a 2 queen bed room with an "island view" which is a view of the street. We stayed 3 nights for $140 a night. Would I stay here again? Possibly just for the location if the rate was good. read more

Bottom line: The Islander Inn is a solid 3 star A-OK place to stay in OIB. Not luxury but not a dive, it provides a pretty good place to enjoy a couple days at the beach. A bit weathered but certainly not broken down, with nice views, indoor/outdoor pool and convenient location I'd say The Islander Inn is worth checking out. The Deets: There are a few times when you don't have a large number of people going to Ocean Isle, so a cottage isn't the best way to go. There are very few hotels/motels/inns on OIB. Recently I had the chance to stay at one of the few beachfront accommodations there, The Islander Inn. It is conveniently located near the causeway/pier area, a big plus. Side by side, it looks much like the twin of the property next door (Ocean Isle Inn). Both appear similar in appearance but I'd say Islander Inn appears to have weathered a little bit better. But it does show some signs of time...being oceanfront I'd say that is hard to avoid. Checking in, the office appeared to be a bit chaotic and didn't project a huge amount of positive energy but things went OK regardless and no complaints per se on getting the room by the designated check in time. Parking is a bit of a free-for-all and very cramped in...you better get a coveted spot under the buildings when you can. There are a row of buildings with connecting breezeways that make up the whole inn, going upstairs to access the rooms. The room itself was OK as well, no carpet now but hard floor which is probably better for upkeep. There are two sinks, one outside the bathroom and one inside, a bit convenient. There is a fridge and also a microwave available in the room. I'm pretty OK with the room...the mattress was not all that comfy but beyond that it's not bad if not a bit dated. There is a small do-it-yourself type of breakfast available in a.m. for guests (cannot take it out of the breakfast area though, not a fan of that). The facility has two pool areas one inside and one outside. They are good, a nice area to relax in but the inside pool did get a bit busy with kids as the sun went down. The outside pool has a small "tiki bar" available and an adjacent gazebo before the walk/steps to the beach, all with a nice view. I say for a couple of nights at the beach, Islander Inn can hit the spot as an OK destination. It's not the Ritz but then again do you really need that if you just want to get away at the beach? I say Islander Inn is not bad for what you get. read more

Recently stayed here for five days, it is adequate however needs maintenance and a good cleaning. Parking can be an issue if it is crowded .We did not use the pool because it looked dirty the entire time we were there. AC works hard and keeps the room cool but very noisy. Getting ice was very inconvenient and included a long walk.Shower pressure was weak as was the WiFi. Walls were thin which I always consider a minus. Breakfast was ok, several options. Would be nice to have a guide to the tv but you are on your own. Location on the beach wonderful and nice to have a balcony. Overall if it came down to staying here or not going I would stay here. read more

Not happy with this establishment. The toilet was dirty when we arrived and the phone in the room doesn't work due to lines being cut from work that was done last fall. There is no housekeeping available so we will be cleaning the toilet. read more

We came again this year to enjoy the beautiful Ocean Island Beach. I took away 2 stars for the following reasons: - Front desk staff seemed a little out of sorts, and were not too welcoming. - Wifi did not work at all (we stayed in building 5). - Parking space seems to have dwindled (seems like folks can come and park during the day in order to get access to the beach). Space is tight, so sometimes this can be frustrating. They seem to have space across the street for additional parking - they should mention that when you check in. - The breakfast room is a little more updated, but it definitely needs more seating. It's frustrating not to be able to take food to our room and eat there instead if there aren't seats available. This time, we stayed on the 2nd level facing the sound. We did not like it nearly as much as an oceanfront view room. Plus, oceanfront view rooms have a balcony - which is especially nice for drying wet beach towels, or to gaze at a moonlit beach. I still think this is a great place to stay due to it's proximity to the beach. I'm sticking with my original recommendation - choose 2nd level, oceanfront view. Also, it's more convenient to stay in buildings 1-3 (elevator access is via building 1). read more

We booked the Islander Inn's wedding package three years ago, and it was a great inexpensive and no-frills way to stay on the beach and - duh! - get married. I enthusiastically recommend it! For the wedding, the hotel took care of everything. We literally walked out to the entire scene already set up (chairs and archway set up to overlook ocean) and just said "I do!" It was beautiful and free of worry. The honeymoon suite was large and inviting. Everything was clean, nicely decorated and well-laid out. Having a small dorm fridge in the room was a bonus. The view was the real prize winner, though. Whether you're looking to get married or just for an affordable place to stay on OIB, look no further than the Islander Inn! read more

