If I could give 6 stars, I would. We went to the Iron Kettle after seeing a review in the Toronto Star. Chef Ben received a glowing write up and we figured it would make a nice road trip to Point Pelee. The B&B is actually a beautifully restored century home in Comber, there is a little pond on the grounds as well as a pool and hot tub (closed for the season when we were there). Each bedroom has a private bathroom - we ended up getting the original master bedroom. The originally restored floors are fantastic (a strange thing to notice, but truly...they are).
Greeted upon entry and taken up to our room by Ben - very friendly and informative about the area and helpful in pointing out key wineries to visit. After a full day of wine tasting and visiting we returned to the B&B for a 5 course meal with the other patrons. It honestly compared to some of the best restaurants in Toronto. Using local produce and seasonal ingredients - Ben took us through each of the dishes in detail and had a story to go with every one. A savoury Butternut squash soup to start followed by the most amazing Beet salad. Mains were a local Lake Erie Pickerel and Sliced Duck. The desert was a Pumpkin Spice Bread Pudding. Service was personal but extremely professional at the same time. Wine is whatever you bring to the table, with no uncorking fees.
Breakfast was included - homemade jams and jellies by Grandma, an endless choice of fresh local breads and fruits and a hot frittata served whenever we wanted to make an appearance at the table. Delicious!
The hospitality, service and food are all off the charts - I can't recommend it highly enough. We've already started planning the next trip - as we will be sure to return to this B&B and can't wait to see what's on the menu. read more
