On our last night in Nelson, we wanted to get an early meal and rest up before an early international flight. Walking around town previously, we came upon this restaurant. It was pretty packed for a weeknight so we knew it must be good. It's a block away from the main square without other restaurants around it. The aromas emanating from the restaurant was enough to get us to try it and we were not disappointed.
Between my partner and me, we ordered the butter chicken, dhingri prawns, aloo matar (potatoes and peas), and nan. Every dish was delicious. The butter chicken came in a red sauce which was a bit surprising (used to a yellow sauce) but tasty. The prawns were smaller size, shrimp like, but there were plenty enough for two people. The mushrooms in the prawn dish were cooked whole but nicely done. We needed veggies and I'm not a big fan of potatoes (partners choice on this dish), but I ate up all the peas. The sauce and peas were lovely. I did eat a potato and it was nicely cooked. The nan was nicely charred. Crispy in some places but soft and gooey inside. Perfect for mopping up the sauces in all our dishes. Basmati rice is included with all three mains though we hardly touched it because of the delicious nan.
The portions are generous. We could have ordered just two mains but considering our last night in Nelson and the food being so delicious, no regrets here. Wish I had taken some pictures but it was too tempting not to dive right in. Would absolutely eat here again. read more