We recently stayed at this hotel for a wedding down the beach. The bride dropped off gift bags for guests staying at the Islander and by the time we got it the staff had EATEN all of the snacks in the bag. There was nothing left! On top of this the cleaning service walked in to our room with no knock while we were sleeping. Additionally, the water pressure was terrible. It is impossible to wash your hair or feel clean coming out of the shower. The faucet also ran/dripped non stop. We had to run the fan and close the door to drown out the noise. This hotel is sub par. Keep looking for other options! read more

If you have to unexpextedly check out a day early and you arnt deathly ill or there dead, you still are going to get charged for that night regardless. However, the hotel doesn't tell you that upon check in-they bill you right away instead, which should have been a red flag. It isn't in their policy pamphlet that they hand out upon check in. This is a shame, because I would have stayed here again. The room was nice and very spacious. Water pressure was terrible and wifi didn't reach our room. Hopefully the money you get from our unused hotel stay goes toward a stronger router, or better plumbing. read more

It has been many years since we stayed at the Islander Inn. Here's the pros and cons. Pros: they have done a ton of renovations. The rooms are very nice. Just about everything in the room was new, including the AC/heater. It was a cold Jan weekend, so it was nice to have a quiet, we functioning heater. Floors are all new and no carpet, which is very smart for a beach hotel. We had oceanfront, and the balcony was nice and furnished. Room was very clean and found no issues with that. Great breakfast buffet. Would have liked to try the indoor pool, but it's winter and we forgot our suits! Cons: If you enjoy luke warm showers, you'll like this hotel. Granted, I'm the summer luke warm is probably just right, but it was almost borderline cold, not good on a 30+ degree evening. The bed and frame is one thing that has not been replaced. Just sitting on the ocean side of the bed, the squeaks and creaks tells of a "well used" bed. You couldn't even turn over without it squeaking like crazy. And the edge was fairly broken down from people sitting on the edge. Our closet door was completely off its hinges and just propped up against the frame. No big deal, not like I needed a closet door and just propped it in a corner. Parking is a bit weird. This time of year is no problem, but I can bet it would be a nightmare in the summer, especially if you are driving a 3/4 ton truck like I am! Oh, and if you want to lay around and watch the big game on the nice 40"+ TV, be prepared to watch it in analog. No HiDef TV channels that I could find. But they do have WiFi. I have mixed feelings about the Islander Inn. For those who commented about the nasty carpet, I am pleased to say they have ripped it out and replaced it with laminate. The motel is kept very clean, the A/C is cold, the ocean view is lovely, and the mini fridge was colder than others, which is important since we eat leftovers when we're on vacation. Now for the bad: the motel has strict rules on certain things, which made us feel like we were toddlers being monitored by overprotective parents. The breakfast room had several signs posted warning guests not to take food out. The ice machine had a sign telling is not to fill up coolers: that we needed to buy larger quantities of ice at the store. The motel did not have the flexibility with guests one would expect of the hospitality industry. The parking situation was very difficult to manage as well. The mattresses probably needed replaced. They were so soft I woke up with a backache every morning of my 5 night stay. But my main complaint is that the motel had not maintained its vinyl siding, and when high winds came, loose pieces slapped repeatedly against the building and it was so loud I had to use earplugs to sleep. read more

There were many things I loved about this hotel, indoor/outdoor pool, tiny balconies overlooking the beach, quickie breakfast room. This place must have really gone down hill since some of the favorable reviews. To be fair, there are not a lot of options on the island for short term rentals (less than a week), the Islander is in walking distance to everything, ocean front rooms do have a great view of the water, and there is plenty of parking. However, the rooms are seriously outdated, have a stangant musty smell, and are below average for the price. Everything is clean, but not everything works (there were two lights in our room out), the mattresses and pillows are cheap, and shower water pressure is slightly more than a trickle. Upkeep from salt corrosion is poor to the point of many joist brackets on breezeway decks are falling apart (a safety concern), and rust/salt build-up is all over the place--and we were there at the beginning of the season. Breakfast was disappointing, though they did have two waffle makers. All in all, The Islander has the feel of a 20 year old Econo-lodge at a 4-star price. It is right on the water and walking distance to things, but this does not warrant a $200 per night price. read more

