This beautiful wooded oasis is just up the hill from Fitchburg State University. The home is lovely, with three upstairs rooms available for guests. With our family along, we spent time in two of the rooms. The Harvard is spacious and has a great shower with streams from two sides. What a luxurious experience! The Hudson is also roomy with a serene view of the pool and the back woods (and chicken coop!). It has a jetted tub, so very relaxing, and a shower too. The beds are huge and comfortable, with what must be a pillow-top on the tall firm mattress. These might be the most comfortable rooms we've ever stayed in at a B&B! Breakfast is freshly made with several delicious options from a menu where you make you selections the night before. The eggs are fresh from their own chickens! The hosts Sarah and Ryan served us in a well-lit "Florida Room" with a view of the flower-garden. And we saw a hummingbird flitting among pink and lavender flowers! On the first floor, in addition to the breakfast room, there's a kitchenette with complimentary beer and soft drinks and snack bars, single-serve coffees, and tea bags with a hot and cold water dispenser, (and both milk and cream, thx!). There is a large comfortable sitting room, where we spent part of a pleasant evening with the friendly owners, swapping travel stories. And from there is an enclosed brick pathway to a rec room with a nice billiard table. To the left is the clean outdoor pool, or ahead is the open covered lighted porch with a ceiling fan, which has a step down to the pool. We took a few laps, then walked down and around to the patio with a fire-pit and a large jacuzzi. On an overcast September day, the pool was cool but not chilly, and the jacuzzi was warm with easy-to-adjust powerful jets. The chicken coop is hidden downhill a bit further, and there's no resident rooster so you might hear some cheerful clucking but no raucous crowing. It's just 1.5h by MBTA train from North Station in Boston to this tranquil hideaway. The hosts are charming and hard-working, always making improvements, always ready with friendly conversation. The price is of course a bit more than some local hotels, but not at all expensive, and our envious hotel-staying relatives all came by for a relaxing evening of wine on the porch.

I walked down to the game and it was pretty sketchy. By that I mean similar to Philly. So if you are from around Kensington you won't mind but if you're trying to vacation.... I saw another person reviewed it and said they didn't have their own bathroom. That would suck but it's not my experience. Also they mentioned a cat and I do not see one. I also think I might be the only one here. The breakfast was decent. They had eggs and toast. Muffins. Coffee and fresh OJ. I'm trying to eat less these days so I didn't mind. Front porch looks cut and relaxing. Wish I would've had time to stay out there. All in all I enjoyed my stay for work. Nicer than staying in a hotel. Not sure if I'll stay again.

The rooms are stocked with snacks and there's some local artwork you can purchase if you like. The upstairs suite doesn't have any kind of a kitchen, though there's a mini-fridge and I believe a microwave, so dishes are bussed out as you use them; don't plan on doing any food prep on your own. The hostess brought breakfast to the room (there's not a common dining room like most B&Bs) and pointed out the local ingredients including eggs from her chickens and vegetables from the garden. This is a real working mini-farm and it's fun to stroll the grounds and see what is going on. And it's VERY close to the northeast corner of the campus; we were able to leave our car and walk to his dorm (Van Meter) in about 20 minutes. Like the website says, the grounds are very rich in animals and there's an extremely friendly cat who wouldn't stay out of our room in spite of the management's desire to keep the premises pet-free. Upon our arrival (boyfriend in tow), we were cheerfully greeted, given a tour of the common areas and taken up to our room. The common areas included a living room with flat screen TV and fireplace, sun porch which got tons of sun in the morning and a deck. Our room was tastefully decorated and appointed with a gas remote controlled fireplace (AMAZING!), flat screen TV, deliciously high thread-count sheets, plush towels and attached bath with a pocket door! I have a thing for pocket doors :) We also had a beautiful view of the river in the backyard. Everything seemed brand new, yet the place still had the character of an old New England home. Paula and Rob had delicious breakfasts each morning and were flexible about what time it was served. They also were extremely helpful, even making our new year's dinner reservation for us. Our last night, we were very tired from snowboarding/skiing all day and we wanted to have pizza for dinner. Since none of the places in town delivered, Paula and Rob offered to pick it up for us. Way beyond the call of duty! So if you're visiting the Monadnock region, I HIGHLY recommend staying with Rob & Paula at Little River Bed and Breakfast. But I'm here to talk about smells. They clean the floors with lemon-scented Pine Sol. The downstairs is all hardwood floors so it has a distinct lemon smell in the air. The room was lovely but they washed the blankets, sheets, pillowcases, and towels with a strong scented detergent. As a super smeller, this was really my only complaint. If I hadn't brought my own pillow, I would have had to leave. Luckily I was able to sleep with help from allergy meds and my personal pillow. The smell of the air outside was clean and beautiful. Fresh Connecticut air! If detergent smells don't bother you, this is a great place to stay. I suggest they consider switching to hypoallergenic (free &. clear) detergent for those of us very sensitive noses!

A true, traditional, historic B and B can't be beat, and that is what Timber Post is! She dealt with my questions very helpfully over the phone before arriving, and then the moment I arrived. Vivian has every little beautiful or welcoming detail covered, and the place is immaculately clean. There are intriguing antiques and pictures everywhere to add to the ambiance. The breakfast is sumptuous, but despite all that work, she was kind enough to make me something I preferred. I stayed two nights, at the start and end of my road trip, in two different parts of her lodgings. Both were lovely. It's quiet, for a light sleeper like me, and also important for a woman traveling alone, I felt safe. Vivian even has done the genealogy on the Inn from its early years, and discovered she's descended from the some of the original owners! She said how the community there has been so kind to her. Now that's real sense of place. I highly recommend Timber Post for a true New England Bed and Breakfast experience, in rural Hollis. A delight.

Entirely misadvertised and the woman who runs it is defensive of these small things, making it even…read moreworse. - advertised as having a private bathroom and it does not - breakfast listed as 7:30-9:30am in the booklet that is in the room but it is not, it is at exactly 8am only which we were never notified about - the noise is terrible - I was woken up to people talking downstairs that sounded like they were in our room, and that continued until we left - woman running it just got defensive when trying to address the bathroom and breakfast, just saying "but we've had a lot of people stay without any complaint" - for every person who says something, though, there are a hundred who don't say anything. - we had to "prove" to her that the listing was wrong bc she just tried to say that she didn't realize and blamed it on booking.com, though it is not the fault of booking.com, it is the fault of the business and it is illegal to do this kind of bait and switch - she offered a 10% refund while asking "are you going to write a bad review either way?" - well, I wasn't planning on it, but the fact that she tried to bribe us to not write a review means I sure as heck am now - on top of all of this, the bathroom was out of toilet paper with no more rolls available I suggest avoiding this place unless you want to have no idea what you show up to regardless of what you booked, then want to deal with a defensive woman who won't internalize or listen to the issues. Note: I deleted and reposted this, bc her response illegally posted some personally identifiable information. The response also showed the inability to internalize feedback, and misguided perspective on that feedback. Example: We SHOWED her the booking.com website where it clearly stated private bathroom in multiple places. I've added the photo to show that it said private bathroom, and yet she's insisting that it does not show this. This is how delusional she is.
