Can I bestow more than five stars to Shawn Anderson, "The Home Inspector"? Please? Five stars just isn't enough to convey how thorough, professional, knowledgeable and just genuinely nice Shawn is.
We recently were in the market to purchase a place in Vancouver. The whole process is very new to us. Through Yelp, we were blessed to find the BEST realtor EVER (I will soon write a review for him and his team. Warning: it WILL be lengthy!). Our realtor recommended a few top-notch inspectors to inspect the condo we hoped to purchase. Luck was again on my side, as I chose Shawn to conduct the inspection.
All I can say is, wow. Like our realtor, Shawn explained the process to us in a way we'd understand. I really appreciated how these guys know that we customers don't like surprises! Shawn was prompt (actually, he was early for our appointment! As were we. I recognized him from his photo on his website). He brought some super-duper high-tech equipment with him (my husband was quite envious of the machine that "sees through walls", to detect moisture, and other gadgets). He spent A LOT of time, checking everything his website said he would (I recommend checking out his great website as it really explains what exactly a good home inspector does. It has some helpful links to other services, too). As a bonus, he was amazingly nice with a wry sense of humor that really put us at ease, right away.
Shawn is too modest to toot his own horn, but our realtor took us aside and told me that Shawn has the highest level of certification in this field, and Shawn used to be a builder, so he has hands-on experience in the actual building of homes.
Soon after the actual inspection, we received an email report of the inspection. I cannot imagine ANY report being more thorough. It went over every single aspect of the inspection, and included lots of photos and as a courtesy, it even included maintenance tips for, well, everything (heat filters, fireplace, all appliances, smoke detectors, and more, so much more). What an incredible resource.
Look, buying a home is a big deal. At least, it is for us. It's huge. For us, compounding the complexity of this humongous undertaking is the fact that we are not in Vancouver (we're moving from Seattle). There is so much to deal with and this type of purchase is wrought with emotion, along with the actual physical "stuff" and logistics to deal with. It has given us enormous peace of mind to have trustworthy people in our corner, working for US, who know their stuff, who do what they say they will, who follow up and, bonus, who we can relate to and are genuinely nice. Shawn is that person. He has helped to make this whole process of purchasing property as stress-free and, dare I say it, enjoyable a process as possible. read more