Decent hotel directly on the beach. It's average. Nothing WOW about it nor is it a dump. Front desk girls were friendly. They let us check in before 3:00. Balcony, ocean front room with two chairs and a table. Indoor/outdoor pool with a tiki bar outside. Free continental breakfast (nothing big - cereal, yogurt, bagels, toast, etc.) One ice machine. Tiny gym. Beds were comfortable. I like that the room had hard wood floors. Hotel carpets can be super gross. Basic room amenities like a small fridge, microwave, coffee maker, iron, blow dryer. I guess they fixed the problem with the water pressure because it was fine in our room. Overall decent spot for a few days. I'd stay there again. read more

We had an excellent visit. Front desk staff were superb. Location was excellent. We stayed in an ocean front and sound view due to two separate bookings. Beach access was great. Witnessed two weddings which was fun. Overall the rooms were clean, cleaning staff was very pleasant & beds were comfortable. I only got coffee but the free food look good with healthy options. Non-smokers and families beware!!!! This hotel is suppose to be smoke free but it isn't. We had to walk through smoke in every area. People smoked on their balconies which caused smoke to fill ours. We tried to enjoy the ocean front view but couldn't sit on our balcony. I'm allergic to cigarette smoke so my throat closed up and I lost my voice. I reported the smoking issues throughout the resort and management refused to enforce the posted non-smoking rules. There were cigarette buts floating in the pool and roaches in the rooms. This beautiful hotel has went down hill. This is not a family resort. I asked to speak to the manager at checkout and was told he would have to call me, he never called me. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. read more

Be VERY careful booking a hotel here. We booked our room for a wedding 9 months in advance and called to confirm the day of. When we arrived at 1am that night after a 4 hour drive, they told us that we had canceled our reservation that day and the hotel was booked. No apologies or helping us find a new hotel, just said looks like you cancelled today and we are booked. Who knows why they cancelled the room when we called to confirm, but we were stuck finding somewhere to sleep at 1am after a long drive! Not worth the risk! read more

There's an adjacent gravel lot & another across street. Early check in allowed if possible but they always allow use of amenities & parking when you arrive. My family stayed here for 3 nights. It was an OK place. It satisfied our needs, but wasn't my favorite place to be. The room was decent, it looked pretty modern as there was hard wood floor. We weren't able to get an ocean view room because it was so booked up. The pool area and tiki bar was nice, and there was also a gazebo that was fun to cool off in. Every morning the hotel had breakfast which wasn't the greatest. They didn't have a super big selection but the waffles were good. I wouldn't recommend staying here more than 2 nights. read more

Overall a great reasonably priced hotel on the beach. But this hotel suffers from one huge problem--showers here are horrible. The water pressure is practically nonexistent. To make matters even worse though, the hot water is even more elusive. Plan on washing your hands with cold water and taking a lukewarm shower at best. This motel is so out dated. The elevator had missing linoleum, so a doormat was placed over it which only looked worse and it was sunken. The walls of the elevator had all the bottom trim missing so it looked awful. The breakfast is gross; waffles tasted like cardboard. We had three people in the room but they only left enough shampoo and conditioner for one person. My husband had to go get more, and towels. The phone in our room didn't work. None of them did, apparently. He was told the hurricane, which was months ago, knocked them out so they were going to get a new system. We had to use our cell phones to call for more towels, which my husband had to go get. The gasket around our patio door was missing so the wind blew in. Our room had sticky wood-look linoleum. The TV was one of the worst I've ever seen. The picture was so faded, and no way to see what's on. Just keep scrolling. It was just awful. Won't go back. read more

This place is less than mediocre. The rooms are outdated to a point beyond return, the wifi barely worked, and the continental breakfast was SO disappointing. The breakfast room was tiny and it was crowded to the point that we almost had to stand to eat our breakfast. The maid service came to our room at 8:00 am. We had barely gotten out of bed to get ready for the day and they already wanted to clean our room? Bizarre. I guess you get what you pay for. read more
